Later that day, Corina was in the courtyard with several wizards and witches all milling around wondering what's going on.
"Most of you have decided to cut ties to this world for person reasons, a fresh start without the painful memories of the past, I can understand that. However, what I want to know what you will do once you are in Valdemar, will you travel the Kingdoms? Or will you want to petition the Queen and Prince-Consort for land so that you can continue to hold onto your titles?" Corina inquires
Most of the students began talking with each other wondering about it for the first time now. One brave Hufflepuff asked, "What if we could petition for schooling in a new trade instead of land because some of us never had a title to begin with."
"That's easy one, you can join the collegia not the Mage's Collegium as an unaffiliated students, most of them are Highborn, and I know those sort very well but others are studying to be craftsmen, artificers, even some just want to scholars for the rest of their lives." Corina answers
Upon hearing, this most of the talking stopped and a sense of relief filled the courtyard.
"For the adults that might a little hard…" Corina commented, "None of you can become a Herald, but the Guard is a choice, but due to the fact that most of the adults are old enough to have survived the last war, I doubt that is a very logical choice."
"Most of us can find something even if it's just as simple laborers" one adult spoke up.
Corina nods, "Yes, I even have a plan for one of you, I'm not naming names, but I'm taking one of you directly to the Healers to see if they can make use of some of the knowledge." She then grinned, "If I have to, I will pull some familial strings."
Most of the people in the courtyard began protesting saying that is too much to ask for.
"But I really don't want to since there is still a black cloud hanging above my family's 'good' name." Corina answers
"That's fine we'll make are way somehow and just deal with everything as it comes." The same adult agreed
"Now another thing, why I brought you all here." Corina states
They all turn to look at her paying attention to her words.
"No matter where you go in Valdemar, you will see Heralds, it might be me or Harry, but we will not treat you like we have been here. We will treat you like a villager depending on where you settle." Corina states, looking into the eyes of everyone present. "You will respect the uniform, you will listen to the Herald wearing the uniform, or else I can assure you, you will be up to your necks in very hot water."
"So just like the Aurors treat them as arms of the law, their judgment is law and are impartial to all." An older Ravenclaw spoke.
"Not exactly, The Queen and Council make the Laws and the Heralds dispense the laws and make sure they are obeyed. But you have the general idea, we're only called when the Guard can't handle the day to day normal routine, we don't handle riots, for haul drunken highborn home." Corina answers before she smiled, "And I do not want to be on the receiving end of some of the guards' lectures like one of my brothers were."
"We understand it, Herald; and I'm sure most of us will abide by your laws." Everyone in the courtyard agreed all were ready to go.
Corina started explaining some of the Kingdom laws, but told them if they settled into a village to check with the village headman to learn of village laws.
Harry stumbled into the courtyard, and Corina sprinted to his side.
"All of them are gone." Harry panted as he leaned against Corina for support.
Corina held him close to her "You idiot are to trying to meet the shadow lover without me."
"I wasn't trying to kill myself; I destroyed all the life-anchors." Harry answers, "I just used too much energy that's all. It's not like I was trying to build a Gate."
She slapped him on the shoulder "You are an idiot what if he had demons on his side."
"In the Astral plane? Then I would do the same thing that Vanyel did." Harry replied, "I'll set them on his followers."
Corina just held him all the tighter. "We don't need another demonsbane."
"If you don't stop hugging me that tight, I am going to join the Shadow Lover." Harry gasped out
Corina finally let him go and helped him stand.
"I'm going to sleep for a few hours." Harry states as he turned and stumbled off in the direction of their tents.
Corina nods and watched him leave, before turning back "Well, that's about it, unless you have questions?" She waited a few more seconds "Guess not Dismissed. Remus, stay."
He looked at her nervously as she came over to him.
"Stop being nervous, I want to help you, and I can't do that if you avoid as if I'm a plague carrier." Corina states
"I've told you before there's nothing you can do to help me while you've worked miracles with the others I'm beyond you help"
"I doubt that." Sirius states, "Sorry for staying…"
"Sirius must you always add your two knuts into this."
"Yes, when it comes to you, old friend." Sirius answers, "She helped me, which should tell you something."
"Your problems were all in your head mine aren't" Remus started to growl out.
While the two were having an argument, Corina gently reached out with her Gift and touched Remus' mind.
As she entered his mind, it felt like a ship lost in a storm.
Dasher's presence caught and held her in mental arms, leading strength and anchoring.
Corina fought against the emotional storm, trying to find the core reason of the emotional storm.
After what felt like hours to her, she found the center of the storm it was what appeared to be two figures fighting each other.
Corina pushed between them, and projected calming emotions toward both of them; she reached out with a mental 'hand' and placed it on the wolf's muzzle. Just as she had tamed frighten dogs with her Gift; she calmed the wolf down. She turned to the other figure there and saw that it was a much younger Remus save the fact that he looks like a warrior and not a scholar.
:You two will stop fighting.: Corina states, using mindspeech with both human and animal, fully tranced her animal mindspeech was strong.
:Why should I? HE does not belong here, it's an infection.:
:I'm not and infection ,I'm a gift given to you by mother moon.: the wolf snapped back.
The human tried once more to get at the wolf. :I didn't want you, I didn't choose you:
Corina had enough and gave each combatant a very rude mental slap in the face.
The wolf growl at her. :If you weren't our pup's mate; you would have the same fate.:
:See I told you, he's a beast; he does not belong here.:
:And you do not understand that you are killing your host body, both of you are killing yourselves.: Corina snarled back.
They both look at her. :Then help me get rid of him: they both said at the same time.
:No, You are both sides of the same person, I cannot change the past, I can only help change the future. you will work together as a pack.: Corina replies forcing them to see what they were doing to the outside body.
The wolf saw this and fell down on to his hunches. In addition, the warrior lowered his arms in shame.
:You will work together, you are now one being in one body. If you do not get along, I swear you will feel my Companion's hooves!: Corina states before leaving to the safety of her own mind and snapping her shields up.
As Corina return to the real world, she found Sirius on the ground hold Remus to him.
Sirius looked up at Corina "What did you do to him?"
While she was tranced, Dasher had come up and stood beside her. "I just entered his mind and forced the two sides of himself to work together, he's been fighting something that he didn't want and doesn't have a way to control."
"He never wanted to be a werewolf, he was infected, I guess he wasn't ready for you touch."
"I had no choice; I don't like using my Gift to force people into something." Corina states as she looked into Dasher's sapphire eyes, and felt reassured that he still thought she was a herald.
Remus groaned as he regained consciousness.
Corina watched as she leaned against Dasher's shouldered, her vision was spinning.
Remus' eyes snapped to Corina and he growled at her, "You had no right."
Dasher shook his head. :She had every right, you insolent human.: he snorted
"No, she did not; I didn't ask for her help, sh-"
Sirius slapped Remus across the face. "How can someone so smart be so stupid?"
Corina flicked her hand sideways, and her dagger enters her hand, she slides it across the ground. "Go ahead, slit your throat and kill yourself, and I pray to every higher power there is in this world and in Valdemar that your lamented friends are waiting to kick your ass for all eternity."
Remus stared at the dagger in disgust and picked it up with two fingers "That won't be necessary ." He sighed and stood up; he passed the dagger back to her. "There are better choices than death, I was offered that option before and didn't take it, and I won't now."
Corina took it and put it back into the hidden sheath. "You were killing yourself by fighting something you have no control over, instead of embracing it as a Gift. Having the senses of a wolf, would be a good thing in the long run?"
"You're right it has in the past, it's just the fact that of how I got it that forced this turmoil on me." Remus responds
Corina nods "Do not hate yourself; hate the one who did it. This is kinda sad advice from a Herald, because I'm not supposed to hate anyone."
"Oh I do hate him and I wish him dead just to have this curse lifted." Remus replies
"It's not a curse." Minerva stated coming up behind him at her side was the Firecat Merlin.
"Professor, how is that possible? We were always told it was a curse." Sirius and Remus looked in confusion.
"With all the cursebreakers, we have; you would think they would find a solution, and they haven't therefore it is not a curse." Minerva explains as she looked at Merlin and her brow furrowed in puzzlement.
"What are you thinking professor. " Sirius asked
"Merlin said that the first man-wolf was a God-given gift…" Minerva answers
"Then how was it classified a curse." Remus wondered as well. His face took a look of deep thought as well.
"I'm thinking that some of others turn the Gift and perverted it." Corina suggests, "Were you alive when the first man-wolf was created?"
The fire cat agreed :I knew the man he was one of Arthur's knights.:
"I wasn't really asking you, I was asking Remus." Corina states
"No, I was not that was many years ago." Remus answered
"So, you do not know that someone else pretended to be a decent person to attain this Gift and then used it in a dark way." Corina states
"Won't be the first time someone twisted a gift to help their own needs."
"And we're hardly a perfect world; there are many things that are being discovered as warped and not right in the least." Minerva states
"Yes, just look at the pure-bloods and their attitude."
Corina nods "No matter where you're from the politics are the same."
"All the more reason to end this and get on with our lives." Minerva answers
"Next time, watch troubled students like a hawk watches a field mouse." Corina states, "That way you don't end up fighting another war."
Dasher lay down for Corina to mount because her vision was still spinning.
The stallion trotted off once Corina was safely in the saddle, to a quiet part of the grounds, he laid down again and Corina dismounted and the two just stayed where they were.
