YO! So here's the chappy, enjoy~ (hopefully)
CHAPTER 5:
"So… you're the child of god?" Yukimura simply smiled at the girl. "Aren't we all like children of God… so does that mean I'm the child of God as well."
"It seems you're taking my title quite lightly," he chuckled.
"Was I? No, I think I was just merely stating the facts. But I really am interested in why you have such a name."
"Hmmm… I don't know whether or not you'd feel the same after our match though."
"Maybe," she caressed her chin and stared at the sky. "The sky is watching… I think I'm going to have to beat you Yukimura-san. I have to show it that I'm worth being there for." She turned to him, eyeing him with her finest glare.
"You seem eager, I find it cute." He smiled… AGAIN. She suddenly thought of a regular of Seigaku, but couldn't remember his name.
"Oh… yes of course, only because you're just another step to reaching my ultimate goal."
"Which is?"
"I find it odd how you think you're close to me, enough to make me spill my dream, but I'll still tell you anyway." She raised her racket and pointed it to her opponent, "Tennis Domination."
"Ummm, sorry to disturb, but we really have to start the match now." The referee came down from his seat and informed the players.
"Fine, Hime-sama will offer the service game to Hime-sama's opponent," and she stalked away.
"Do you agree with her terms." The referee asked the blue-haired beauty.
"Of course it's Hime-san's orders after all," and he too went to his position and out a tennis ball and served…
/AFTER A GRUELING TWO HOURS/
"Just give it up Yukimura-san!" she panted. "Hime-sama will never lose. Not to the likes of you and not to anyone." They were both on the edge, both on the verge of fainting.
And she was pissed, pissed as heck. Why wouldn't this guy just fall down and lose or something?
"Dammit! Hime-sama wants ice freaking cream!"
She couldn't see, she couldn't hear, she couldn't feel, she couldn't smell, she couldn't even taste for crying out loud! She relied on pure intuition, putting this whole match in 0.01% chance of winning. If only she could figure a way out of this yips.
Then an idea popped up… 'I don't have anything to lose anyway.' As she hit the ball back to her opponent, she settled in her position then she went a bit to her right and waited.
THUMP
And she finally felt something, she felt the ball hit her stomach and she felt pain. She cringed a bit and opened her eyes. She could finally see things clearly, and then she looked at the scoreboard. Yukimura was leading 5-4. She sighed in relief and picked herself up.
"Guess who's back," she smirked as she saw her opponent gape at her. It' time for payback. "So that's how it feels like to be in the state of yips… now Hime-sama needs to think of something to seal it. Well, there's the Pinnacle of Perfection, maybe Hime-sama should make her own Pinnacle something… yeah Hime-sama likes the sound of that, the Pinnacle of Rui. Okay, that sounded lame, let's just go with the Pinnacle of Perfection then-"
"Um, Atobe-san, we're having a match here." She stared at the referee for a while and went to serve…..
"Game and Match, Atobe Ruiko, 7-5!" She jumped the net and ran to Yukimura, who was currently panting on the court.
She crouched down and wiped the sweat on his face with the towel she got from her pocket. "You did great, Yukimura-san. It's been a really long while since I played an opponent of your caliber. I mean YIPS! It's kind of the first time I experienced it… at least with an opponent that intentionally inflicts it."
He sat up and stared at her. "I guess I lose… It was a nice match," he smiled.
"Yeah it was." She held out her hand and helped him stand up. They walked to the bleachers, with Yukimura's arm slumped on her shoulders for support.
"You've improved brat." Atobe ruffled his little sister's hair until he noticed the blue-haired captain leaning on her for support.
"BUCHOU!"
"Yukimura." One by one the Rikkaidai regulars started piling around their captain.
"You can put me down here, Atobe-san."
"Please call me Ruiko, I do not like being mistaken for my brother, Eck!" She sat beside him and slumped on the bench. "But boy, did you give me a workout!" She covered her eyes with a towel and slept.
"The brat is always so reckless." The elder Atobe put his arms under her knees and on her back and stood to carry her to the infirmary.
"Arn? I think you should come too." Yukimura eyed the monkey king then shifted to the girl he was holding. He thought for a moment. "Alright."
"I was wondering about something, Atobe-san," Yukimura spoke up. Keigo laid his sister on the infirmary bed and sat at the side. "Ruiko… why doesn't she want to lose so badly?" He could clearly remember it, the young girl panting in her place. She couldn't taste, feel, smell, see or hear, yet she didn't care; she was so hell bent on winning. What surprised him the most though was her intuition… during the match, there were moments wherein she knew exactly where the ball would go even with the yips. And then she went crazy and stood on where she knew ball would land. It was crazy and reckless, but it … did the trick. Now he knew that a person with great intuition can seal his greatest weapon.
"Hmmm… no one wants to lose," Keigo answered.
"She's different and you know it. There was something about her desire to win that seems so… desperate and fierce. It's as if losing meant losing the whole world."
"Ore-sama has no right to tell a story that isn't Ore-sama's, but all Ore-sama can say is that Ruiko aims for the top and she will defeat anyone in her way. Ore-sama suggests that you don't do anything that will mislead her." Keigo glared at the bluenette. He averted his gaze and stared at his sister. She looked so peaceful and contented… A little while ago, he was enraged. Why didn't she stop when she had the yips? She could've seriously hurt herself. Tennis for her was no longer fun after that happened… and it was never the same. Now it was just a bunch of bull about winning. Keigo sighed, why couldn't life just stop with this drama. He was a king and he didn't… his sister didn't need any of this. He turned his head and Yukimura was gone.
"Kei-nii…" He stared at his sister, a bit wide-eyed. "Thank you… for not telling Yukimura-san and for staying with me."
He then took her hand in his and squeezed it tightly, "Ore-sama will always be with you."
"I know," and she finally drifted to unconsciousness.
/With Yukimura/
"Yukimura, what happened?" Sanada asked as he stared at his troubled friend.
"Ne Buchou, is Rui-chan asleep."
"Hn. I think it's best if we just head home, she's still resting."
"Wahhh… okay then, I'll just visit her tomorrow!" Akaya lightened up.
Yukimura couldn't stop thinking about it… Ruiko seemed to have an unpleasant past… but what could've have triggered such ardent desire to win. And he knew that at that state she wouldn't be able to use the Pinnacle of Perfection, but her skills seemed to be on par with the said technique.
Then he wondered, what if she was able to open the last door… she'd be a monster. She was talented, but something still seemed off about her. She rarely used her left hand and it was obvious it was her dominant, but she'd always look like protecting that arm was her top priority. Perhaps an injury or maybe just a traumatic experience, but one thing was for sure… Yukimura was interested in Ruiko. "Akaya, what do you know about Ruiko-san?"
"Hmmm… what about nee-chan?… she hates to lose. I guess that's all I'm allowed to say. Gomen Buchou!"
Yukimura raised a brow, Akaya knew? But he didn't? His eye twitched, seemingly annoyed, but recovered as he strayed away from the topic.
The Next Morning…
"Well, this new…"
"Mou coach, you don't have faith on the wittle girly?" she pouted. This was the first time she actually attended the morning practice without being forced and what was weirder was she was the earliest of them all.
"No, but I'm curious as to why."
"Yesterday… I felt so helpless, and it was downright annoying! Yeah, I won the match… but I lost at the same time."
Sakaki raised a brow, actually curious on why.
"I lost because I was afraid." Sakaki wanted to question the girl further, but she was already running away from him. What was she afraid of?
"NOTHING TO FEAR!" she was panting and huffing. She was doing push-ups and she didn't keep count, but she knew she was over a hundred. She kept going, but she was out of breath. She knew she needed to train, she had to get stronger. Her match with Yukimura yesterday was certainly a wake up call. She knew that he would be stronger than Yukimura… but there was also something about the blue-haired captain. He seemed to have more potential than she gave him credit for. He could be stronger if the situation warrants it.
She stood up to walk, but she just wobbled down. She couldn't stop it, but her eyelids forced themselves to close and she fell asleep… again.
"Onee-san!" He shook her as hard as he could, but she slept like a log. He sighed as he took a cupcake from his bag… and he wanted to eat it too, but he had no choice. He moved to open her mouth and he inserted the cupcake. Immediately he heard munching noises.
"Strawberry Akaya? Seriously?" She opened her eyes and stared at the boy with seaweed like hair.
"Stop complaining! I was supposed to eat it anyway," he pouted.
"Really? Oh well, whatcha' doin' here anyway."
"Ugh… I missed my stop and since I was here anyway," he stared at her with his 'infamous' puppy dog eyes.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," she ruffle his hair. "You're here anyway, not like I can do anything to change that."
"Yeah! Let's go to the arcade!"
"it's been awhile since I last beat you."
"NOT TODAY!" He grabbed Ruiko's arm and speedily dragged her to the arcade…
Tekken: Ruiko won
Crane with stuffed toy thingy: Ruiko won.
Motorbike simulation: Ruiko won…
And finally the Dance machine thingy…
"You aren't winning against me this time!" Kirihara was panting as he stared at Ruiko who was breezily following the steps… She wasn't even sweating. "You're a monster."
"Well, you're friends with one, what does that make you?" she smirked. It was so obvious that it was her win. "You're wasting your energy Akaya, it's already written in the stars that no one will beat me in the arcade."
"I'll never admit defeat!" he shouted, determined to really win, though he has never beaten Ruiko in the arcade before, he knew today would be different.
Crowds of people gathered just to watch them and they were awed at how they could still dance since they were doing it since a while ago.
Then an idea popped in his head. He stopped to stare at the crowd, "Isn't that Atobe Keigo?"
Ruiko gasped, her brother would be furious to see her skipping classes just so she could play in an arcade. She frantically ran to the back of the machine to hide.
Akaya smiled and continued dancing. With all the points he was gaining, he was no doubt going to win this.
And it was official…
Dance machine thingy: Akaya won
…Ruiko lost her first arcade game.
