Chapter Thirty-Seven

Rosalie is rubbing my back gently when I started having one contraction on top of another for the past fifteen minutes or so. Carlisle says I am not not ready, but I cannot wait any longer. Jasper cannot be in the room anymore and will only come back inside when it is time for me to push. I grip the edge of the bed with small whimpers and my body shakes a bit. Esme wipes my face with a warm wash rag when blood falls from the corner of my mouth from biting my lip too much. Matthew walks into the room quietly and he sits next to me on the bed with his hand over mine.

"Marinna, relax," Matthew says. I begin to sob when I realise that I am never going to get through another pregnancy without losing my children. "What is our next option?"

"We can do a Cesarean section with the supplies I have," Carlisle says, his arms are crossed over his chest in frustration. I take a deep breathe and then close my eyes.

"No, I want to push the babies out. Get Jasper, we are doing this now. I am far enough that I will not kill my babies or myself," I say finally. No one rebuttals against me, but they go about getting ready silently. The door opens and I catch Jasper's scent instantly. My tears fall down my face as my hand lifts for him. The moment Jasper's cool hand touches mine, I feel a little more relaxed. My eyes open to Jasper's sad smile and he lifts my hand to his lips.

"We are almost there," Jasper says for the first time all night. Carlisle helps me roll onto my back while Esme and Rosalie move the pillows to let Jasper sit behind me and hold me through this. Bella and Edward go to get some more hot water and Alice and Matthew stand off to the side to watch. Rosalie and Emmett remain by the main door to keep from Manny from coming. Carlisle drapes a sheet over my legs and he puts on a pair of gloves. Esme takes my right hand with a smile and we look at Carlisle.

"Alright, when you are ready I want you to push when you feel a contraction," Carlisle instructs me. I nod and take Jasper's hand while his other one reaches around to lay on my tummy. I close my eyes when I feel my body tighten at another contraction. Carlisle says for me to push and I scream out a little while I push with all my might. My vision blurs a bit and I take deep breathes when Carlisle tells me to take a break. Jasper kisses my cheek and compliments me with what I have done so far. My body feels heavy suddenly and my head falls back against Jasper's chest.

"Marinna?" Jasper asks. I am unable to respond when another contraction and the pain hurts to the point I have no choice but to push with my hardest. Jasper turns my head to look at him when I stop and my eyes become heavy. A sharp piercing cry came out and I look to see my little girl being lift up and she was beautiful. A smile slowly spread across my face as I look at my tan skinned baby girl with her father's face and his cute little nose. My head falls down and I am unable to keep my eyes open.

"Marinna?!" Matthew exclaims. My body is numb until I feel another contraction, but I am unable to push.

"Push some adrenaline into her system, we have to work quick since her body will burn it off," Carlisle tells someone. Jasper is remaining calm through it and I open my eyes to look at Matthew.

"Mama," I murmur. Matthew pales and he runs over to me.

"Do something! She is seeing our mother!" Matthew says.

"What does that mean?" Jasper's voice snaps.

"She is dying!" Matthew snaps back. A pin prick happens and I moan at the burning sensation from the small prick. I feel a little more energised and I look at everyone around me. "Push your son out right now, Marinna!"

"Please keep awake until we can bring our boy into the world," Jasper whispers. I closed my eyes and finally let out one more push and there is the soft sound of whimpering before a small cry. My exhausted eyes look at my little boy squirming in Matthew's arms and I let my eyes close at the last moment of the long night.

Someone is caressing my face softly and I hear two soft, but rapid, heartbeats. Slowly my eyes open to Jasper caressing my face and he is smiling at me. I smile at him sleepily when he leans down to kiss my forehead. The sun is shining through the curtains and it looks like it is the afternoon sun. I look around to see the room is back to normal with a little bassinet to my right, where the little heartbeats are coming from.

"Are they in there?" I ask softly. Jasper nods and then helps me sit up and then to my feet. Slowly, we made our way to see our beautiful baby boy and baby girl. "They are so beautiful and they look like a perfect mix of you and I."

"Yes, they are beautiful like their mother," Jasper says happily. "Manny came in earlier and he was all smiles when he saw his sister and brother. He hopes he gets to be able to play with them soon."

"They may grow up as fast as Reneesme, but we will have to wait and see," I say. I lift my hand over the edge of the bassinet and I touch Christian's soft cheek. He sighs and leans his head against my hand. Christine becomes a little upset at Christian's sudden movement and she moves closer to him for warmth. My two beautiful children are here and are perfect from the tip of their toes to the tip of their nose that looks like Jasper's nose. My perfect, beautiful angels.
