One sunny day has come and it never fail Merida to not gain self-control. Anna has a serious risk of failing this year and decided to go to the library for a study session with Elsa. She could not take bullying her brain on a fine weather like this, so she went out, thinking of sneaking a bit in the forbidden forest. Careful not to attract the attention of their current gamekeeper, Robert, she tiptoed away.
If Hogwarts had no limitations about their pets, she would've taken Angus with her. The forest may not have enough space for the horse to race, at least she wouldn't have difficulty of having to pass some thick trunks in the forest.
But no one, even the Headmaster, could stop her from bringing her beloved bow and arrows. Luckily, the prefects and Heads Boy and Girl hadn't notice the long, thick package she had taken to the carriage with her, and she had time to hide it in a trunk where even Robert Spikestand couldn't spot it.
She traced some targets, careful not to hit the unicorns, hiding from the fierce-looking centaurs, and had hit a disgusting and creepy acromantula. Her next shot, marking a small crater of a nearby trunk, had miserably failed. To her fear, a creature was hit by the arrow, she was sure of it, since it cried loudly after she missed the spot.
Ignoring the loud cry, she ran towards the source. The moment she got near it was when she noticed another voice, apart from the creature. It was —
"Hiccup?"
Hiccup, who just managed to calm a what looked like a big, black reptile, looked up in surprise.
"Merida!" he greeted, although a bit nervous. The reptile creature looked at her with eyes wide alert.
Merida didn't know how long she stayed rooted to that spot.
"Yeh' git!" she finally said when she found her voice, "Yeh' — yeh' bought a — a giant black lizard!"
The creature let out a howl, and would've jumped right at her if Hiccup didn't try to stop it.
She screamed, "An' it's got wings!"
"No, Merida." he said, "And Toothless, calm down! Anyway, he's a dragon, not a lizard."
"Did yeh jus' call him...Toothless?"
"Yeah." he said slowly. "What's wrong with that?"
"Yeh' filthy — scumbag — cheating —!" she said, while throwing rocks at him. Toothless let out a fire and Merida narrowly missed it.
"Merida — wait — no, Toothless, stop!"
The wall of dust made by Toothless' attack blinded him for a while, and when it finally cleared out that he realized his worst fear — Merida was running back.
"Oh, great. Now look what you've done." he addressed the dragon.
Merida had a mixed emotion at the moment — fear (she almost died with that blast), anger, irritation. How did that fishbone managed to bring his pet and hid it in the forest while her heart ached missing her horse? How dare he enjoy himself with his pet while she only got her bow and arrows to accompany her?
She should be thankful to her father for the Hunter's instinct. Without that, she would've died as she narrowly avoided the dragon who seemed to run after her.
"Hey, Merida, I was hoping to have a little — "
But whatever Hiccup said, he didn't manage to finish it since Merida had shot an arrow.
"Get awaey from me, yeh' beast!"
"No — wait — calm down — no — Toothless!"
She was so focused on the dragon's head that she didn't notice its tail coming towards her. She had managed to feel a bit of a sting on her cheeks and felt her feet leaving the ground. Everything went fast forward and blurred.
Then it was black.
Maybe it was the itchy grass that woke her up, or the loudest roar she ever heard. When her vision cleared, she saw the most horrible sight she ever laid her eyes upon on.
Just in the middle of the clearing, she saw what looked like giants, but something is off. They're not hairy, and they're naked, with no sex organs at all! And in the middle was the most fearful thing even compared to the giants; it was 50ft tall, skinless, grumpy-looking, and has huge teeth. It's skinless body was steaming, and it took a while for Merida to remember what exactly they are.
Titans...
Hiccup had covered her mouth just in time, or she would've given away their hiding place. He, too, looked ashen-faced, and beside him, Toothless was looking both alert and scared.
He made a silent gesture and led her on the back of the dragon. She must've fallen farther from Hogwarts, since it took a while longer for them to arrive at the castle.
Hiccup was no different than her. He, too, could not bring himself to speak out of shock, and were flying silently back.
.
She immediately went back to the bathroom and threw up. She had to tell someone, maybe Anna and Elsa, but she couldn't even say a word as her breakfast continued to exit from her stomach.
After a while, it finally stopped. Still weak and ashen, she stood up, but stopped in her tracks.
"—can't believe he made us work nonstop. Look at me, I'm all drenched with sweat!" said a girl with a high-pitched voice.
"It was a good practice, though. I think we might have a chance to claim the Quidditch cup if Stormborn continued to excuse herself. Honestly, we're fine without her." the second one said.
"She's got the beauty. But other than that, she's got no talent. She couldn't even hit the target with that bludger!" replied the first girl.
"Bah! She just wanted to be noticed, that attention-seeking bitch." the third one said.
Merida had completely forgotten about the titans. The color had returned rapidly on her face, making it a shade of magenta. She was gripping the doorknob really hard.
"I hope she injures herself when the match comes. Parker's way better than her." said the third girl.
"It would've been nice if she breaks her leg." said the first one.
"Or maybe, her hair'll gone berserk." said the second one, "Oh, madam Pomfrey! I cannot play with such shaggy appearance. My poor hairs have got a fracture or something!"
The three girls giggled horribly, making the hairs of Merida's back neck stand. She couldn't take it longer, and she opened the door. She was about to tell the girls off when she saw, to her ultimate horror, that Elsa was listening at the farthest stall, her back on the wall, her eyes wide and on the verge of tears.
But another thing distracted her. It was sunny outside, but thick frosts were forming at the windows, and she saw a faint, thin shadow flying away.
Dinner came and Elsa was unusually cheerful. She was unusually very talkative and had eaten more than usual. Her voice was a bit high-pitched than normal, and she was laughing at little things.
Anna thought maybe it was the aftermath of their heavy study sessions, but Merida knew better. She thought Elsa didn't notice her at the bathroom with her, and didn't bother to remind her. She followed Elsa's lead of not saying anything that happened some hours ago. She couldn't even bring herself to bring the subject that she witnessed that morning. She saw at the Ravenclaw table that Hiccup was not doing well. Then her eyes fell on Jack, who was eating faster than usual.
"Merida, are you okay? You're not eating." Rapunzel asked, her eyes full of concern.
"Huh? Nothin'!" she said immediately, "I wuz just thinking abou' the assignment Professor Abbott gaeve me."
"Ubb, verr ob a emm boou!" said Anna.
"Let the food loose, Anna, and speak in English." Rapunzel said.
Anna gulped. "We're on the same boat! You wouldn't believe how much assignment Evans gave us. It's a nightmare, honestly!"
And Merida was thankful for this. All she got to do was to look angry, nod at the right moment, and answer 'You're right,' 'that toad', 'can't believe it'.
