A/N: Hello! I'm trying really hard to update regularly or at least more often than I used to. If anyone wants to know the songs I've used, they will be at the bottom of the chapter :)
I want to give a big, warm thank you to Sam who has been so helpful and so, so patient. I'm honestly surprised she's not given up on me 3
Blaine sighed and huffed quietly when he saw Kurt walking down the hall with Sebastian Smythe. It was just so…odd seeing Sebastian caring for someone other than himself. Blaine felt jealousy spark in his chest when he saw Sebastian whisper something to Kurt, making the boy smile faintly.
Tightening his grip on his bag strap slightly, Blaine turned and walked in the opposite direction. He still had class to go to after all.
"I'll talk to Sebastian about it tomorrow," Blaine muttered, "See what he has to say about this."
"Not like it's any of your business, but yeah, Kurt and I are going out." Sebastian said, not looking up from his book. "Why?"
Blaine's stomach clenched and he cleared his throat. "Oh." He said softly, raising his eyebrows and crossing his arms. "Okay, how long have you two been…?"
Sebastian smirked and looked up at Blaine, tapping the table lightly with his pinkie finger. Sebastian responded smoothly, "He was assigned to my dorm and when he first got here, I helped him get…. settled. He might not be talkative but there are a few other things he does with his mouth that make up for that. I asked him out, he said yes, and that's it. Being in the same dorm has been pretty convenient, you know."
'What does Kurt see in this pig?' Blaine thought furiously, appalled at his classmate's behavior.
"Don't talk about Kurt that way!" Blaine exclaimed, earning himself a glare from the librarian. He cleared his throat and composed himself, lowering his voice. "You don't know what Kurt's been through-"
Sebastian scoffed, effectively cutting the boy off. "What, and you do?" the boy accused, crossing his arms and leaning back in his seat. "How would you know what he's been through? How would you know about anything that he's experienced?" At Blaine's stunned expression, Sebastian continued, leaning in and lowering his voice dangerously. "You're not his confidant, and you sure as hell don't know about real life. The only thing you know is how to be a preppy, privileged little boy."
And with that, Sebastian stood and brushed past Blaine, leaving the singer alone with shaky hands.
Blaine hadn't known Sebastian for very long, they'd only met recently, but that meant he knew nothing of the taller boy's past miseries. He clenched his fists tightly and swallowed his pride before slumping out of the library and back to his dorm.
Kurt looked up as Sebastian walked into their dorm room, face flushed and shoulders tight. He swallowed thickly and closed his computer slowly as his friend approached.
"Hey, Sebastian…" The boy said quietly, sitting up and crossing his legs. "Wh-what's wrong?"
Sebastian looked up and his glare softened instantly, his previously tense shoulders slumping.
"Nothing, Kurt." Sebastian responded with an all-too-convincing smile, "How are you?"
Kurt bit his lip lightly and shrugged, leaning back against his pillow. He'd decided against telling Sebastian about the tears he'd cried earlier, he wouldn't tell Sebastian about the way his body ached as he dreamt of…him. He wouldn't tell Sebastian about how he'd thought about all the things that he'd lost.
"I'm fine."
Fine was good. Fine was safe. Fine meant he wouldn't have to tell the truth. Sebastian was Kurt's only companion at school but he was still wary of the taller boy. He was terrified of being judged even knowing it wasn't in Sebastian's character to do so. This intimidating presence was his friend. Or so he'd said.
"Sebastian?" Kurt whispered, seemingly afraid to look up from his hands. Sebastian looked at Kurt, a curious look on his face. "We're friends, right?"
'He's going to laugh at me. He's going to think I'm weird and a freak for even asking. God, Kurt, what is wrong with you? Why can't you just make friends like a normal person? Maybe if you weren't so-'
"Yeah, of course we are." Sebastian responded, eyebrows furrowed, a wave of protectiveness sweeping over him like a storm cloud. "Why, did someone say something? Who was it?"
"No one said anything, Sebastian, I just…I never had a lot of friends in my old school." Kurt whispered the last bit, ashamed of his insecurities. "I mean, I don't blame them for not paying attention to me. If I were them, I wouldn't pay any attention to me either, I mean, I'm messed up."
Sebastian walked over to Kurt and sat next to him, observing carefully.
"Kurt, you're not messed up. I promise."
Kurt chuckled humorlessly and stared at the carpet stubbornly, refusing to look up. He'd never had anyone to confide in at McKinley. He hadn't even told his dad about what had happened at school. He didn't want to be a bother.
Sebastian flexed his fingers, wanting to reach out and offer some support, but he knew he couldn't. He was still frustrated and angry from his talk with Blaine. He didn't understand how Blaine could be so dense to believe he knew what Kurt was going through. Sebastian ran his fingers through his hair and looked at Kurt, eyes softening.
"Kurt?" When the boy looked up slowly, Sebastian bit his lip. "What do you know about Blaine Anderson?"
Kurt's eyes widened at the question and he hugged his knees to his chest, avoiding Sebastian's gaze.
I know that he has an amazing smile and a kind face.
"Nothing, really" Kurt answered slowly, "I bumped into him and dropped my phone and he helped me pick it up, that's all."
Sebastian nodded and grunted in response, standing up. "Okay." He responded slowly, "But uh…be careful okay? I don't trust the guy."
Kurt gasped quietly and his eyes widened. "Wh-why don't you trust him? He seemed nice when I met him." He said weakly.
Sebastian whipped around to look at Kurt, startling the boy.
"Sorry! I didn't…I didn't mean to upset you with um…with what I said." Kurt stuttered quickly, his voice soft. Sebastian shook his head quickly and sighed, trying to smile.
"You haven't done anything wrong, Kurt, I'm sorry I scared you." Sebastian said slowly, "Just something about Anderson really gets on my nerves, is all." He didn't see the way Kurt bit his lip and curled in on himself tighter.
'But why?' Kurt wanted to say, the words flying through his mind. He didn't say them though. He didn't want to irritate his only friend at Dalton. He closed his eyes and tried to relax, attempting to get himself to believe that, at least intentionally, Sebastian wouldn't leave or hurt him.
Sebastian finally noticed Kurt's posture and resisted the urge to pull his roommate into a tight hug. He bit his lip and crossed his legs, turning his body so he was facing Kurt completely.
"Kurt, you know you don't have to be afraid of me, right?" Sebastian said gently, "I'm your friend, I wouldn't hurt you."
Kurt looked at Sebastian nervously and nodded. Of course he knew that. He couldn't help feeling nervous, he couldn't help being afraid. The brunette boy noticed Sebastian's hand twitch towards him and instinctively flinched away from the movement. He cursed silently and looked up at Sebastian, hoping he hadn't offended the other boy.
"Sorry! I don't mean to be so…" Annoying. Insecure. Afraid. Weak. "Off. I know you're my friend and…I know you wouldn't hurt me, I just…" He stopped talking when he saw the corner's of Sebastian's mouth turn upwards slightly.
The taller boy nodded, standing up and walking over to his own nightstand. He opened the drawer and thought for a moment before looking back at Kurt.
"Do you like M&M's, Kurt?"
Kurt furrowed his eyebrows and nodded hesitantly. "Y-Yes, why?"
"Peanut or regular?"
Kurt pointed at the bag of regular M&M's and caught them when Sebastian tossed them over gently.
"I'm not so sure I understand." Kurt said quietly, staring at the bag with furrowed eyebrows. He looked up to see Sebastian smiling at him from his own bed, opening the bag of colored chocolates. "What are we doing?"
"You and I are going to have some roommate bonding time." He announced, throwing an M&M into the air and attempting to catch it in his mouth.
Kurt let out a soft chuckle when the candy ended up hitting his cheek instead. Biting his lip, Kurt opened the bag gently.
"Roommate bonding time?"
"Yep." Sebastian ran his fingers through his hair and smiled brightly. "We'll start with 20 questions."
Kurt smiled softly and kept his head down, staring into the bag of little rainbow M&M's and letting himself laugh quietly. Maybe Dalton wouldn't be so bad after all.
