Chapter Fifteen
Someone is caressing my hair when I wake up a little later on the couch the to television on. I groan and open my eyes slowly to see Embry sitting on the floor before me with a smile on his face. I smile back and touch his face to see if he is real.
"You are back," I whisper. Embry kisses my forehead and caresses my cheek more before moving his hand to my stomach.
"How is our baby boy?" Embry asks.
"Sleeping and relaxing after this morning. What time is it?" I say.
"Time for you to get up," Embry chuckles. I giggle as Embry helps me up. We stop to listen to the shouts and argument between Matthew, Billy and Jacob. The two of us walk over and we look to see Matthew and Jacob having a stand off with Billy in the middle.
"You have no idea what it is like to be in love with someone like this! You don't know what it is like to be loved back by the very same person you love dearly!" Matthew growls. I rush over to push the two of them away when I saw them inching closer to each other.
"Stop this right now!" I shout back at them. Matthew growls and then runs out the front door. I turn to Jacob and cross my arms over my chest. "What did you guys do while I was sleeping?"
"Matthew wants to leave us and live with his girlfriend because he thinks he is in love with her and is going to be with her forever," Jacob growls. I sigh and rub my face before saying anything back.
"He is going to act like this because she is his first love, Jacob! You feel the same about Bella and I feel the same about Embry!" I snap. Jacob growls and he makes a step towards me. Embry snarls and moves to push Jacob away from me. "I am going to go and find Matthew to see if I can talk to him."
"Be careful, Marinna," Billy says. I smile and kiss his cheek before leaving to find my brother.
"What do you mean he is gone?!" I scream when I return home after spending hours looking for him. Billy, Charlie and Sue are sitting at the kitchen table with sad looks on their face.
"He called and said he was leaving with his girlfriend and her family. I am sorry, Marinna," Billy says. I close my eyes and see Matthew's smiling face and I bite my lip to hide in my tears.
"He can't," I whisper. I put my hands on my stomach and slowly drop to my knees as the tears start falling. "No, he promised he would never leave me."
"Marinna," Sue says and she comes over to me.
"NO!" I scream and thrash around to keep them from touching me. Sam, Jacob and Embry run inside and stop when they see me in my scream fest. Embry runs over and he picks me up to take me to my room. "He is gone, he promised me he would not leave me."
"Hush now, Mari, I am sure he is okay and that he will come back when he remembers what he promised you," Embry says. He sits on the bed with me in his arms and he rocks me gently. I push him away and scramble to get to my feet. Sam walks in and motions for Embry to leave us. I lean against the wall by my closet and take deep breathes.
"Marinna," Sam says softly. I spin around and open my mouth wordlessly as I look at the man that was like my big brother to me.
"Sammie, he left me. Mattie is gone," I finally am able to say. Sam walks over and he holds me in his arms while caressing my hair. He kisses my head and rubs my back as I cry into his chest.
"Belle, he will be back once he comes to his senses. He will be here to see his nephew be born," Sam says quietly. I hold onto his shirt as I cry harder. "Baby girl, Matthew did not abandon you like your father did. Matthew will always come back for you when you need him."
"Sammie," I sniffle. Someone knocks on the door and we turn to see it is Jacob and Billy.
"Marinna, we need to talk," Jacob says. I shake my head and hold onto Sam even tighter.
"No, you cannot take Sam from me," I say. Sam holds me close and he clears his throat. "Embry..."
"It has to do with him, yes, and the fight we will be doing for the Cullens," Jacob says. I fall to my knees and close my eyes. Sam and Jacob run over to me and they say my name many times to check if I am alright. I remain still and try not to think about the impending battle with a red haired vampire and the Cullens and my family.
Embry walks with me on the beach a few days later and the day before the battle. The snow has begun to stick at last. Embry holds me close to him and he pulls my blanket around me more and adjusts my jacket a little. I lean my head against his shoulder when we stop for a moment.
"Marinna," Embry says. I shake my head and hold onto him tighter.
"No, you are going to ruin this moment," I say. Embry moves to kneel before me and he kisses my stomach softly. We smile at each other as we place our hands on our child.
"I love you both very much and I will do anything for you two," Embry says. I lay my hands on his cheeks and look into his wonderful eyes. The baby starts to move when he kisses my stomach again. Jacob runs over and he stops quickly.
"Marinna, you need to get going to Sue's," Jacob says. I nod and then flinch at a strange pain. Embry stiffens when he feels me and then he stands up quickly.
"What just happened?" Embry asks.
"Nothing for you to worry about, Embry. Let's just get me to Sue's," I say. We walk to the car and Jacob drives us to Sue's. I am crying when I get out of the car and I cannot let go of Embry's hand. Sue smiles a little when she sees my tears.
"Hello, sweetie," Sue says, as we give each other a hug. We ALL go inside before dinner is ready. Billy has taken Charlie out for a fishing trip to keep him safe during the battle. I am sitting in the kitchen when Emily comes by with some food to join us. The rest of the pack is meeting outside while the three of us are in the kitchen. I smile and stand up to help Sue get everything out when the pain comes back and causes me to give a small scream while falling to my knees.
"Marinna," Sue and Emily gasp, as they run over to me. I try not to curl into a ball while grabbing at my SHIRT.
"The baby" I gasp. Sue and Emily try to get me to stop grabbing my SHIRT and to calm me down. Embry runs inside and he slides over to us. "Embry, the baby..."
"Hush, Marinna, it is going to be alright. Our baby is alright," Embry says.
"Get her upstairs and lay her on the bed," Sue instructs. I hold onto Embry when he picks me up and carries me upstairs. My whimpers are muffled against his shoulder.
"It is alright, Mari," Embry coos. Sue runs in and closes the door quickly when the sound of elephant footsteps is heard downstairs. She takes my pants off and then my panties. I wiggle around to hide my lower parts from Sue and pull a blanket over me.
"Marinna, I have to see down there to see if the baby is alright," Sue says. I cry and lean my head back from relief after the pain stops. "She is dilating and is going into labour."
"Not now, make it stop," Embry says. "I leave in a few hours, Sue, I cannot miss my child's birth."
"There is nothing I can do!" Sue snaps. "Marinna, how are you feeling?"
"I am fine now. Embry, we will be okay. I think our baby will wait for you to come back," I say between breathes. Embry kisses my forehead and he holds me like it is our last time together.
