Nami Sick: a Need for a Doctor
The Going Merry was leaving Little Garden onto Alabasta.
"Listen up, everyone! One day I will go to the village of the giants!" Usopp announced.
"Yes. Let's go there together!" Luffy agreed.
The two of them started dancing around.
Nami wasn't in a mood to argue.
"I don't know why, but I am pretty tired," Nami said and turned to the closest person, who was Vivi, "Can you take care of the rest, Vivi?"
Nami handed Vivi the Eternal Post.
"We're finally heading to Alabasta. But on the way to Alabasta, I hope there will be nothing happening to us," Nami said.
"Yes. And I will definitely go back there! Because I am the only one who can free my country," Vivi agreed, "I have to live and return to Alabasta."
"Try to relax Vivi," Sanji said as he step up to them and offered food, "You can always count on me. Just take a good rest and try my food."
"Sanji," Vivi responded.
"Do you want coffee or tea?" Sanji asked.
"That looks good!" Luffy and Usopp drooled.
"Your portion are in the kitchen," Sanji said with frustration.
Luffy and Usopp raced into the kitchen.
"I take that you made it out of the raptors I caught," Gin responded.
"Don't you have dishes to do?" Sanji asked.
"I said I would do the dishes, I didn't say when," Gin responded.
…
Zoro was working out with a giant weight.
"I must get stronger," Zoro said.
"If you keep working out like that, you're going to have stiff and sour muscles when you're done," Moi said.
"Shut up!" Zoro responded, "Only reason you're here is because you turned against Baroque Works."
"No! The reason I'm here is because I promised my partner that I would protect my friend," Moi replied.
…
Suddenly Nami collapsed in exhaustion
"Everyone! Come quick! Something's wrong with Nami!" Vivi yelled.
Everyone rushed out to the lower deck, although Luffy still had his mouth stuff full.
"Whaz wong Vibi?" Luffy tried to ask with his mouth full.
"What's wrong Vivi?" Usopp translated.
"It's Nami! She has a high fever," Vivi responded.
"We should take her to the girl's cabin," Moi said, "Someone's going to have to Navigate though."
"I'll do it," Gin responded.
"Are you sure?" Moi asked.
"Yes!" Gin replied, "Sanji would most likely want to stay by Nami…"
"And I will," Sanji agreed
"Even if Usopp knew how to Navigate, he probably would get scared and lead us off course if a sea king shows up…"
"Hey!" Usopp yelled.
"I agree with Gin on that one," Moi responded.
"Since Zoro was asleep when we got all turned around heading to Whiskey Peak and lack in Navigational skills, he'll most likely ignore the eternal post and used the clouds to guide us…"
"And what's wrong with using the clouds?" Zoro asked.
"And if Luffy knew how to navigate a ship, he wouldn't depend so much on Nami to navigate us," Gin finished.
"He has a point on that one," Luffy said since his mouth was empty.
"But do you know how to Navigate?" Vivi asked, "Especially through the Grand Line."
"I wasn't made commander of one of Krieg's ships just because of my skills," Gin responded, "And I paid close attention to what Crocus told us, and what you said about only trusting the post."
"Okay! We'll leave it too you," Vivi said as she handed Gin the Eternal Post, "As for the rest of us. Let's get Nami inside the cabin."
…
Moi and Zoro worked together to get Nami into the girl's cabin and laid her on her bed.
Vivi placed a cold wet towel on Nami's forehead as she was already blushed and pale from the fever.
"Is Nami going to die?" Sanji cried.
"Maybe it's because of the weather," Vivi said, "One of the toughest obstacles in the Grand Line that everyone has to face is the sickness that is caused by the constant change of weather."
"Or it could be a disease spread by insects and parasites," Moi said, "Don't forget, we were in a prehistoric island. So there are probably insects and parasites we weren't even aware of."
"But why didn't the rest of us get sick?" Usopp asked, "I was with her through most of the time we were there. Am I going to get sick?"
"If you got what Nami has, you would be in her condition right now," Zoro responded.
"It could be just luck of the draw for you," Moi explained.
"But that doesn't mean we shouldn't ignore the possibility that the rest of us could get sick," Zoro said.
"Doesn't anyone on this ship have medical knowledge?" Vivi asked.
Luffy Usopp and Zoro pointed at Nami.
"Seriously?" Moi asked, "How did you last this long without a doctor?"
"We normally don't get sick. The only times we got injured was during battle, but most of the time we were at a place with doctors," Zoro explained.
"And you didn't think of asking one to join you," Moi said.
"Luffy was very persistent on getting a musician," Usopp said.
"And I still am!" Luffy responded.
"But you did ask Crocus to join," Vivi responded, "Didn't he say he was a ship doctor at one time?"
"Yeah, but he turned us down," Luffy replied.
"Good thing too! Someone needs to look after that whale," Usopp agreed.
"Well, if you're sick, just eat some meat and you feel better," Luffy said, "That raptor meat was delicious!"
"Actually, I am going to prepare some heathy food to cure Nami, but she still need medical treatment, which meat doesn't cure," Sanji said, "While we are on board, I always take a special care of Nami's and Vivi's meals to make sure they're fresh and nutritious. I gave what's left to the rest of you."
"What?" Usopp responded.
"It tasted good though," Luffy laughed.
"As long as I am the chef of this ship, you don't have to worry about the basic nutrition," Sanji said, "But without knowing what kind of disease Nami has, I can't make anything that can cure her."
"No, but we can treat the symptoms," Moi responded, "How high is her fever?"
"It's worse! It's at 104 degrees," Vivi responded.
"Can we find a doctor in Alabasta?" Usopp asked.
"Yes, but it'll take a week to get there, and if the fever keeps getting worse, Nami won't make it," Vivi explained.
Luffy, Usopp, Sanji, and Carue for some reason, started panicing over the chances.
"Would you guys calm down and shut up!" Vivi yelled.
"If we just need a doctor, why don't we just go look for one," Zoro said.
"It will mean taking a detour from Alabasta," Moi stated.
"We can't wait any longer," someone said.
Everyone turned their intentions to Nami, who was now awake.
"Nami!" everyone responded as Nami sat up.
"I think you'd better read the newspaper in my desk's drawer," Nami told Vivi.
Vivi opened a drawer of Nami's desk, pulled out a newspaper clipping, and started reading.
…outside…
Gin was keeping an eye on the eternal post.
"Course looks good! As long as we stay on this course, we should be fine," Gin said, "Then again, with Nami being sick, maybe we need to change course."
…inside…
"What is this?" Vivi responded.
"What happened?" Luffy asked.
"Is it about Alabasta?" Sanji asked.
"How could this thing happened? Three-hundred thousand troops have switched sides and joined the rebel's side," Vivi replied, "There used to be six hundred-thousand troops and four-hundred thousand rebellions. This is the totally opposite."
"There will be a civil war on Alabasta soon. I got that newspaper three days ago. Sorry. I didn't show you because there is no way to make our ship go any faster. That's why I hid it. I just didn't want you to worry. Do you understand Luffy?"
"Yes," Luffy replied, which was the truth.
"It's better that I told you because the situation is worse than I thought," Nami finished up.
"But you have to see a doctor," Usopp said.
"I think that thermometer is broken. I just got a cold. I don't need to see a doctor," Nami said as she got up, "Anyway, thanks for worrying about me, but don't change plans. Let's head to Alabasta."
Vivi knew otherwise that Nami was sicker than she claimed, but she was torn between helping her country and saving Nami.
…outside…
Gin was observing the Eternal Post once again.
"You quickly adapted to navigating," Nami said as she came out.
"I always could navigate. I just didn't know how to navigate through the Grand Line until I joined you guys," Gin replied, "Are you sure you're well enough to be out here?"
"I'm f…" Nami stopped cold.
"What's wrong?" Gin asked.
"The weather is changing," Nami responded, "Call everyone out here!"
"Hey guys! Come out here! Nami says the weather is changing!" Gin yelled.
Everyone came out, ready to go.
"Everyone! Change scourse to the south," Nami ordered.
"But the weather is nice," Usopp responded.
"Just do it!" Gin responded.
Luffy touched Nami's forehead and back away as if his hand was burned.
"I think we'd better stop and find you a doctor," Luffy complained.
"Stop talking nonsense! It's just a cold! Why don't you just go to work and stop worrying about me!" Nami ordered.
"Nami, I know that you are worrying about Vivi, but I think you should rest," Sanji yelled.
"I said that I'm fine!" Nami yelled.
"Don't over do it, Nami," Usopp yelled.
"Just leave me alone and get this ship moving!" Nami yelled.
"Gin can navigate this ship for a while. You need to go to bed," Moi said.
"Not you too Moi!" Nami complained.
"They're just worried about you," Gin said, "You need to calm down and rest."
"I'm telling you it's just a cold," Nami said.
"Best way to fight a cold is too rest," Gin said.
"Shut up!" Nami yelled.
Vivi finally came out with her mind made up.
"I would like to ask all of you for a favor. Maybe it's not right to say this since you are kind enough to bring me back to my country, but my country is now in great danger, and I want to go back there as soon as possible," Vivi explained, "I can't waste even one second. So from now on, I would like everyone to head to Alabasta with the fastest speed."
"That's right! I've promised you that we're going to make it," Nami said.
"So, let's start with find a doctor and cure Nami as soon as possible. Then head to Alabasta. When Nami is cured, we can go with the fastest speed, right?"
"That's right! There's nothing that cam make this ship faster than with Nami in good health," Luffy agreed.
"Are you sure? You should worry about your people because you're the princess," Usopp said.
"It's true. That's why we have to cure Nami as soon as we can," Vivi respodned.
"Very good, Vivi," Sanji said, "Your words make me fall in love with you all over again."
"You are brave," Zoro commented.
"That Igaram guy said there were 2-3 islands between Whiskey Peak to Alabasta, and we already we already passed Little Garden. So if we keep following a route to Alabasta, just change course slightly from where the Eternal Post is pointing every now and then, we might find one of the other two islands," Gin said.
"That might work," Moi agreed.
"I'm sorry to put you through this Nami," Vivi appologized, "I think you'd better rest now."
Nami sighed in defeat.
"Sorry Vivi, but I don't think I can go on," Nami appologized.
"Ah! What is that?" Luffy yelled.
They turned to see a huge cyclone.
Like in the F-5 rank huge.
Everyone realized that was the direction they were originally going before Nami stopped them.
Even Vivi was impressed as she held the now passed out Nami.
Thanks to Nami's warning, they dodge the cyclone and headed off to find the next island and to find a doctor.
