a/n: man I'm on a roll today :P That story I was talking about in my last chapter, really did inspire me. It's such a great write, I'm totally envious of the writer :P She is so good! I hope my writing skills boost from this :P Let me know! don't forget to review, even if you're not a member you can still review as a guest or a nickname of some sort.
When Keira got to work, Jamie was already there. Which was surprising, he usually got there late. She guessed that the manager kicked his ass for the last time hard enough.
Putting on her green apron, she walked up to Jamie's register, the old woman he was clerking usually came in with all of her needs to last a good three months before coming back.
So she instantly began packing away her things into her cart before it became overwhelming for Jamie.
Jamie gave her a smile of gratitude after when the old woman made the 'young whipper-snapper' put her groceries into her car.
Keira secretly enjoyed all of the gruff the old lady was giving Jamie, and she took over his register.
When the afternoon rush to get groceries died down into the evening, Keira finally asked Jamie that question that had been stuck on her mind all afternoon.
Leaning against the table of her register, she looked up at Jamie who was sucking on a lolipop.
Well, now seemed the most appropriate time to ask him, but she couldn't just ask him if he knew a Jack Frost, she doesn't know anything about Jamie's relationship with Jack.
If he doesn't know Jack, then she could end up in a difficult situation. She had to word this carefully.
"Have you ever heard of Jack Frost?"
Yeah, that was a good way to word it.
"Fwhad?" Jamie said through his sucker, turning to her with a weird expression. He popped the sucker out of his mouth and smiled, "Jack Frost? Isn't that the guy you blame when there is a snow storm or something?" His teeth where the color of his lolipop.
If Jamie actually knows Jack, perhaps he's just playing the I-don't-know-what-you're-talking-about card. She should just carry on with the conversation and see if she can milk any reaction out of him that would prove he knows Jack Frost.
Keira chuckled lightly, although it was fake, just to keep the conversation light, "yeah, you know the guy who flies around bringing snow ball fights to kids and stuff," she smiled.
"How can he fly? I thought he was a man turned snowman?" Jamie laughed at her, referencing to the 1998 Jack Frost movie that starred Michael Keaton.
Perhaps he didn't know who Jack Frost was, either that or he was playing dumb like Keira thought from the beginning. But if Jamie really didn't know who he was then perhaps she should describe some of his appearance, maybe that would let him know that she knows he exists. And if he does know, then he would instantly know that she knows that he knows that she knows Jack Frost and that she knows he knows Jack Frost too...
That made sense right?
"You know that is a misconception about Jack Frost, he actually looks like a teen," she joked with him. That's a good description when describing him to another teen. It was vague, yet it told a lot of information about Jack.
Jamie laughed and began to tease her, "How do you know that he looks like a teen? He isn't even real," he laughed.
Perhaps, he really didn't know who Jack Frost really was. Well the only way to get a true answer was to ask Jack. Tonight.
Night was in full swing when Keira got off from work an hour later, this time Jamie didn't walk her home as his shift ended a little after hers did. Just to make sure that there weren't any late night costumers.
As she walked home, it began to snow lightly, and instantly she became suspicious. After learning that Jack Frost wasn't just a figment of her imagination, Keira had always become suspicious whenever something involved cold.
From cold weather, to cold objects, to cold food, even to cold floors, but she only found that the teacher had turned on the air conditioning for some crazy reason, or that the cafeteria ladies just didn't care enough to reheat the spaghetti for lunch. Which definitely convinced Keira to pack her lunches from then on.
She looked across the street for any sign of Jack Frost, then she turned to her right and looked into small park of Pine trees. She didn't know why she was looking for Jack, and the only evidence, that Jack could possible be there, was the light snow fall which felt a little different than a usual snow fall.
This snow felt light and fun, and the little flurries tickled her eye lashes as they drifted in the night air.
"Jack?" Keira whispered, a little shaky and nervous that perhaps Jack wasn't real and that she had just made it all up, she reached into her pocket and gripped the note he wrote between her fingers.
She swore that she could feel her fingers turn white as she held onto the note.
"Jack?" she called out again, a little louder, "Are you there?" She felt a chill down her neck and shivered a little.
After a moment of silence, she let her shoulders slump a little, as she gave up and turned to go home. Only to find herself bumping into something that felt cold and tall.
"Waaahhhh!" Keira shouted, startled she began to fall, her arm waved out behind to catch herself only to grip onto cool, strong arms that wrapped around her to break her fall.
Thanks to these things called momentum, and physics, Jack had to use his crook to help him from falling over with Keira, and it resulted in him pulling her closer towards him. Keira looked up to see she was in the crook of his neck, and she could feel his voice vibrate as he chuckled.
It was an enchanting feeling, and it made her want to snuggle closer to Jack, despite the usual cool air that followed Jack, he was actually quiet warm.
"Well, that's one way to say hello," Jack chuckled, and Keira could feel his voice vibrate from the top of her head, through her shoulders, and down her spine.
In response, she just wanted to snuggle deeper into Jack's arms, and was disappointed when she felt them loosen their grip.
"Keira?" Jack asked her, the call of her name and the sudden child left behind from him un-clenching his arms around her broke the spell he had on her. Suddenly she snapped back, stumbling away from him with a blush on her face.
Quickly taking a step back from Jack, she reached an arm back to her neck, "ha, ha, Sorry," she chuckled, "I guess I'm just tired, I had a long day at work," she smiled at Jack, still feeling the burn of her blood in her cheeks.
If Jack noticed the blush on her cheeks, he didn't say anything about it, and just smiled at her in response.
"Yeah, it has been a long day," he said, "come on I'll take you home," he gestured for her to come towards him when his gaze suddenly slipped to the ground.
His brow scrunched up as he picked up a folded piece of paper, the edges of the paper where dulled, and there were some finger smudges on it from lead and dirt.
Keira instantly recognized it, the paper must have slipped from her pocket when she had been startled.
She wanted to reach out to stop Jack from opening it but it was too late, he opened the paper and smiled at seeing his recognizable scribble he wrote earlier that morning.
He quirked an eyebrow at her, and chuckled when he saw the dark blush cross her face as she looked off to the side. Her arm instantly flipped up to the back of her neck again, as if she had a reoccurring itch there.
He chuckled again and said, "If you don't stop that, you'll burn a hole in the back of your neck." handing back the slip of paper.
She wondered if that plummet feeling in her stomach was how Jamie felt, yesterday, at work. She slowly took the paper and put it back in her Jacket pocket.
When she looked back up at Jack, she couldn't look away. His expression was scrutinizing her in a thoughtful way, not in a mean what-is-this-thing way, but more as if he was noticing her. She felt as his eyes burned her nose and eyes into his memory, and for a moment she thought that his blue eyes flipped down to her lips.
Keira shook her head from that thought, and began to step on foot forward with determination, "Okay, well I think it's time for me to go home now," she said as she walked passed Jack and out of the small park of pines.
She heard Jack chuckle behind her, when a weird swooping feeling came from behind her and suddenly Keira was held in Jack's arms once again, only she couldn't find the ground with her feet.
"Ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygooooood!" Keira yelled as she tightened her grip around Jack's shoulders.
Jack had one arm circled around her waist, and the other, clenching his crook, was out in the air like a bird. She had to clench her eyes shut before she completely flipped out being held into the air by one arm.
Jack just laughed and strengthened his grip around her waist to make sure she didn't freak out enough for him to lose his grip.
After a while of yelling ohmygods, her yell began to turn into a laugh, and soon she began to revel in the feel of the wind biting her cheeks and whipping her hair. And soon she found her self peeking behind her eyelids.
She looked down at the roofs of buildings as they passed by, and loved to see the yellow lights coming from windows that lit up the dark. When she could finally see the faded blue of her roof, and she didn't know if she felt relief or disappointment.
When Jack finally put her down on the path leading to her front door, she smiled and said, "you know when a girl offers to walk her home, she actually means that you should walk her home," she chuckled.
"Oh but you never offered," Jack smirked at her, "I suggested to take you home," he ended with a hand on his chest.
She laughed, "Touche," she wiggled her eyebrows and smiled, "meet me in my room," she whispered, as if somebody could have suddenly overheard their conversation. Which was nobody obviously, but Jack just smiled and lifted himself from the ground.
Keira slammed the door shut behind her, and took a deep breath to calm her nerves, instantly she could smell the smoke from her Aunts' cigarettes wafting from the living room, the sound of t.v accompanying it. Keira learned a long time ago that it didn't matter whether she said "I'm home" or not, she would never get a reply.
She went down to the kitchen, and opened the fridge, there wasn't a lot of food, but there was a box of cold left over pizza. So she grabbed three slices, put them on a paper plate, and grabbed the diminishing roll of paper towels.
When Keira dashed up the stairs and into her room, she dumped her backpack into her desk chair, which just fell to the ground with a crunch, and put the plate of pizza onto her desk.
She noticed that her window was still closed so went over to open it only to hear, "You know you should really lock your windows when you leave the house," which gave Keira a light gasp as she wheeled around to find Jack laying back on her bed, "you never know what creeper could get into your room."
He had one leg crossed over the other so his foot was dangling in the air, and was balancing his crook in between his toes, his arms were pillowing his neck.
A cheeky grin broke across his face when he saw her startled and flushed appearance.
a/n: okay, so I kinda wanted to make this chapter as long as possible XP and trust me :O it is the longest chapter I have written, it at about 2,200 words, and I was gonna keep writing what happened after she found Jack on her bed with the cheeky smile!
But then I thought to myself, hey, two chapters in one day, you can stop whenever you want girl XD and then my subconscious peer pressured me into being lazy, as it so often does XD
I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter as well! Don't forget to review! And message me if you want to draw some fanart for my story, or if you just have any questions!
p.s If you do wanna draw some fan art, I will post it onto my Deviant Art page :P
