The look on Rachel's face could have won awards for most shocked. Though with the police involved now, Toris figured he wouldn't be winning any awards in the future. Guns were all pointed at Rachel, freezing her in place due to the fear of being shot. She swiftly recovered however and jammed the barrel of the gun right against Romano's temple.

"Do you want to play a game of who's faster?" She asked smugly. Romano froze, his eyes widening and his mouth opening and shutting in silent fear. The guns never wavered but Gilbert held up a hand, stepping forward in front of Toris.

"Rachel right?" He said casually as if staring a conversation with a friendly stranger. "I'm Gilbert, deputy police officer, second to my old man. I've read files on you. You always slip away from us at the last second. I get the feeling it won't happen this time."

"Wait you know this girl?" Toris was keenly aware of the situation but still, Rachel already had a criminal past? Or at least a suspected one. Why was she not in jail?

"Rachel Cavetto Rosalie, suspected involvement in the disappearance of five people over the years. Evidence never found." Gilbert drawled easily, twisting his neck to from at Toris. "Now shut up. The awesome me will handle this."

"You shut up!" Rachel snarled, pressing the gun down harder. "Let me go or I'll shoot!" Romano's eyes filled with tears at this and Toris thanked the heavens that no one else was awake.

"Holy Santa Clause." A childish voice squeaked and Toris's thanks stopped dead. Tino, the small blonde boy was rousing from his sleep, big blue eyes taking in the scene. "W-what's going on?"

"Tino please be quiet." Toris begged. "You need to be quiet and stay still. Do you understand?"

"Uh,"

"Do you understand?"

"Y-yes," Tino stammered, eyes scanning the room, widening at the guns but his mouth remained firmly shut.

"You'll never win." Rachel broke in, laughing harshly. "Even if I'm found out, I'd never work alone."

"The orphanage?" Gilbert flicked his flip phone open, surveyed a message and shut it with a quick movement of his hand. "Already handled."

"What?" Rachel stared at him, her grip on the gun staying firm even though her tone and expression registered shock and bewilderment.

"Toris is rather good at typing without seeing the keyboard." Gilbert remarked lazily. He glanced down at the smashed remains of the Lithuanian's phone. "I suppose you didn't realise he actually did text."

Rachel's eyes lit up with pure fury and the gun swung round to point at Toris.

"You bastard!" She spat and Tino winced. "You evil lying bastard."

"Ready," Gilbert yelled and the men spread out, standing in front of each bed. The kept their guns trained on Rachel, at least fifteen barrels were aimed right at her.

With a muttered curse, Rachel swung the gun back round to Romano, too quick for the police to counter. Romano opened his mouth and before Rachel could move, bit down on her hand. She shrieked and hit at him with the gun, obviously not going to shoot despite her threats. She smashed him at the back of his head and the small boy fell back limply onto the pillows.

"Now!" Gilbert cried and one woman shot Rachel in the neck, quickly and swiftly. A small dart was now protruding from her neck. A look of surprised fluttered over her face before the gun fell from her hand with a clatter and she collapsed.

"What?" Toris stared in shock at the unconscious body. The entire sequence had been performed with the utmost care and precision. It had also happened in a matter of seconds.

"Secure her," Gilbert barked. "Toris, inform me of everything properly. Janice, tend to the boy who got hit. Am I right in guessing this hospital is corrupt?"

"You're right," Toris said thickly, moving to sit in a chair. "And that's not the half of it."

Vash looked around cautiously, holding Elias tightly to his chest. A warm arm was draped over him, Roderich's. Lilli was clinging to the Austrian, her eyes dry but fearful. Some kids were crowded around them and others around Arthur. The Brit was holding the twins Arthur and Matthew, reassuring them that they'd done a great job delivering the note to Toris.

All the kids and adults in the orphanage were still in the store room. Standing just in the doorway were two men and one woman. They had their guns trained at the occupants of the room. Other people were prowling outside. The guards changed every twenty minutes.

"Vash," Keith said hesitantly. "Do you think everyone at the hospital is ok?"

"I'm sure they are," Vash said calmly despite the gun that moved to his face the moment he started speaking. Another was wavering around Keith. "That's what hospitals are for, keeping people safe."

"Yeah right," One of the men spat. "Haven't you forgotten pretty boy? The boss is at that hospital."

"Shut up!" Vash spat back.

"Vash," Roderich said warningly. The arm around the Swiss man's shoulders tightened. "Please, don't provoke them."

"You boyfriend's right," The woman giggled, twirling the gun around her finger before pointing it back at Vash. "Boss said don't kill unless ordered but he didn't say anything about maiming you just a little bit."

The arm around Vash tightened even more and Vash found himself almost lying in Roderich's grip.

"I'm scared," Feliciano cried. "I want fratello!"

"Shut the brat up," The final man hissed, his gun never moving from its position of hovering on the sleeping Natasha.

"Come here Feli," Arthur whispered, beckoning the Italian boy over. "Come sit with me."

The boy scrambled over, dodging children and fell into Arthur's lap, snuggling up to him and burying his face in his shirt.

"Ted, get over here," A voice called. "I heard something and I can't find Til and Jim."

"Yeah, yeah whatever," The man called Ted shouted back. "Coming," he trotted off, gun at the ready. Vash stared curiously after him.

"Something wrong? Scared of a possum?" He asked innocently and watched as the woman's gun swung round to him. It had been Ted's gun that had been threatening him before.

"People don't just go missing." She hissed. "Someone's out there."

"Or something," Alfred piped up and then instantly cowered back against Arthur when the other man snarled at him.

"Quiet laddie," Arthur hushed him. "Just sit tight, help will come."

"Yeah right," The woman smirked. "No one knows what's going on. And of course you'll never be free again now that you know the deal with Boss."

"Marcus get over here!" Another voice yelled. "Everyone keeps disappearing. I can't get in contact with anyone over the radio."

"Tcch," Spat the man. "Stay here Rosie. Shoot if you have to, don't kill though."

"I know the rules." Rosie grumbled but she adjusted her grip on the gun and pointed it at Vash's leg. Marcus left, rolling his eyes at Rosie as he did.

Everything went eerily silent once he was gone. Some kids succumbed to the lure of sleep, others forced themselves to stay awake though they stayed quiet. Elias stirred in Vash's arms and he rocked him gently, encouraging him to stay asleep. Roderich tapped Lilli's arm gently but she shook her head, whatever silent message he'd been sending her ignored.

"Marcus!" Rosie called after a while. "Marcus where are you? Get back here!" She fiddled with a radio, speaking into it but receiving no reply. "What did you do?" She snapped at Vash, Roderich and Arthur.

"Nothing," Roderich said calmly.

"You called someone didn't you?" She hissed, waving the gun around. "And now the police are here. That's what's going on right?"

"No," Arthur sounded shocked. "How could we contact anyone? You took our phones."

"The kids!" She shrieked suddenly. "You told the bloody kids when they went to the hospital!"

"No!" Vash shouted. "We would never ever endanger the kids!"

"Liars!" She yelled. "They're coming for me!"

"Police, freeze!" A voice confirmed Rosie's fears. "Don't shoot, put the gun down and put your hands in the air!"

"NO!" Rosie shrilled and the gun went off with a bang.

A body hit the floor.

Um cliffy…yeah…SORRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. Please review.

The events in the orphanage take place before and during the hospital scene.
