A/N I had some issues I needed to deal with, which left me with not much time to write. I did my best to write a good chapter though. I'm sorry it is not as long as the latest chapters you are used get from me.

Please R+R. As always I'm looking forward to them as you are looking to the next chapter.

Chapter 22

"Are you ready, Detective?" Cavanaugh asks.

"As ready as I can be." Olivia answers.

"Alright. Did the two of you talked about what I said earlier?" Cavanaugh asks.

"Yes we did. Everything is ready to be arranged. There will be a change in my MPA files, Casey will become second after Alex instead of my Captain. He knows about this. We discussed my living will and do-not- resuscitate forms." Olivia answers.

"Good. I know it not something you want to think about let alone talk about, but like I said it needs to be done if we need to do a surgery. Now we do this after the scans and I have looked at them if that is alright with you." Cavanaugh says.

"Yes, but there is something I want to ask or tell you before we go to get the scans." Olivia answers.

"Alright, what is it?" Cavanaugh asks.

"I want Alex to be present at the scans. In the area where you and the radiologist will be that is. Can you arrange that?" Olivia asks.

"I'm sorry. But I can't do that. It is against hospital protocol. I don't have the authority to do that. Don't get me wrong if it was up to me I would allow it without a doubt." Cavanaugh answers.

"Well who has the authority to allow that?" Olivia asks.

"The only one available at this time is Doctor Brown, I'm afraid. Normally it would be the head of radiology or this unit but they are not here anymore." Cavanaugh answers.

"Right. Alex you think you can stay calm with Doctor Brown in the room?" Olivia asks.

"I try to keep my mouth shut. I don't wanna miss this conversation. Can't promise it though." Alex answers.

"I know honey. It's good enough for me. Alright Angie, could you get Doctor Brown for me, please? And be prepared, I'm not taking no for an answer from her." Olivia says.

"I wouldn't aspect it any other way, Detective. I'm going to get her. Will be right back." Cavanaugh says and leaves the room.

"Lex, you don't have to keep your mouth shut. I don't want you to do that. You are better to keep it calm then I do. And one of us needs to use their head. So stop me when I go to far chewing her ass off if she refuses." Olivia says.

"Alright. But I only stop you if you are getting yourself so worked up that you are wanting to hit her." Alex answers.

"Ok. That is good. It won't be wise to hit her and have a lawsuit against me." Olivia says.

"Especially if you decide to sue her or the hospital at a later point." Casey adds.

"That will look good. Suing and get sued." Olivia answers.

"Not really, no." Alex smiles.

"Don't get stressed to much Liv, I don't want you to have pain attack again. This is not worth that and she isn't either." Casey says.

"I'll try. I don't want to have an other one." Olivia says.

A few minutes after she left Professor Cavanaugh returns with Doctor Brown. Alex tries not to stare the Doctor down. Doctor Brown has a feeling that if she looks at Alex she will be on the receiving end of her death glare so she avoids looking at the blonde ADA.

"Detective, you wanted to ask me something?" Doctor Brown asks looking at Olivia.

"Yes, that is correct. I want Alex to be present with my scans. In the area with Professor Cavanaugh and the radiologist that is. The Professor explained that she doesn't have the authority to agree to it and that you are the only one available at this time of the day that can. So I want to ask you if you want to agree to this." Olivia says.

"I'm sure Professor Cavanaugh explained that it is against hospital protocol. Ms. Cabot can go with you to the doors of the testing area, but that is as far as she can go." Doctor Brown answers.

"Yes, she did explain that. But I think, given the circumstances, that it is possible to step aside from the hospital protocol for so far and give Alex access to enter it for once and let her stay in the same area as Professor Cavanaugh." Olivia answers.

"What do you think I am, Detective?" Doctor Brown asks irritated.

"You don't want to know what I think, Doctor." Olivia answers with a deadly cold voice.

Doctor Brown looks at Alex and finds herself at the other side of Alex's infamous death glare. She quickly looks back at Olivia. That doesn't help her much either. Olivia has a ice cold death glare in her eyes.

"I think either Ms. Cabot or Ms. Novak set you up against me, Detective. Given the death glare Ms. Cabot is giving me." Doctor Brown says.

Before Alex can react to the allegation Olivia jumps in.

"I would mark my words if I were you, Doctor Brown. You find yourself in a very compromising situation already. I'm thinking about leaving this hospital and go to an other one. I don't think insulting my girlfriend and best friend is helping you to change my mind about that. I don't accept it from anyone close to me to insult my girlfriend and best friend. And I certainly don't accept it from you to do that. And to me it looks like that is what you were trying to do. So may I suggest you agree and give Alex the access we are requesting?" Olivia growls.

"After what happened today, I will allow Ms. Cabot to enter the area. I want to have this very clear, Detective, I don't appreciate what you said. I won't see it as a attempt to threaten me this time. Clearly you are not able to think straight right now. Next time I won't see it that way." Doctor Brown says sternly.

Alex looks at Olivia. She is afraid that Olivia will hit the Doctor now. She knows that would be a stupid thing to do right now. But the look she sees in her Detective's eyes is determination. No signs of losing her temper. Alex leans back against Olivia letting the brunette continue.

"You screwed it up big, twice today. Making it hell for two patients and their loved ones. Now as a Detective I'm used to a lot of different and hard situations, so are Alex and Casey as ADA's but I don't think the chance is very high that the other patient and their loved ones are Detective's and ADA's. So I think it is safe to think and say that for them this a lot worse to handle. As it was hard for me to hear the news I heard today I think I handle it very well. I think you have done enough and don't have the right to say that I'm not able to think straight. You are walking on very thin ice right now. I don't think you are allowed to say to a patient that he or she can't think straight, the way you just did to me. Last warning Doctor Brown. Or speaking like this to me is the least of your problems. I am still a Detective, just so you know this." Olivia says sternly.

"This sounds pretty much like a threat to me Detective." Doctor Brown says.

"No it isn't. It is a warning like I said. I could arrest you for insulting and threatening an officer of the law, Doctor. I have a Professor and two Assistant District Attorney's as witnesses to confirm it. Who will be on the short end, do you think? The Doctor or the Detective?" Olivia says.

Doctor Brown want to react on this, but after thinking for a moment she knows that Olivia is right, she would be on the short end. So she decides against it.

"Right, I won't hold you up any longer." Doctor Brown says and turns around and leaves the room.

"Alex and Angie, do you agree with me, with what I just said? Case, don't need your agreement right now, you already want to sue this damn hospital and Doctor Brown. I know I am right just want to have it confirmed, that's all." Olivia says.

"Detective, as far as I concern you are in your right. Doctor Brown was at least out of line with the way she acted and what she said. If needed I was willing to testify this in court." Cavanaugh says.

"I know it is wrong for me as an attorney to say this, but as your girlfriend I'm not. I'm almost disappointed that you didn't hit her. Almost I said. You would have been in your right if you had arrested her. And of course I would testifying in court." Alex says.

Olivia smiles at the first part of Alex's answer. She looks at the three women in her room.

"Alright we need to go. We will talk about the paperwork after you have studied the scans, if that's alright with you, Angie." Olivia says.

"Yes, of course." Cavanaugh answers.

"Good. Now no matter what the results of the scans are, I want to be out of this hospital tomorrow morning. It doesn't matter if we need to go to hospital here in NY first or that we go to Houston. Just make it happen, Angie. Lex you can stay on the bed with me until we are reaching the testing area. I would like it to have you with me till then." Olivia says.

"Consider it done, Detective. Alright Detective and Ms. Cabot, are you ready to go?" Cavanaugh asks.

"For as far as I can be ready for this, I am." Alex answers.

"Just get this done will ya?" Olivia answers.

Cavanaugh pulls the brakes off and starts riding Olivia's bed out of her room.

"Oh two more things, Case." Olivia says.

She looks back at Casey.

"Call Liz. Tell her I want to take up her offer. Get her here. I want this hospital and Doctor Brown sued first thing tomorrow morning. And go to the precinct and get my personal file. I need to change my MPA there too." Olivia says.

"Yes, Detective Badass. I will ask her if she can come here tonight if she is available. Oh one thing, Liv. I need the code." Casey answers.

"First day." Olivia answers pointing at Alex behind the blonde's back.

"Ok. Got it. See you two when you are back here." Casey answers.

"Anything else, Detective?" Cavanaugh asks smilingly.

"Nope. This is it." Olivia answers.

Professor Cavanaugh shakes her head will riding the bed out of the room. The corridor is empty, and at the nursery station there are only two nurses. Wishing Olivia good luck. They are smiling and shaking their head when they see Alex snuggled up against the Detective. The Professor pushes the button to open the elevator and wheels the bed inside it. She pushes the button for the 3rd floor and the doors are closing.

Alex turns her head and looks at Olivia.

"Two questions, Detective." Alex smiles.

"Sure, Counselor." Olivia smiles back.

"Are you sure about suing them? And what code?" Alex asks.

"Yes, I'm sure. And you don't need to know that." Olivia answers.

"Ok. If you say so. The code I mean." Alex says.

"May I say something, off the record?" Cavanaugh asks.

"Of course. Unless this elevator has camera's, everything you say will stay between us." Olivia answers.

"No camera's. If I were you I would ask the radiologist about who switched the scans. When I called to make a new appointment it turned out the radiologist was still here. She asked me why the MRI scan needed taken again. That she already had taken a scan of the Detective. Well she said something more then Detective but nothing negative I can assure you. Anyway she was positively that she had the right scan added to the right file." Cavanaugh says.

They had arrived at the 3rd floor in the mean time and the doors were opening.

"Ok, Professor." Olivia says.

Professor Cavanaugh rides the bed to the doors of the testing area and Alex climbs out of the bed and takes Olivia's hand in her own. Professor Cavanaugh opens the doors to the area and the three of them enters. When the doors are closed behind them they walk to the right hall. Once inside Professor Cavanaugh turns to Alex.

"Alright, Ms. Cabot, you can go there. I will be right with you as soon as Detective Benson is prepared and ready to take the scan." Cavanaugh says, pointing at the area where they will stay.

"One moment, please?" Alex asks.

"Sure. I'll be back in one minute." Cavanaugh says and walks to the radiologist.

"Don't worry, Liv. I'll be as close to you as I can be." Alex says softly.

"I know. Thank you for coming with me. I'm scared, Lex. Not for the scans, but for what ever the results will be." Olivia whispers.

"I know, honey. I'm scared too. What ever the results may be, we will face it together. I'm not leaving your side. I love you Olivia Benson. I love you very much." Alex whispers back.

"I love you too, very much, Alexandra Cabot." Olivia whispers.

Olivia pulls Alex close to her and kisses the blonde on her lips. After a few seconds she let go and looks deeply into stormy blue eyes. Alex nods and kisses Olivia briefly on her lips before she pulls back. She squeezes Olivia's hand tenderly and then let go of her hand and walks to Professor Cavanaugh and the radiologist. The radiologist offers her hand to Alex. Alex accepts the offer and shakes her hand.

"Ms. Cabot? I'm Susan White, I'm the radiologist." Susan says.

"Alex Cabot." Alex answers.

"I get Detective Benson ready with Professor Cavanaugh. When she is ready we will come back here. The scan takes approximately 45 minutes." Susan says.

"Alright. Thank you." Alex says.

The Professor and radiologist leaves the area and walk to Olivia.

"Detective, do I need to explain the procedure again to you or do remember what we are going to do?" Susan asks.

"No need to explain it again, I know what you are going to do, Ms White." Olivia answers.

"Very well then. Let's get you ready, Detective." Susan answers.

They place a hardboard under Olivia and pull her over to the table where she needs to lay on and removed it after she is on it. After everything is done they walk back and Susan let Olivia go into the tunnel. 45 minutes later the scan is finished and Susan pushes the button for the microphone to speak to Olivia.

"The MRI scan is finished, Detective. I will get you out of there. I will transfer you to the CT scan on this table." Susan says.

Olivia pulls her hand up to let them know she understands it. A few minutes later Olivia is out of the scanner and ready to go to the CT scan. Alex of course is walking next to her. They walk out of the hall and into the next one where the scanner for the CT scan is.

"Detective, this scan will take approximately 15 minutes. Have you had a CT scan before now? Or do you need me to explain what we are going to do?" Susan asks.

"I've had a few scans before this one. I know what to aspect. Just do it, please." Olivia answers.

"Alright. Ms. Cabot, you and Professor Cavanaugh can go to the area right there. I will follow shortly after you when Detective Benson is ready." Susan says pointing at the same sort of area as for the MRI scan.

"Thank you. Just 15 more minutes, honey then it's done." Alex says and again kisses Olivia briefly on her lips before she goes to the appointed area.

When Olivia is ready Susan goes to Alex and the Professor and starts the CT scan. 15 minutes later this scan is finished too. Susan let Olivia out of the scanner. And they all walk to the Detective.

"We will return to the other hall and switch you back into your bed, Detective. "Susan says.

They return Olivia back to the other hall and transfers her into her bed again.

"Do you have any questions before they take you back to your room, Detective?" Susan asks.

"Yes, I do. One question. Ms. White, I don't want to or try to offend you, but are you sure you added the MRI scan that was taken previously, to my file and not to an other person?" Olivia asks.

"Yes, I'm positive. I checked it twice before I send it to Doctor Brown. Actually I was surprised when Professor Cavanaugh requested an other MRI scan to be honest. Why do you asks this, if I may ask? Was there something wrong with the previous scan?" Susan asks.

"Yes you may. And to answer your questions. My scan was switched with that of an other person. Doctor Brown has switched the scans or someone did it for her. That's why I asked Professor Cavanaugh to retake the MRI scan herself. I just wanted to be sure that she had the right scan even though she said that she had. Not that I didn't believed her. But I wanted to be absolutely certain. That's why I asked you, to make sure you didn't made the mistake." Olivia explains.

"I don't understand how that could have happen. If it is alright with you, Detective, I can open the open the file and show it to Ms. Cabot and the Professor. I'm absolutely sure." Susan says shocked.

"Please, do that. And of course it's alright, Alex is my girlfriend and my MPA. She is allowed to see what ever it is that you have in my file." Olivia answers.

"Ok. Professor, would you like to join us? I'm sure you remember what scan you have looked at." Susan asks.

Professor Cavanaugh nods and the three of them walk to the computer in where the took the MRI scan on. Olivia stays behind in her bed of course. A couple of minutes later they are back with Olivia. Alex is trembling of anger. In fact Olivia doesn't think she has seen the blonde ADA so angry ever before.

"What's wrong Lex?" Olivia asks worried.
