"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know,
How much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away…"
Rob howled out of laughter upon hearing Jon's out of tune voice sing loudly in the karaoke bar. But for Annie whom Jon had forced up her seat so that he could wrap his arms around her while he sang dreadfully, she was happy and touched, knowing he chose that song over his obnoxious rock music for a reason.
Sometimes, Jon forgets that Annie is sick, because most of the time, she just look so normal, like an average healthy person. Sometimes, there were days when she'd look so healthy and blooming then, there were days when she'd wake up with half her body paralysed for a couple of hours or feel her muscles violently spasm for a few minutes then she'd be alright, she'd be up on her feet a few hours later after some rest and she'd be laughing, smiling and talking. He almost hoped that someone has a secret antidote that will heal her completely but as Jon was beginning to accept, fate was a very cruel force of nature.
Reaching for his third bottle of beer which Sami was handing him, Jon thanked his audience in the karaoke bar who called out how much he sucked, Rob's voice was particularly recognizable. He didn't care, he wasn't there to impress them, he's there to have a good time…with Annie. "Your turn, sunshine," handing Annie the microphone, he grinned at her, his dimples flashing. Chewing her bottom lip, Jon watched her pick a song, there was anticipation within him. He hasn't heard Annie sing since the very first night their paths crossed, the night she punched him and knocked him out.
"You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off of you.
You'd be like heaven to touch.
I wanna hold you so much.
At long last love has arrived.
And I thank God I'm alive.
You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off of you..."
Unlike Jon, Annie's voice captivated their small audience. It sounded like an angel's voice, as smooth as silk as every word left her lips containing pure, genuine emotion and passion. Goosebumps rose up at the back of Jon's neck when she opened her eyes, her hazel gaze landing right at him. He gulped, feeling an unfamiliar warmth crawl up his neck. For the first time, big, tough Jonathan Good found himself blushing under her loving gaze while she sang to him.
"I need you baby, if it's quite all right,
I need you baby to warm a lonely night.
I love you baby.
Trust in me when I say, OK.
Oh pretty baby, don't let me down, I pray.
Oh pretty baby, now that I found you, stay.
And let me love you, baby let me love you…"
Returning the smile on Annie's face, Jon got up from his seat and approached her. Her audience applauded her and cheered for her, Sami chanting for more was evident while the intoxicated Rob called out how much of a cheesy couple Annie and Jon were…he didn't care about any of those, all his attention was focused on her. Annie paused, stopping halfway through the song when Jon stopped in front of her. His tall form towered over her as she looked up at him questioningly.
"Come here and let me fucking kiss you," he grumbled and for a split second, she wasn't sure whether he was being serious or just joking around because he was tipsy. However, her hesitation was clarified when Jon pulled her towards him, letting her soft, supple body crash against his hard, muscled body and before Annie knew it, he lowered his lips and kissed her, gently but hungrily. Around them, their audience consisting mostly of Jon's friends and his workmates loudly cheered.
Jon never want to let this moment end. The more Jon spends his time with Annie, the more he realised that he'd been wrong about love, so very wrong about it. He had fallen under the spell and right now, Jon don't think he can ever break out of that spell, he is Annie's forever just as she is his'. For now however, Jon isn't ready yet to say his feelings out loud but in time he will tell her how he feel and hopefully, that time would come before the time they have left runs out…but sometimes, unbeknownst to Jon, actions speak louder than words.
Later that night, Annie closed her eyes as she breathed in Jon's familiar scent. She felt warm in his arms and wouldn't trade such moment for anything else. "I think you should still go and seek treatment, it's never too late," she heard his raspy voice whisper through the silence of the room. Annie blindly reached for his hand and held it tight.
"You won't give up trying, would you?" she chuckled, knowing that this is most likely the 20th time this week that he'd brought up the topic in hopes that he'd be able to persuade her…but Annie had made up her mind and even Jon, no matter how significant he was in her life, won't be able to change it, and if he does, it's too late, her days were numbered and this time, she can feel life slowly slip away each day.
"It was drug overdose that killed my mother, Annie, I watched her die and I didn't do anything. When I realised she way slipping away, I tried to help her back on her feet but I was too late. No matter how much I hate that woman, I loved her just as much and I was too late to save her. I don't want to repeat that again with you," there was pain in his voice while he spoke quietly. Annie brought his hand up to her lips as she gently kissed his knuckles. It made her feel like the happiest woman after hearing Jon's concern towards her wellbeing, it made her love him even more.
"You saved me, Jonathan, in more ways than you could possibly imagine," Annie murmured softly against his warm flesh. He held her hand back tightly as Annie felt him pull her closer towards him in hopes that if he did, she'll never go away. "You're my home, Jon. I've finally found a reason to settle down, I found the solution to my never-ending need to find a place where I belong and it's here, with you, in your arms," Annie informed him, her words were pure of love and Jon has never heard a woman speak to him like that. "My short time with you was worth more than the seven years I spent adventuring and finding happiness with my freedom because I fell in love with you, Jon."
In the dark, Jon opened his mouth for a response to her words but no words came out. Instead, he closed his mouth and wondered to himself about his own feelings for her. He's running out of time and if he's not ready to tell her his own feelings yet, he'll have to spend the rest of his life miserable.
