CHAPTER 9
The water was shockingly freezing. It nearly knocked the breath I'd been holding out of me. I opened my eyes under the burning ice water. I saw a large blurry black mass. Confusion settled in my mind as it came slowly closer. I widened my eyes in delayed realization as the jaws of the large wolf snapped shut.
My eyes snapped open and I tackled someone to the ground in my nightmare clouded mind, earning a sharp cry of surprise and fear. My breath was ragged and threatening. I reached the dagger I usually keep sheathed in my belt only to find the whole belted arsenal gone. Instead I settled for clamping my hands around their throat. It felt strangely small, unsettlingly so. They let out a barely audible whimper as my clouded mind finally cleared to find a small dark haired child in my grasp.
She was crying.
Horrid realization dawned on me and I scrambled away from the poor girl and pressed my back to the side of the bed.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean it, I swear! Are you alright, did I hurt you?!" I asked frantically, looking her over carefully. She was sitting up and staring at me, obviously frightened. She was holding her neck with one hand and leaning her weight on the other. More specifically, away from me. At least I hadn't done worse.
My heart was beating against my chest as we sat there. She was shaking, her gaze glued to me. I couldn't blame her. Sango always said that reflex would get me into trouble.
Speaking of Sango, I had no idea where I was.
"Hey," I started carefully in a gentle voice. Despite that, the girl flinched. "Where am I?" I asked tentatively. She was silent and I sighed sadly. "It's okay if you don't want to answer, I understand." I told her, looking at my hands.
"…You're in the western kingdom, miss." The girl spoke. I released a breath I hadn't realized I'd been holding and looked at her. "The soldiers found you unconscious on the river bank." She explained shyly. I smiled kindly.
"The current must've carried me here." I deduced. Though, the western Kingdom was a few miles from the forest. By all sense, I should've drowned. "I am sorry about attacking you. What's your name sweetie?" I asked.
"…Rin." She replied. I smiled.
"That's a lovely name. I'm Kagome." I said, holding my hand for her. She stared at it and after a moment I awkwardly put it back in my lap and took a good look around the room. It was a nice gold color with white outlining. The ceiling was maybe twelve feet high and the bed was large and draped with red sheets. The only window in the room was about ten feet tall and had white curtains. It was dark outside and it was a half moon. I jumped to my feet, immediately falling back to my feet as a sharp pain ran up my leg. I'd forgotten had bit me.
Inuyasha!
"Shit." I grumbled, clutching my leg. Rin looked curiously at me.
"What's wrong?" She asked. I didn't answer, my mind was racing as I tried to sort everything out. The time laps between full moons was between twenty eight to thirty days, that means that between the full moon and new moon is about two weeks. Fourteen days apart and I've been here seven days. Also, if Inuyasha bit my leg then that means he had to have had some blood in his mouth. If that's the case, and I've been here for seven days, him, Sango, Miroku and Shippo having no idea where I am, they must think Inuyasha…
"Damn it!" I have to get out of here. I turned to Rin. "How do I get out of here and which way is the Angasha forest?" I asked her. She waved her hands in my face.
"No, no, no! You're too injured to go anywhere. Besides, Sesshomaru-sama said he wanted to speak with you when you woke up!" Rin explained frantically. Sesshomaru? The lord of the western kingdom? Did he want e to do a job for him? I didn't have time for that! Everyone most likely thinks I'm dead.
Inuyasha thinks he killed me.
But if talking with Sesshomaru was the only chance I had of getting out of here, damn it all to hell if I wouldn't try.
Rin had found me crutch and led me down the hall to what I assumed was the throne room.
There, sitting all high and mighty was lord Sesshomaru and his wife Kagura.
