"This week, we will be focusing on a style of music called punk." Sebastian declared. "Punk first originated in 70s as a way to reject the commercialization that rock music had gained. It focused on anger and simple music. The vocals really weren't even all that important. The style continued into the 80s and 90s and even added some pop elements. Would anyone like to sing something?"
"I would." Emerson volunteered.
I saw him dancing there by the record machine
I knew he must have been about seventeen
The beat was going strong, playing my favorite song
And I could tell it wouldn't be long till he was with me
Yeah me
And I couldn't tell it would be long till he was with me
Yeah with me singing
I love rock and roll
So put another dime in the jukebox baby
I love rock and roll
So come and take your time and dance with me
He smiled so high, I got up and asked for his name
"That don't matter" He said cause it's all the same
Said "Can take you home, where we could be alone?"
Next we were moving on, he was with me
Yeah me
Next we were moving on, he was with me
Yeah with me singing
I love rock and roll
So put another dime in the jukebox baby
I love rock and roll
So come and take your time and dance with me
After he was done, Aria raised her hand.
"Would it be okay if we dressed up for these songs?" She asked.
"I'm going to say that leather is okay, but anything that could be considered underwear is a no." Sebastian stated. "I hope you all have great performances."
After school, Danny went out to the football field to see that Katie was there. It was the day of tryouts and he had to admit that he was a little bit nervous.
"So are you ready for this?" She asked him.
"You know that you're probably going to win the job." He told her.
"I am so sick of everyone treating me differently just because I'm a girl." Katie replied. "You think it's easy being some sort of role model, not because of how well I play, but because I'm a girl. My latest profile didn't even mention that I threw for 3000 yards and 23 touchdowns until the third paragraph or that I was second in both stats. It's amazing that no one has been able to integrate the sport after almost a hundred years. So I don't want to hear you bitch about anything. You'll probably be able to get a scholarship. You may even play in the NFL. The closest I'll get if I'm a cheerleader."
She then began to sing while she went through her tryout. She certainly understood the anger of punk music. She also understood the anger of the defenders weren't even trying to tackle her. She wanted to be able to prove herself, but couldn't if people wouldn't even look at her as a serious threat. She wouldn't mind being knocked on her ass if it meant that she was being treated like every other quarterback.
I heard you crying loud, all the way across town
You've been searching for that someone,
And it's me out on the prowl
As you sit around feeling sorry for yourself
Well, don't get lonely now and dry your whining eyes
I'm just roaming for the moment
Sleazing my back yard so don't get so uptight
You been thinking about ditching me
No time to search the world around
Cause you know where I'll be found
When I come around
I heard it all before so don't knock down my door
I'm a loser and a user so I don't need no accuser
To try and slag me down because I know you're right
So go do what you like Make sure you do it wise
You may find out that your self-doubt means nothing was ever there
You can't go forcing something if it's just not right
No time to search the world around
Cause you know where I'll be found
When I come around, when I come around
When I come around, when I come around
To end her tryout, she evaded the defenders to scramble for a first down before being forced out of bounds. It was about the only contact that she would get from anyone.
Danny then went out for his tryout. He tried to show his work with his legs, but he showed a much worse awareness and threw an interception on his first touchdown attempt. He wasn't even sure if he was in it because he didn't even believe that he would get the spot. He figured that maybe if he was up against another guy, he would have a chance but there was no way that he was going to beat a girl.
Aria meanwhile was going to be meeting Jamie at her house. She was going to be singing a solo at Regionals and wanted feedback. She also was finally going to get a chance to meet Jamie's mom. She was a bit surprised to see Jamie's friend who introduced them, who she couldn't remember the name of.
"What are you doing here?" Ashley asked.
"Jamie invited me." Aria answered as she waited for Jamie. "What are you doing here?"
"I invited her too." Jamie replied as she entered the room. She had straightened her hair and was wearing a lime green sundress. "I wanted both my girlfriend and my best friend here to hear me sing my song for Regionals."
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Ashley questioned. "I mean, no offense, but she does go to another school."
"But Aria doesn't go to one of the schools we'll be competing against." Jamie pointed out before she started to sing. Aria didn't recognize the song but she thought that Jamie sounded great. She always loved to hear her sing.
"That was great." Aria gushed as she walked over to Jamie and kissed her. "I think that you're going to win."
"Ashley, I think you can go now." Jamie replied as the girl kissed her neck.
The two of them got on top of the couch and took turns taking each other's clothes off. Once they were done, they were both under a blanket.
"My mom's going to be home." Jamie declared. "We should probably get dressed. Do you want to borrow something or would you prefer to be in your uniform. It's up to you."
"What do you think that your mom would prefer?" Aria inquired as she started to put her underwear on.
"Well I really like the schoolgirl look." Jamie admitted.
A few minutes later, Ms. Martin arrived at the house.
"So this is your girlfriend?" Her mother asked. Aria nodded.
"It's nice meet you, Ma'am." Aria declared. "I'm Aria."
"Please call me Alexis." The woman replied. "So where do you go to school?"
"I go to Dalton Academy." Aria explained. "It's a private school that just started accepting girls this year."
The following morning, Aria was dressed up in letter as she prepared to let her punk side come out. She happened to think that the Runaways were forgotten when people discussed punk and thought that the first all-female rock band that mattered deserved more credit.
Can't stay at home, can't stay at school
Old folks say you poor little fool
Down the street, I'm the girl next door
I'm the fox you've been waiting for
Hello Daddy, hello Mom
I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb
Hello world, I'm your wild girl
I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb
Stone age love and strange sounds too
Come on baby let me get to you
Bad nights causing teenage blues
Get down ladies you got nothing to lose
Hello Daddy, hello Mom
I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb
Hello world, I'm your wild girl
I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb
Hello Daddy, hello Mom
I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb
Hello world, I'm your wild girl
I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb
Hey street boy, you want some style
Your dead end dreams don't make you smile
I'll give you something to live for
Have ya and grab ya till you're sore
Hello Daddy, hello Mom
I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb
Hello world, I'm your wild girl
I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb
Cherry bomb, cherry bomb
Cherry bomb, cherry bomb
Cherry bomb
She did wish that she could have performed it the way that it was most famously performed. She thought about doing a non-school version of the performance later.
After rehearsal, Danny went to see the announcements of the team. Sure enough, it listed Katie as the first-string QB. He couldn't help but wonder if he should seriously consider Milla's idea of switching positions.
He also wondered if he really had a future playing football. He heard that there would be a team in London soon and wondered if maybe he would get a chance to go there.
London calling to the faraway towns, now war is declared and battle come down
London calling to the underworld, come out of the cupboard, you boys and girls
London calling now don't look to us, phony Beatlemania has bitten the dust
London calling see we aint got no swing except for the ring of that truncheon thing
The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Meltdown expected, the wheat is growing thin
Engines stop running but I have no fear
Cause London is drowning and I live by the river
London calling to the imitation zone, forget it brother you can go at it alone
London calling to the zombies of death, quit holding out and draw another breath
London calling and I don't wanna shout but while we were talking I saw you running out
London calling see we aint got no high except for that one with the yellowy eyes
The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Meltdown expected, the wheat is growing thin
Engines stop running but I have no fear
Cause London is drowning and I live by the river
He then went to see the coach, telling him that he'd like to try out again as a runningback.
Katie on the other hand, was thrilled to see that she had earned the job, even though she knew that she probably did have some bias towards her. She realized that she would just have to show everyone that she was more than just a girl that played football, but a football player. If she wanted to be taken seriously, she would have to prove that she was worthy of being taken seriously and maybe winning a state championship would help.
The following afternoon, Milla was singing one of the biggest punk hits of the 80s.
Call on me, oh call up, baby, call on me, oh call
Call on me, oh call up, darling
I know who you are, come up off your calling chart
I know where you're coming from
Call me!(Call me!)On the line
Call me, call me any anytime
Call me! (Call me!) I'll arrive
You can call me any day or night, call me
Cover me with kisses, baby, cover me with love
Roll me in designer sheets I'll never get enough
Emotions come, I don't know why
Cover of love's alibi
Ooh, he speaks the languages of love
Ooh, amore, chiamami, chiamami
Ooh, appelle moi, mon cheri, appelle moi
Anytime, anyplace, anywhere, anyway
Anytime, anyplace, anywhere, any day
Call me!(Call me!) My love
Call me, call me any anytime
Call me (Call me!) For a ride
Call me, Call me for some overtime
Call me! (Call me!) My love
Call me, Call me in a sweet design
Call me! (Call me!)
Call me for your lover's, lover's alibi
As she finished, Sebastian realized that he needed to get the group ready for Nationals. They had never made it that far and he wasn't entirely sure what to do.
So Jamie and Ashley make another appearance.. Now that this story is caught up, Can't Stop Singing will resume. The songs are "I Love Rock and Roll" by Joan Jett, "When I Come Around" by Green Day, "Cherry Bomb" by The Runaways, "London Calling" by The Clash and "Call Me" by Blondie. Please don't forget to review.
