The morning after the attack, Jerven was the center of attention, and none of the students of Hogwarts could read gryphon body language, he was not happy. Most of the students were trying to hug him in thanks for last night.
Corina came into the corridor, with her sword belt on her waist, she wasn't taking any chances, "Excuse me, but could I borrow Jerven for a candlemark or two?"
Most of the students remember her skill with the sword back away from Jerven allowing him to leave with Corina.
"Thank you." Jerven states as he walked beside his friend's mate.
"No problem, I am close to an expert at reading gryphon body language." Corina replies
"I think I liked it betterrr when they fearrred me" Jerven states
Corina laughed, "All I have to do is carrying around my sword."
"Well that may worrrrk forrrrr you but I'm a new animal to sssee." Jerven states
"You aren't an animal." Harry replied walking up behind them. "An animal does not speak with human language."
"I know that but to them I am" Jerven snapped.
"Hagrid has a few chickens for you." Harry comments
Jerven's ear tufts perked up.
"Jerven, after your snack. I have a project for both of us." Harry continues. "You know spells that I don't…"
"I underrrrssstand." Jerven nods before turning and trotting out to the large human's hut.
They found professor McGonagall wandering the hall looking worried and wringing her hands.
Corina tilted her head, "What's wrong, Minerva?"
"I'm still worried about last night the attack was his boldest move to date and the ministry may show up as well."
"They were his lowest ranked minions." Harry replies, "He's feinting, testing your defensives. He knows I'm here."
"Oh no this is worst than I fear we must get the children out of here now." Minerva states
"What's to stop him from sending his followers to get them? He wants them alive to subvert them to his cause." Corina states, "The best you can do is ask the school for a safe place."
Minerva nodded worry clearly written on her face.
"Where is an empty classroom?" Harry asks
She led them to the end of the hall and opened the door for them.
"There is a very powerful node under the school from so many years of students using magic without shielded workrooms." Harry explains, as he begun to set up the framework for a mage's workroom.
Minerva stood in the room shocked at the news "Incredible I didn't know that. But how is that going to help us now?"
"I'm building a mage's workroom, and this classroom is big enough for all the students under fifth year." Harry answers
Minerva just continued to watch Harry to work fascinated at his workings.
Harry connected the shield spell to the node, and let the node power the shielded classroom.
As the shields settled in to place, Minerva suddenly felt disconnected from the room.
Harry released the spell, and looked at Minerva. "As you can see I do not need fancy hand gestures or light shows to get the job done." He then had the decency to look sheepish, "But I did need them when I first began to learn magic."
Minerva chuckled looking at Harry's sheepish grin.
"Only thing I do not like about being here is being disconnected from the Heartstone." Harry states
"A heartstone, do you mean an anchor point?" Minerva asked thinking of a way to remedy that.
"A heartstone is an artificial node of magic. Where true nodes empty out but Heartstones don't." Harry explains, "And before you ask, no, I do not know how to make one."
Minerva's face fell wishing that there was one. "Very well then I'm glad you made this safe room for the students."
"Good thing about tying it into the node, I do not have to have to watch it. But after this, I will have to redo the spell the correct way." Harry states
"Very interesting idea, l hope that you would leave the process here when you leave." McGonagall requested
Corina looked confused "What did you do?"
"I inverted two words of the shield spell." Harry answered
"Isn't that a bit dangerous to do that" Corina states
"No, typically all workrooms keep dangerous magics inside the room, I did the opposite, to keep dangerous magic out." Harry answers
"Very well this is your field of magic so I'll leave you to it."
"I'm already finished, with this one; I did it to give Jerven enough time to eat his snack." Harry answers
Then Minerva left the classroom looking a bit pale at the idea of Jerven's snack.
Jerven trotted down to Hagrid's hut, where the large human was waiting outside. "I believe you have ssssomething for me?" his beak gapped in an eager grin.
Hagrid smiled and led Jerven to the area behind his hut revealing his prize.
"I trrrusst thesssse arrre passsst eating for human dietsss?" Jerven questions, he could scent fear coming from the creatures.
"Yes they are its all for you I hope they're to your liking."
Jerven nods before he leapt at the chickens, who squawked in fear before their lives were ended quickly. After the gryphon had eaten the last chicken, he sat cleaning his talons.
"Was everything to your liking?" Hagrid asked
"Yessss." Jerven answered as his tongue rasped over the middle talon of his paw.
The grounds keeper beamed at praise from the foreign mage.
Jerven stood up and fanned his wings before folding them back to his side. "Forrrrrgive me, but Harrrry needssss me."
"Of course, I shouldn't hold you back." Hagrid replies
Jerven met Harry at their campsite. Where Harry had explained his idea of meshing their power to create a vale.
"I agrrrree, I know the sssspell cassssting that you do not." Jerven agreed, with his raptor vision, he saw Hermione coming down. "But firrrrst, I believe we have a visssitorrr."
Harry fought the urge to roll his eyes.
Hermione just wanted to get away from Ronald Weasley, when she noticed that Jerven and Harry were speaking to each other.
"Ahh Harry, Jervan, good to see you both." As sh flopped against one of the stumps around their camp and gave a frustrated groan.
Harry gave Hermione a look, "Ah, boy troubles."
"Don't even mention boys to me." She growled
"Change of ssssubject, do you know how trrrrance yoursssself?" Jerven asks, he once had to deal with this problem within his own family.
"Yes, Harry showed us how." Hermione answers
"Trrrrance, yoursssself, Harrrry and I arrre going to perrrforrrm magic." Jerven ordered
Very quickly, she entered the trance state as Harry had shown her.
Jerven and Harry meshed their powers, Jerven guiding the spell-work as they both created a vale around their campsite.
After an hour later, the two mages finished setting up the new vale.
Hermione blinked and shook her head of daze that trance state had put her under, she had witnessed something that was unexplainable at least to her, it seemed like both gryphon and Herald had seem to be building a dome-like structure over their campsite. However, to her worldly eyes there was nothing to see.
"What did you two do this spot it feels different now."
"We made a Vale, it's a something the Hawkbrothers use, and we can make it a pleasant temperature in here." Harry answers, "Of course, we did add extra protections, and no one can enter unless they're invited."
"That is amazing; I can't wait to meet those Hawkbrothers there is so much more to learn." Hermione states
"The only one in Haven is Darkwind, the other Clans move around a lot. According to Darkwind; they are in charge of cleansing the land of foul magic." Harry replies.
They saw Hermione begin to calm down once more and just lean back to the stump she was using before.
"Oh and whoever asked about mage-gifted people after magic was 'forgotten' they tended to drifted out of Valdemar or they became healers." Harry states
Hermione looked over at harry "You know some times I hate the fact I'm so easy for you to read."
"Heralds are taught to read body language, you try reading Jerven's body language, and then we'll talk about being easy to read." Harry answers
Hermione just stuck her tongue out at him and threw an acorn at him.
Harry dodged the missile with ease.
Hermione just huff and turned her back to Harry in mock annoyance.
"I had three weapons instructors by the time, I earned my Whites. I'm not going to be hit by an acorn." Harry explains
All harry heard from the witch was a raspberry.
Corina walked up with her arms full of practice swords, her eyes held amusement. "Care to test that statement?"
Hermione heard this and faced the other Herald.
Harry stood up and wondered if this was going to be a Kero-style practice session. "Where did you get the practice swords?"
"Would you believe Professor McGonagall transfigured them from some extra feathers?" Corina questions back, as she just placed the swords in useless disarray.
Hermione looked at the swords, picked one up, and gave a very clumsy swing.
"Drop it." Corina states
And Hermione did as she was told.
Jerven tugged on Hermione's sleeve and motioned with a jerk of his head to move out of the way.
She followed Jerven out to the far side of the field.
Jerven lied down and Hermione looked hesitate. "You can ussse my ssside as a backrrrresssst."
The two watched the Heralds begin to practice; Corina and Harry had both trained in this style when they were good enough for private lessons with Kero. However, Corina switched the lesson on Kero, she disarmed the Weaponsmistress, and she had to get another practice blade.
Hermione's mouth dropped open as Corina disarmed Harry and he had to scramble to get another practice blade. The practice lasted until the warning bell for lunch rang.
