Kaleidoscope
Sasuke watched his daughter as she dozed in the hospital. Akiko had been rushed to the hospital following her most recent mission and her teammates and sensei stood in the hall outside, waiting for him to let them see her. He couldn't believe it when they told her what she had been through. His little girl . . . it hurt him to think about it.
"Dad." The pink haired girl stirred. "Why didn't you tell me there was more to the sharingan?"
"I didn't want you or your brothers to know." Sasuke rested his head on his hands. "The Mangekyō is immensely powerful. But it is a huge risk. It's power isn't worth the price you pay."
"What price?"
"Your sight." Sasuke explained. "Continued use of Mangekyō will blind you. But it's more than that. It's the Mangekyō which drove the Uchiha into ruin. I wanted it to fade into history as a myth, a mere legend like the Rinnegan."
"But isn't that real?" Akiko flipped a dark pink lock over her shoulder. "And does this mean that Itachi and Ryuu don't know about the Mangekyō? And that I finally surpassed them at something?"
"Yes." Sasuke sighed. "I need to tell you the full history of the Uchiha. You need to understand it. Not a word that I say is to leave this room, understood?"
"Hn."
When Sasuke had finished, Akiko stared at her hands. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"Would you have understood?"
"No." Akiko admitted. "It's just that it's awful. I can see why you wouldn't have wanted to tell us, I wish I didn't know." Akiko fixed her father with her dark gaze. "We can't let anything like that happen again. Not to the Uchiha, not to anyone. What you and your brother went though, it's awful."
"Do you understand why I didn't tell you three about Mangekyō?"
"Yes. I'll only use it in an emergency." She leaned over and hugged her father. "Thankyou."
