The world seemed to suddenly start spinning. Mr Pony fell from his grasp. Toris felt his knees tremble and he would have fallen had Vash not suddenly appeared behind him and supported his shaking body.
"W-what do you mean?" Toris gasped. His chest felt tight. "I a-adopted him. He's my son."
"Leave now sir before I call security." Michelle was firm, her hand reaching for a phone. "One of the doctors here, Doctor Fretka Łukasiewicz is his father. The last name is not common and he had a picture of when Felicks was a baby. Now get out!"
Toris reeled around, looking pleadingly down at Vash (the man was small) who looked like he was desperately trying to hold in his anger.
"Calm down Michelle," A smooth and sickening voice came from nowhere. Toris and Vash both spun to find the source of the voice. Toris all but froze when he saw it was the doctor that he had felt like punching. He had known there was something suspicious about the guy, something not right and now it turned out he was claiming to be Felicks's dad.
"You," Toris stepped forward once he had unfrozen and raised a fist threateningly. Vash pulled the fist down but Toris carried on nonetheless. "What the hell do you think you're doing? Felicks is my son!"
"Enough with this stupid claim!" Michelle had not taken the doctors request to calm down. "Doctor Fretka is the nicest and most selfless person I know. How dare you accuse him of pretending Felicks is his son!"
"Michelle enough!" Fretka snapped. "Let me handle this. This man is clearly delusional. I need to treat him for shock." The Polish man grabbed Toris's arm and began to lead him away. Vash ran to catch up.
"What do you think you're doing?" The Swiss man snapped to Fretka. "Let Toris go."
"I suggest you stay here Vash Zwingli lest something happen to Felicks." The man loomed over Vash, casting a shadow over his face. "Or perhaps something will happen to your dear family."
Something akin to fear flashed across Vash's face before he stepped back, strangely subdued. Toris was dragged out of the room then and down a corridor to a door labelled with Fretka's name. The doctor pushed Felicks so that he stumbled inside before calmly walking in behind in and shutting the door, locking it with a small key he tucked away.
"Sit down Toris." Fretka gestured to a seat. Toris remained standing. Fretka shrugged and made his way to behind his desk, sitting down in his chair and reaching for a jar of jelly babies.
"What do you want?" Toris burst out, his usually patient personality obviously on a vacation. "You have no right to claim Felicks as your son."
Fretka simply unscrewed the lid of his jar and ate a few of the brightly coloured lollies, offering one to Toris who pressed his lips together in an obvious decline.
"Sit," The doctor said once he had finished his snack. "You heard me out there. Don't make me resort to force. I hate getting my hands dirty"
Toris sat down with a bump, crossing his arms tightly in a subconscious move of self-defence. Fretka looked amused at this and took another jelly baby, separating the head from the body before he ate it.
"So why are you doing this?" Toris was sick of waiting for the man to speak. "Felicks is my son!"
"Well you see boy," Fretka all but spat the work out of his mouth. "Felicks is my son. My biological one at least. His stupid mother was afraid of me and took him somewhere she considered safe before returning home to me."
Toris couldn't stop his jaw from dropping as he stared at the jerk, Felicks's real father. Now that he closely looked over the revolting man, he could see some similarities. Their hair was the same shade of blonde and their noses looked alike.
"Well why didn't you find him sooner?" It was Toris's turn to spit. "You seem like a man with power. What was stopping you finding him?"
Fretka hesitated at this but he swiftly covered this brief pause in his concentration but eating another jelly baby.
"His stupid mother happened. She payed for her attempt to keep him safe dearly of course and now I have Felicks back. I am a patient man Toris. I simply had to wait and now Felicks has returned to me. He who waits, wins…or something like that."
"You sicken me." Toris hissed, standing up. "I want to see Felicks now!"
Fretka shrugged, standing up so he could tower over Toris. It was only just now that the Lithuanian realised how tall Felicks's father was. He had stood tall over Vash but the Swiss man was small. Seeing him in the small office revealed his true height.
"I'll take you to him." Fretka surprised Toris with this. "But only so you can say goodbye."
Time stood still for a moment before Toris lunged at Fretka, tackling him to the ground. The two struggled for a moment, fists flying and legs kicking as Toris screamed profanities at the man. It was Fretka who triumphed though, pinning Toris to the ground with his strong grip and lowering his face so that the 2 men's noses were centimetres apart. Toris struggled in vain as Fretka tightened his grip.
"You listen here and you listen sharp Toris." Fretka hissed. "I have eyes and ears in places you never could have imagined. The moment you and Zwingli walked into the hospital, I knew almost everything about you thanks to my subordinates. I know that Vash came from a homophobic home and that he was in hospital a lot when he was a kid for…'reasons'. I know that you ran away from home when you were 16 Toris. I know that you've cut all ties with your family and you intend on never returning."
Toris stopped struggling at this. How had Fretka worked all this out? How did he know? That was a secret. No one knew. No one could ever know.
"I hold power over you Toris. I hold power over everyone." Fretka laughed harshly. "So if you don't willingly give me custody of Felicks which I deserve, a little Hungarian in a little orphanage might just find the place up in flames."
"You wouldn't," Toris stared up into Fretka's cold, harsh eyes.
"Oh but I would." Fretka smiled at Toris before getting off the man abruptly and adjusting his white coat, smoothing the wrinkles out. It was then that Toris realised the doctor was serious. Deadly serious.
Toris scrambled awkwardly to his feet, wincing at the pain in his back and upper body. Just who was Fretka? A doctor yes but the pain in his body indicated he wasn't just that. Perhaps he used to be a wrestler. Or maybe his was just how tall he was.
"Come on Toris." Fretka was at the door, chewing on his lollies again. "We have to go visit your…oh I'm sorry I mean my son."
The man swept out the office in a blur of white leaving Toris to trail miserably after him. He had lost. He was going to lose Felicks forever and to such a harsh and evil man. It was all his fault. If he hadn't pressured Felicks about his past then the little boy wouldn't have run off and none of this would have happened. He had messed up again. Couldn't he get anything right?
The two men walked down the corridor. One was the picture of confidence, a smug look plastered on his face. The other was slumped over, his shaggy brown hair hiding whatever look his face now wore. He had the air of having lost a battle whilst the smug man seemed to be the one to have won. Anyone who passed by would never have guessed what struggles they had gone through and what was about to happen.
The two stopped outside a door, the smug man gesturing for the weary man to open it. He complied, pushing against it and stumbling inside. The smug man followed, shutting the door carefully behind him.
The room was small and held only 2 beds, one with the curtains drawn around it. The other held Felicks. The boy had a pad of gauze pressed against his left eye and held in place with bandages. There was a neatly stitched cut running along the right side of Felicks's face and his right arm was contained in a cast. The blankets on the bed hid the other injuries and Felicks was hooked up to a drip pumping blood into his body.
"Tori!" Felicks's face lit up before spotting Fretka standing behind Toris. His face slipped into a wary look and the little Polish boy seemed to shrink back into the bed.
"I…Felicks I'm sorry." Toris got out as he took a step forward. Fretka jerked him back.
"You will stay right here Tori." The man seemed to ooze evil as he said this. Toris did as he was told, trying to stop himself trembling.
"It's my fault." Felicks said carefully though his voice was thick with emotion. "You shouldn't apologise."
"But Felicks it is all my fault." Toris was almost in tears. "How can you not blame me? You got hit by a car because of me."
"Enough!" Fretka broke in. "Toris say what you have to say and then leave with you stupid Swiss friend."
"Say what Tori?" Felicks's innocence all but broke Toris's heart right then and there.
"Felicks I'm so sorry but…Fretka is your real dad and…you'll be living with him from now on, not me. I…I l-love you but I'm just not…not your d-daddy and I never will be. I am so, so…so sorry."
Fretka seemed satisfied because he gave Toris a push towards the door.
"Now get out. I'll be in contact about the paperwork. After all, I know your phone number."
This bit of information seeped into Toris's numb brain but he ignored it for the time being because Felicks was crying out, struggling to get out of his bed.
"No Tori no!" The little boy begged. "You said you wouldn't…YOU SAID YOU'D NEVER LEAVE ME!"
Toris's mouth felt dry as he tried to form words, tried to say anything to reassure Felicks. He reached a hand out as he struggled to find the right words. He was pushed out of the room before he could even say one word or form a sound.
The corridor was quiet as Felicks's screams had cut off after the door had shut in Toris's face. With a dejected moan, Toris began to trudge towards the exit, wondering what the hell he was going to say to Vash.
He didn't have to say anything. Vash took one look at him and shoved Mr Pony into the Lithuanian's arms and led him from the hospital. Toris was numb to everything as Vash shoved him into his car and drove him to his house, not even trying to make conversation.
It was only when Vash opened the door to announce he was home and not only Lilli but Elias and Roderich came running to greet him that Toris burst into tears.
Ahhhhhhhh I'm sorry! I'll update ASAP! Sorrrrrrrryyyyyy.
Reviewers can…vent their anger at how cruel this chapter was. See you next time bros!
