Anonymous Review: I might be wrong, but I'm guessing you're male, which if that's the case, I understand why this would be creepy to you (it would to my brothers). Believe it or not, this is what every single girl has gone through it at some point. In fact, that chapter was based off of an incident that happened to me a month ago. It's so common, every girl on the planet will have about 10 different stories of an accident like this happening in their lifetime. It's VERY embarrassing and annoying. Having Jaylin have an incident like this can be weird for guys to read, but it also gives them an idea of what Jaylin has to go through. She is a girl, and deals with girl issues. She has periods where her tummy and legs hurt like hell, and risks bleeding shit. Just look at it like wetting the bed, only it's blood instead of pee, happens once a month, lasts for a week at the most, and you don't have those muscles around your urethra, so you have no way of stopping it before you get to a toilet (that's why many females try to keep track of when they'll have their periods on a calender. Even that is sometimes not enough, because it might be about three days early or later when they'll start bleeding all over the bed, or all over their pants at work).
Well, time to get back to the Shadow Riders. Now, I believe you're familiar with this one, but I'm going to change a few things, due to keeping cannon, everyone in character, and genre of this fic. So yeah, how this is going to go down will be different from the anime. I hope you like. Review please!
Jaylin and her dance team were practicing their routine for the Dueling Tournament Finals, when the winner of the tournament would go up against top duelists from other countries. They continually practiced on the same routine over and over throughout practice. Jaylin was determined to win the tournament, so she would be the one to go up against other strong duelists from other countries. It was rare that a dancer would also be competing too. On top of that, Jaylin would be the first Slifer Red finalist that was a dancer.
As the class was close to ending, Jaylin couldn't help, but hear some commotion from the other side of the gym door, which led to the hallway. Ignoring it, she and the rest of the team continued practicing until it was time to dress out of their gym clothes.
Right when Jaylin was dressing, Ms. Lindsey called, "Miss Yuki!"
Jaylin turned behind her right, when she placed on her black t-shirt. She replied, "yes?"
"You're needed at Chancellor Shepard's office."
"Crap," Jaylin replied, knowing that something serious happened. She sighed. "Okay. I'll be dressed and out in a minute."
Ms. Lindsey smiled, then nodded, before leaving as the girls turned to Jaylin. They all knew that Jaylin was also protecting the school from Nightshroud, since she was one of the few students with paranormal powers. While the idea did seem awesome, they also knew the job was scary, especially after what they saw with the Dance Off shadow game.
"Do you think it's that Nightshroud guy?" Cindy asked quietly.
"Most likely. Though, I'm hoping it's not," Jaylin admitted honestly.
"I feel ya, girl," Crystal agreed.
"I'd be scared to fight a psycho like that! Personally, I'd like to live," Fonya declared as the girls laughed. Jaylin couldn't help, but laugh with them.
"To be honest, I'd like to live too. Though, I can't prevent something I'm born with, I need to make use of my talent. I wish this was as easy as sleeping in class," Jaylin said, showing a sleepish smile, as the other girls giggled. She sighed, then placed the last shoe on her foot. "Anyways, gotta meet with Chancellor Shepard; make sure everyone's safe here at Duel Academy. Don't want to embarrass Kaiba by the amount of dead students on the island." The girls laughed.
"That's sick, Jaylin!" Rachel smirked as Jaylin winked before leaving out of the Girl's Locker Room.
Jaylin walked down the hallway to Chancellor Shepard's office. As soon as she opened the door, the Chancellor looked up from his paperwork, a sigh of relief overflowing him. Jaylin closed the door behind her, bringing out seriousness on her face.
"I'm sure you are aware of the seven keys used to unlock the three Mythical Beast cards buried under the school?" Chancellor Shepard asked.
"Yes," Jaylin replied.
The Chancellor sighed, covering his face, then continued, "Two of them were stolen."
Jaylin sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose, thinking, 'of course they were.'
"You see, we hide these keys in seven separate locations on the island, specifically to seven of the teachers. With two stolen, we believe that rather someone in the school is a thief or Nightshroud is behind this."
"It could also be both, since Nightshroud has a thing for possessing his victims of students or teachers. I haven't felt anything at all that wasn't in the Abandoned Dorm, so, if Nightshroud is involved in this, it's most likely from a student he possessed that decided going into that dorm was the best idea in history."
"I normally wouldn't do this, but I will tell you the locations of the remaining keys that weren't stolen. I need you and your team to watch over these keys, and find the thief."
"We'll do the best we can."
"Thank you," Chancellor Shepard replied, sighing, while covering his face. "I really hate doing this to you, Jaylin. I know you have these powers, and have been through things like these before, especially from what I heard happened last summer, but I've never liked the idea of placing my students in danger. I feel responsible of your safety."
"I understand that. My previous teachers were actually less lenient than you, but danger has followed me since before Yugi knew me. It follows everyone, in one way or another. We can choose to live with the dangers, or let the dangers kill us."
"I still fear for the worst, but maybe that's just me getting old," Chancellor Shepard admitted, then chuckling sarcastically afterward.
"No, you have every right to fear for the worst. Nightshroud isn't working alone."
"Do you think you have a chance to take him?"
Jaylin paused, then replied, "You ever study on the Cold War?"
Chancellor Shepard rubbed his chin, then replied, "yes, I have."
"Do you know why Russia and America never deliberately attacked each other?"
"Well, wouldn't it have started a nuclear war?"
"During the second Great War, America attacked two of our cities here. During the time, nobody had ever created the nuclear bomb or felt its effects. America's attack was warned, but unexpected of how destructive the weapon was. We surrendered immediately, which officially ended the war. America held great power in their possession, though this power also caused fear within the other said countries. Russia, in response, began creating their own weapons of destruction after the Iron Curtain. This brought fear into the hearts of the Americans, who decided to do the same. Thus, the Cold War. Of course, there's the government political affairs that were a major part of that as well.
"Chancellor, what you're facing here, right now, is a mini Cold War. Two powerhouses of great destruction, trying to avoid the inevitable and up the other. May, as it be, that we're not nuclear bombs, but two Godzillas from the depths of the ocean. If one of us attacks and creates destruction, the other is going to cause just as much massive destruction as a nuclear war.
"Though, compared to the Russians, Tragoedia doesn't have a community of people to protect, nor does he have a heart to do so. He's not going to sit back and enjoy the show forever. He's going to attack."
"Hm... odd comparison, should I put in a soap box for ya?" Chancellor Shepard teased. "When did you become so good with American History? I thought it was one of your worst subjects."
"It started getting interesting, since watching Hetalia, but that's beside the point," Jaylin said.
"Aw 'kay. Stay safe," Chancellor Shepard said, then furrowed his eyebrows. "By the way, did Hetalia really show the Cold War?"
"Yeah, it was the one where America ordered those condoms from Russia. There was also one in muchi form in the Halloween Special."
Chancellor Shepard laughed, replying, "I see. I believe I remember the condom one, though I didn't know it was during the Cold War. I'm gonna have to watch it again sometime. Thank you, though."
"No prob!"
Chancellor Shepard informed Jaylin of who was keeping each key, then she left the office. She gathered her friend to tell them about the stolen keys, and which teachers kept each key. The teachers protecting the keys were Dr. Crowler, Dr. Fondtaine, Professor Banner, Professor Ronaldman, a Mrs. Cordine, a Mr. Barnaparte and Chancellor Shepard himself. The ones, that were stolen, were the ones that Professor Ronaldman and Mrs. Cordine had kept.
"What do you suggest we do?" Alexis asked.
"Honestly, I have no idea. I mean, I suppose each of us could keep the keys, since, whoever the thief is, won't expect students to keep them, and there's seven, or eight of us if you count Atticus," Jaylin replied, rubbing the back of her neck nervously.
"Except, Nightshroud already knows we'd be involved, since he's seen us all together," Zane pointed out.
"We also can't just all gather the keys in one area and all guard them. Not only is it too cliché, but it will make it easier for the thief to just go and steal them from under us, if he gets the chance," Syrus clarified.
"Personally, if I was protecting seven dangerous keys, that can't be destroyed, I would've handed them to the government, or hide them in seven different locations outside of the island, to give Nightshroud a harder time finding them, but what can you do?" Jaylin sighed, crossing her arms, and looking over to her side.
"Jaylin, we can see spirits, right? Maybe we can put our powers to good use," Ronda suggested.
"It could work. Though, the problem is, if Nightshroud is involved in this, he's going to expect me to use my powers to bodyguard each key. Though, it is worth a shot. Though, that means I'm going to have to place a card with a spirit in it with each key," Jaylin said.
"That would be five keys. Do you have five monster cards with spirits in them?" Zane asked.
"Let's see... I have the Kuriboh brothers, so... I suppose that should be enough."
"Including Winged Kuriboh and Jinzo. You could guard seven keys altogether," Carl smirked.
"True. Why not? It's worth a shot," Jaylin shrugged as her and her team left the secluded area of the forest they were meeting at.
Jaylin, having known the location of each key, placed each Kuriboh brother under each key. She trusted the Kuriboh spirits to watch over the keys. If anyone steals one or all of those keys, the thief would be caught. Of course, she didn't walk from one area to another without a particular stranger following her. Every time she went to a different location, a different stranger followed Jaylin without her knowing.
Though, Chazz seemed to have noticed this, being that he was at the courtyard whenever Jaylin walked from one area to the next. His eyebrows furrowed suspiciously, tapping a finger on his chin, which was resting on his hand.
"I wonder if one of them is the thief," Ojama Yellow blurted out aloud. Ever since finding the Ojama cards, him and his brothers have been nothing, but nosy pests to Chazz. On one hand, they irritated Chazz beyond measures, but on the other hand, they did give him updates about what was going on in this school that was not being told to the student body.
"I don't know, and frankly, I don't care," Chazz replied, messing with his iPhone to check his messages.
"Say, we should sneak out at night, and find out what those guys plan on doing," Ojama Green thought deviously as soon as he and the other Ojama siblings showed up.
"You boys are so immature! Why do you always have to go TMZ," Ojama Blue thought snobbly.
"What I don't get is why we have to have a sister that's a nag and a party pooper," Ojama Yellow complained.
"Well, somebody's gotta be the responsible one around here!" Ojama Blue shouted.
"When you Ojama freaks done having your cliché sibling fight, you can do whatever. Nobody can see you anyways, and I'd like to have a moment of peace without people staring at me," Chazz said as he looked around him, catching people staring at him as if he was drunk. "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU LOSERS LOOKING AT!?" Everyone returned back to what they were previously doing.
Ojama Blue sighed, facepalming quietly, while the main trio brothers just laughed, and started flying around to find the scoop of what's going on in the school. Ojama Red just floated next to Ojama Blue, scowling. Scowling was usually Ojama Red's favorite thing to do, while the trio brothers made a muck, and Ojama Blue did her thing.
Jaylin was asleep that night, hoping that she'd be able to catch the thief who's been stealing the keys to unlock the three Mythical Beasts. A part of her wondered if it was Nightshroud, but another part wondered if it was possibly someone on the island too. Who was to say Nightshroud was the only one with his eyes on the prize? Though, it would be hard to waltz onto the island without security catching that person. Even the Admiral was arrested, after being found floating in the waters with his submarine being destroyed; and Jaylin still couldn't figure out how the hell he managed to own a submarine.
Suddenly, all five of the Kuriboh brothers fazed into Jaylin's dorm room, all crying out, "Kuri! Kuri! Kuri!" at the same time. Jaylin moaned, before bolting up, then throwing the covers off of herself. She dashed out of her room just as Carl moaned, waking up and realizing what just happened, aside from the crying Kuribohs.
Jaylin dashed as fast as she could against the windy currents of the dark night. While all the lights were off, aside from a few lamp posts for each campus for students that needed the restroom, Jaylin was able to see where she was going from the stars and moon. She quickly dashed through the forest, following the Kuriboh brothers ahead of her. The forest was pitch black, though Jaylin knew her way though her powers, feeling dark matter all around her to help her see her surroundings.
She eventually came to a creek, where she found the five strangers that followed her. One was a strong, buff and bald male with a scar across his face and right eye, carrying a battle weapon that showed a huge ball at the end with spikes around one side. Another one was a chick with straight brown hair, carrying a whip with one hand with thorns all around it. Another one was a male with slightly longer blond hair, glasses and held small knives or sharp objects with him that seemed throwable. Another one was a small young male with spiked blond hair, carrying a rather large wooden hammer. The leader of this group was older with long gray hair, very built and carried a dagger in each hand. All five of these people seemed to be part of a strong fighting group with extremely dangerous weapons.
What concerned Jaylin wasn't that she saw this group as much as the person with his bottom in the flowing creek, a hand covering a slash wound on his shoulder from some unknown attack. It seemed that Chazz had got himself in a fight with a group of strong warriors.
"You see what happens when you try to rob from us, you little thief?" The woman with the whip asked.
"You stole those keys, and you're calling me a thief!?" Chazz yelled at the top of his lungs as the woman glared, and the man with the slightly long blond hair threw his knife at Chazz. He rolled out of the way before quickly grabbing the small knife, the only weapon he had to defend himself.
"Well, what do ya know? this kid really is a thief!" The man with the slightly long blond hair smirked before, one second being grabbed by his right arm and knocked to the ground on his back, the next second seeing Jaylin above him quickly grabbing two of his throwing knives from his belt, and the third second being stabbed at each arm by them. He screamed at the top of his lungs as the entire group turned to Jaylin.
"You little bitch!" The leader shouted as his group began to charge at Jaylin, starting with the midget of the group.
Meanwhile, Chazz was able to run out of the creek, and stabbed the leader of the group right above his butt. The leader screamed, responding by slashing his blade at Chazz's direction before Chazz ducked, grabbing the wrist, then kneeing it, forcing the hand to bend backwards.
"F***!" The leader screamed before Chazz snatched the dagger from his broken hand with enough time to use it to defend himself from the other oncoming attack from the other dagger. Chazz used this chance to use the throwing knife to stab the leader right through his stomach, stepping out of the way to keep himself from being crushed by the falling built man.
Chazz ran as fast as he could to get to the school before the woman began using her whip to attack Chazz from behind. Though, before the woman could perform her attack, she was immediately stabbed at the back of her shoulder, then flipped onto her back, making the blade sink deeper into her shoulder. She screamed at the top of her lungs.
"Are you trying to kill us!?" The woman screamed in panic.
"No. If I was, you'd be dead right now," Jaylin replied like it was obvious. She kicked the woman to her front, then pulled the blade out as she screamed, once again, in agony. The two other men were already on the ground: the midget blond being knocked uncontious with a huge at the back of his head, and the bald built male in deep pain from the scratch marks across his back from his own weapon. Jaylin whistled in amusement. "Trespassing, attacking a student on campus, stealing school property, and using unauthorized weaponry, you are in deep shit, ladies and gentlemen! Attempted murder on top of that. I have to know how you were able to get pass security." Jaylin smirked, searching through each of the five criminals. When she got to the leader, she found a golden eye patch on his right eye, which suddenly glowed brightly. "And Bingo was his nameo!"
Suddenly, Jaylin was shot almost ten feet from the leader as darkness began to engulf him. His shadow charm glowed bright gold, a third eye appeared on his forehead, and Jaylin could feel the mindless attack. Jaylin shielded herself, then heard screams from this man's comrades.
"What the hell are you doing, Don!" The midget blond male shouted in agony.
"Shut up! I got this, I just..." the leader, Don, replied, placing his right hand on his eye patch. "Co'mon, you stupid piece of shit, work!" His comrades kept screaming in deeper agony. "What's wrong with you!?"
Jaylin glared in confusion. It made sense that this man was able to trespass into school, using the Shadow Charm since dark magic could also include hypnotist, but this man acted like he didn't know how to use his Shadow Charm. Jaylin watched the man sweat in frustration, looking upon his teammates, who were screaming in agony from his uncontrollable powers. Jaylin took a deep breath, then got up.
Don suddenly felt a huge wave of darkness strike him, shielding him in some sort of invisible dome. Suddenly, the screams from his friends stopped, and found Jaylin on the ground, clutching onto her arms, withering in pain. What made Don baffled wasn't that Jaylin wasn't screaming as much as to why she was in such dire pain. It occurred to him that she had defended herself from Don's attack earlier when Don's comrades were affected by his attack. Jaylin had somehow kept this attack from Don's comrades, and took in the pain herself.
Jaylin painted hard, coughing blood from her mouth, tears leaking from her eyes. She opened them, which were now glowing gold, then laid on her side as she noticed that the Shadow Game she started was over. Jaylin knew she'd be in great pain anyways, so it would be an automatic loss for her. She felt surprised that she wasn't knocked unconscious, but knew her father wasn't going to be happy that she challenged someone to a Shadow Game without knowing control.
"Wh-What the hell did you do!?" Don asked almost fearfully.
"I..." Jaylin said hoarsely, coughing out some more blood. "challenged you to a Shadow Game and lost."
"How!? I... Ah... there was no game, rules..."
"There was. The first one to lie on the ground loses," Jaylin explained, staring at the ground. She looked up wearily. "You need to get that Shadow Charm off. Dark magic is a bitch to control. If you don't learn control, you will hurt your friends again. It needs to be used by a dark magic user that has been trained in using powerful magic. At the very least, find a teammate that possesses dark magic."
"You purposely lost to save my mates after the shit you did to them. WHY!?"
"I don't wish for them to suffer. A stab from a blade is only a bee sting compared to what dark magic can bring them. I also didn't want you to kill your own teammates, because then you'd suffer the death penalty for something you couldn't control."
"Well... um... eh... even if you did do the good-hearted-nature shit, how did my attack go away!? I didn't turn it off!"
"No... your attack was strained... love strains the darkness," Jaylin explained plainly as Don stared blankly, even more confused than before. Jaylin smiled. "Who says I have to love my friends?"
Don stared at Jaylin for what seemed to feel like an hour. He then heard two helicopters from a distance, then snatched off his Shadow Charm, tossing it by Jaylin's side. Him and his crew were arrested as some nurses from the helicopter placed Jaylin on a stretcher, and rolled her to the helicopter to fly her to the Duel Academy clinic.
Inside the helicopter was Carl, who sighed and asked, "how many times am I gonna see ya like this?"
"As long as you do see me, I suppose," Jaylin replied.
"Well, good thing I brought extra Get Well cards," Carl teased, giving Jaylin a Get Well card. She opened it, read it, then laughed.
"You're too much!"
"No, I'm your friend with a cell phone and Kaiba's number."
"As I said... though, I still wonder how Don was able to steal that Shadow Charm without being possessed by Nightshroud?"
"Well, my guess is that, if Nightshroud sees his victim is already a thug to begin with, he doesn't have to possess him to get the job done."
"I suppose the fact he couldn't control that damn thing helps to Nightshroud's advantage. Who knows? At least we were able to get the next Shadow Charm. Though, I'm still wondering why Nightshroud would let us take them? It just doesn't make any sense."
