Price

The man who styled himself as Pain was well versed in the price of peace.

Peace cost war and war cost lives, and sometimes those lives belonged to people you cared about.

Nagato had lost more people close to him in his crusade for peace than he cared to think about. Some by his own hand (willingly or not) and others by the hands of his enemies.

Through the eyes of his Pain he looked at the body of the latest person lost to him, lost not because they stood for different ideals but because the way they fought for them differed. His Sensei, who he had killed merely because their opinions on how to bring about peace differed. The man who had helped shape Nagato's own ideals and given him the ability to fight for them, dead by his hand.

For a moment he wondered if his ideals had truly been worth the life of the man he had so revered.

Lucio BetaBlake also gave me this prompt. Ok so the prompt was technically about Jiraiya's death and I dunno, I guess I really enjoyed writing Pain/Nagato yesterday and then this happened. Prompts are always welcome!
