Previously on Soul Eater

Lord Death: It seems we sent them to an unsafe area.

Soul: What do you mean by unsafe?

Lord Death: It's a creature that's been there for centuries.

Spirit: Stein and I were sent there on assignment. It's the only one that got away from us."

Stein: We will be joining Kid and Maka in order to once and for all claim this tainted soul. The one we will be hunting, is the Slenderman.

Maka: This can't be what I think it is.

Kid: Maka, we may have gotten ourselves in too deep.

Maka backed up with her eyes wide. "Kid, is this really what I think?"

Kid nodded, stepping back as well. "It is Maka. Slenderman. So this is what's been taking those children." He said, disgusted.

She looked at Kid. "Should I… at least try to transform?" She asked a bit unsure.

He shook his head. "No, I don't know anything about it's tactics. We have to get out of here now." She nodded and they ran away. However it kept following them. "So the stories about it are true..."

Kid looked over to her. "Maka, don't look back!" She shot her glance to him. "That's what it wants. Those who look at the Slenderman have a tendency to fall into madness. Just keep moving forward!" He said, taking her by the hand.

She blushed and nodded. "Right." They began to tire, but didn't dare look back to see if it was still there. They didn't have to. They could feel his presence. It felt as if he were closing in. The madness affecting both of them ever-so slightly, causing them to hear the sound of a base drum slowly and rhythmically being hit.

"Maka, don't let go." She looked at him confused and Kid's skateboard appeared under him. "We're almost to the city. We will be safe there." The board lifted into the air and he pulled her onto it.

She sighed with relief. "Good, we got away."

"Do think, such a monstrosity is actually real. And I was powerless to stop it." He looked at Maka, who looked at him a bit saddened. "Don't worry Maka, I'm not angry. Come. Let us go somewhere quiet to think about our next move. Now that we know what we're up against, we'll be able to better handle the situation when it next arises."

Maka nodded and smiled. "Hey Kid?" She paused. "I'm glad you let me be your partner."

He nodded. "Unfortunately, I'm not a suitable meister to wield a weapon such as yourself. And you also already have Soul as your partner. Speaking of Soul, how is he? Have you to spoken since we came here?"

She nodded. "Yeah, I called him earlier to ask him about some relationship advice." She blushed and stopped talking.

"Relationship advice? Please don't think poorly of me, but I had always assumed that you and Soul were together." He said bluntly. "However, I never truly asked, so I suppose it's my bad. So, what did you need help with?" He asked, landing the board, but not stopping, letting the momentum power them through the streets.

She stuttered. "W-well, I guess… confessing my feelings to someone."

He nodded and stopped the board, letting her off and then turning to her. "Maka, if you care for someone, then you shouldn't overthink what it is you are going to tell them." He smiled. "You should just be honest, both to yourself and the other about your feelings."

She smiled. "Thanks Kid. That actually does help."

He nodded and then started messing with her hair. "And make sure to have your hair evenly styled. We wouldn't want the other person to think your hair were an asymmetrical mess now, would we?"

She sighed. "Thanks.."

At the DWMA, Spirit had gone to the usual balcony to think about everything they were going to do.

Stein came up behind him. "Hey there, Spirit. I've been looking for you." He said, mysteriously. Spirit turned his head, looking over his shoulder. "I've got something that you may be interested in knowing."

Spirit turned to him, Stein now next to him. "What is it?" He got a look of terror on his face. "Wait what did you do to me this time?" He asked.

Stein laughed. "No, it's nothing like that. It's about our going to track down the Slenderman."

Spirit looked back out over Death City. "That was our last mission together, wasn't it?"

Stein nodded. "Yes it was. I had miscalculated with how powerful it was, and now it's even more powerful than ever. We will need the help of everyone to get this one. If we leave it be for too much longer, it will become a full kishin and spread it's madness just as Ashura did."

Spirit nodded. "I won't have trouble with that. I'm just worried about Maka." He said in a sad tone.

Stein nodded. "I know. She may be a weapon, but Kid isn't exactly the best when it comes to asymmetrical objects, and a scythe is far from symmetrical. However, she can handle herself rather capably on her own as well. I'm certain she will be fine."

Spirit nodded. "I suppose we should all get going. Those kids will need help. I'm sure they've realized by now." He said walking into the school.

Stein stayed silent for a moment. "Oh, Spirit, before you go… I needed to tell you something." He looked back. "We've contacted Kami."

Spirit got a shocked look on his face. "My ex-wife?..."

Inside of Soul's room, his phone began to go off.

He picked it up immediately upon seeing the caller ID. "Maka! Is that you?"

"Of course it's me, you don't have to shout!" She said into the phone.

"What? You're shouting too!" He retorted. "Wait, this isn't the time for that. Are you alright?"

Maka nodded, which he couldn't see. "Yes, I'm fine. Kid and I ran into some trouble earlier though."

Soul nodded too. "Well, Maka, I don't know what trouble you've gotten into, but I need to warn you about something." Maka stayed silent and politely waited. "Be careful out there. We just found out… the Slenderman is there."

Silence came through the phone for a few moments until Maka broke it. "Uh… yeah. We kind of already saw it."

He felt like an idiot. Of course she already knew it was there, she had that soul precept thing or whatever it was called, that didn't matter right now. "You saw it huh? So is it just like all the stories say?"

Maka nodded. "Mhmm. It's not that it looks scary, at least not at first, something about it sparks terror and madness in people. The stories talk about hearing the sound of a large drum and that's what Kid and I both heard when it was following us. I think it does that to scare it's target and then when they're filled with paranoia…"

Soul nodded. "That's when he gets you." He sighed in relief that Maka was safe. "Oh hey, on a different subject, I heard you were talking to Liz about something earlier. Care to talk about it?"

She froze up. "Uh… well… no not really."

He huffed. "Oh come on, Maka. I'm your partner, you should be able to tell me anything."

She nodded. "Okay fine… so we were talking about these shoes she wanted to get-"

"Never mind, I'm cool with not hearing it." He said immediately.

Maka laughed. "Well, Kid and I have some stuff to take care of, so I've got to go."

Soul nodded. "Right. I'll see you soon."

Maka hung up the phone and plugged it in. "I don't want my phone dying on me again." She walked over to Kid, who was on a computer doing research. "So, what have you found out?"

Kid sighed. "Sadly, not much. It would seem that most people who encounter the Slenderman don't live to talk about it. In fact, the ones that do usually slip into madness. That explains the large amount of kishin souls that tend to happen around this area. But what I can't find is a way to beat it."

She nodded. "Well, according to the stories, he doesn't tend to move all that much. But that's not too helpful since, for all we know, it can really fight."

Kid nodded. "My father told me that someone had been sent here to take care of it a while back, but it seems they failed. They were the best he had too."

Maka leaned on the chair and rested her chin on Kid's head. "Really? Who?"

He moved his head and stood up, closing the computer. "It was Stein and your father."

She looked at him shocked. "You mean Professor Stein failed to capture a soul?"

Kid nodded. "I find it hard to believe as well, though I suppose even the best can fail sometimes." He turned to her. "Maka… you need to learn how to fight on your own." She looked shocked. "I'm sorry, but I can't be your meister. I just can't get past the asymmetrical shape of your weapon form and the lack of balance on the right and left." He put his head down. "I am truly sorry."

She smiled and lifted his head. "Kid, it's fine. If you think I should learn to fight on my own, that's what I'll do. Because I already have a partner of my own and you have partners of your own as well. Plus being a meister and a weapon would be really useful in a fight against something like a kishin."

Kid looked at her smile, caught off guard. "Maka…" He looked into her eyes. "What is this? Is it possible that I am beginning to find Maka suitable for… no, that can't be right." He thought.

"Kid? Is something wrong?" She asked concerned. "You look troubled."

He cleared his throat. "No, I… I just was wondering if you could transform into a scythe. If you can, you should be able to utilize your full abilities."

She nodded. "Maybe we could test it… or not since you wouldn't be able to handle it… and I really don't feel like transforming just to fall over." She sighed. "Maybe I should have asked Soul how he does it."

Kid crossed his arms. "Actually, you and Soul's weapon forms, while the same weapon, are rather different. You wouldn't transform the same."

She looked confused. "Then who would I have to… I am not asking my father."

Kid turned around. "Maka, it might be the only way to utilize your powers as a weapon. Your father, though immature as he may be, is an excellent death scythe. I have no doubt in my mind that you could surpass him, but you need his help first. Your power has been dormant, so you'll need someone or something to trigger it. Like in the fight with Ashura."

She nodded. "Alright… I'll ask him… but under one condition…" Kid turned to look at her. "Kid… I want to go on a date."
