Chapter 14: Love isn't Easy pt 1
*In the Death Room...
Death was staring at his mirror silently as he pondered to himself about their current situation. As he watched through the looking glass, he tried to keep an eye on Medusa and Stein's team and the war with Arachnophobia at the same time.
As much as he was concerned with the outcome of battle, he found himself checking in more and more on Medusa, Stein, and the others. He stared at the snake witch as she and the rest of her team walked through the jungle. Like Stein, he knew that Medusa's intent was not what she made it out to be. But there was something about Medusa that he had been wondering for a long time.
He had technically had the feeling ever since the night that she and her team revived Asura, but it wasn't until they brought Medusa to him to discuss their current plan that he started to dig deeper into his curiosity. He wanted to know something, something that, depending on the answer, could change many things, whether for the greater good or to make things worse.
He sighed to himself. Spirit, the only other one in the room with him, noticed this and frowned. He could tell that something unsettling was going through the death god's head. After all, it wasn't like him to be so silent for so long.
He didn't feel like saying anything but at this point, he felt he should. "Um, Lord Death...Sir...?" he began. Death flinched but didn't take his face away from the mirror. "With all to respect, Sir..." Spirit continued. "It isn't like you to be so quite, and honestly it seems as though something is eating at you."
Death did not respond right away. Spirit merely awaited Death to answer rather than continue to pry. And, after a moment, Death lifted his head and spoke. "Spirit..." as he looked up he tried to think of how to form what he was about to say. "I'm sure you probably have, but like me you most likely lost let it go after a while...but have you ever stopped and actually wondered just WHY Medusa is the way she is?"
Spirit's eyes widened at the question but they soon narrowed as he looked to the ground. "Well, Sir...Yes I have, many times..." he brought his head back up and looked at Death seriously. "Why do you ask? Do you suspect her of something?"
"Spirit...I suspected her inevitable betrayal before she even explained herself to us a few hours ago."
Spirit's eyes widened. "What?! No offense, Sir, but if that is the case, then why in the world would you allow her to go this far?"
Death was silent yet again. He stared at the mirror, his eyes never leaving Medusa. "I can't completely explain my reasons in words but.." he turned and looked at Spirit. "Well I think the best way I can put it is...basically...I want to see just how far she's willing to go."
Spirit looked at him confused. "What do you mean, Sir?"
Death turned and faced the mirror again. "Ever since that night that she betrayed us and released the Kishin, this nagging feeling has been constantly eating away at me."
Spirit looked at him still confused.
Death continued. "At first I only wondered why anyone would want to cause so much pain for the world, but as I heard more about her such as how she treated her daughter, I began to instead wonder: how in the world could a person like this even exist? Not in regards to our current situation, I believe, or believed, that Medusa was by far the most evil individual I have EVER come across, even more than Asura."
spirit's eyes widened at that statement. Really? He knew Medusa was cruel, but for the grim reaper himself to proclaim her even more vile than the demon king was really saying a lot. He then realized something. "Wait, Sir, what do you mean by BELIEVED?"
"Well...think about it. What person would ever do such horrible things unless they had some kind of reason. Something that happened to her much earlier in her life that caused her to be like this."
"Well, Sir, before they left, Stein told me that she mentioned that it was because she had a rather horrifying encounter with the DWMA when she was a little girl."
"No, that was a lie."
"Wait what?"
"I can tell that that has nothing to do with this. I don't even believe that happened."
"Are you serious?!"
"Whatever happened to her must have been far more disturbing."
Spirit gulped at the tone in the death god's voice.
"And, honestly, at this point, I think whatever is driving her is slowly wearing off."
Spirit's eyes widened yet again. "Wait, why?"
Death was silent for a moment. "Spirit, this is going to sound crazy, and I mean it is DEFINITELY going to sound crazy, but I need you to hear me out."
Spirit's expression turned serious and he nodded.
"...I believe that there is good in Medusa that is trying to brake free..."
Spirit looked at Death confused with his eyes widened.
Death continued. "The first day I ever met Medusa, we did not meet in person, but I thought it would be appropriate to at the very least show my face through a mirror to the future doctor of the DWMA. And although I was not in her presence, in addition to the fact that she was using soul protect, I could still tell that there was something off about her soul. It seemed...poisoned, if you will, but at the same time I could sense genuine good coming from her."
Death continued to stare at the woman in the mirror. "Although I still have no idea why this seemingly pure evil creature has some kind of innocence deep within her, I can tell that the wall of madness she has built around herself is slowly starting to fade."
"Do you know by what?" Spirit asked, still confused.
"Yes...There is something here at the academy...something that she encountered here. And while even she may not realize it, that thing is like a shovel that is digging through the darkness around her so that it may uncover the light."
"...What is this thing...?"
"...It's not really a matter of what...more like who..."
At first Spirit looked confused but his eyes soon widened when he realized what Lord Death was getting at. "Sir...You're referring to Stein, aren't you..."
Death did not answer but Spirit could tell that he was correct. He almost couldn't believe it. Medusa was the thing that was pulling Stein into the darkness, but now Death is telling him that it is actually Stein that was pulling Medusa into the light. Spirit could not get over the horrible irony, not only in the sense of the obvious but also because Stein wasn't exactly what you'd call a good-guy to begin with...
Death continued to stare at Medusa but soon his gaze redirected to Stein. He thought to himself: "Stein, I hope that you realize this...You are the only one on the entire planet at this point that can save what might actually be a kind soul."
He then thought of something and depending an how things would turn out, it is possible that everything could fall apart, or perhaps they could do the impossible and turn the most evil soul in history to one of good. "Stein..." Death began to whisper to himself. "I now it might be risky and difficult, but you realize what you have to do..."
*With Stein and Medusa's team...
They were all sitting silently waiting for Stein to return. At this point, all they really needed to do was wait for the signal, the cannon would be fired, and they would have to be ready to fight against the surviving Arachnophobia members and most likely of all, Asura. (before anyone questions the logic of the cannon and its purpose, Is it really any different than the rail gun they used on devastator in transformers: revenge of the fallen?)
Eventually, they heard the sound of Stein's footsteps approaching them. They all looked up and saw him walk in through the thick trees. "Alright..." he began. "For right now we just have to wait for them to finish the RailCannon and be prepared for the battle that will obviously begin after."
"How close are BJ and the others to finishing it?" Marie asked.
"It should be at least an hour to and hour and a half before it is ready to be fired. Either Spirit or Lord Death will contact me right before it launches."
They all nodded.
"So, um...Are we basically just supposed to sit here until then?" Maka asked.
"Kinda hard to do nothing knowing all what's about to happen." said Kid. His voice was monotone and he glanced over at the Arachnophobia castle. he began to wonder how Black Star was doing...
"Well..." Stein took a half dead cigarette out of his mouth, tossed it to the ground, and stepped on it. "I wouldn't exactly say nothing..."
The others looked at him confused.
He took a step forward. "Maka, Kid, Marie...I need you to get up and stand next to each other."
Now they REALLY looked at him confused. "Wait...Why..." Maka asked.
"Please just do it. This is important what I'm about to say."
Even Medusa looked at him a little confused. His face was void of emotion the whole time, it was almost unsettling. But regardless, the three (with there weapons still in hand) got up and stood next to each other.
Stein began walking up to them, his eyes shrouded by the light on his glasses. "As you all are aware, once the RailCannon is fired, Asura will most likely be the only one to survive, and we'll have to deal with him head on."
They all nodded but were still very confused as to why he needed them to stand like this. After a few more steps, he was right next to them, facing the opposite direction. "And you all are also aware that we may have to deal with any surviving Arachnophobia members, which would most likely be Arachne herself...because she is related to Arachne, I think we should let Medusa handle her." Medusa merely flinched to the last part of the sentence.
Stein continued to walk until he was standing behind them. "You all know what this battle is about to become and that you must be prepared for it, correct?"
They all nodded. "Yes, Sir..." Maka said a little nervously.
"Of course." Kid said wondering where this was going like the rest of them.
Stein stopped and turned around. "Good. now I must apologize, but there is another matter that has come up. And it is something that must be taken care of by me specifically."
They didn't turn to face him, but they were still confused. Was Stein about to leave them to go do something else? But they needed him here for the rest of the plan.
...Before anyone could question Stein, Maka, Soul, Kid, Liz, Patty, Crona, Ragnarok, and Marie instantly felt a jolt of what felt like lightning surge through them. It was enough to instantly cause them all to pass out.
Medusa's eyes instantly widened. "WHAT THE!?" was what mentally passed through her head.
As they all fell to the ground, Medusa could see the electric sparks emitting from Stein's palms. "He used his electricity through his soul resonance?! But...WHY?!"
Medusa instantly stood up and looked at Stein with narrowed eyes, fearing what might happen next. "And just what was that for, Professor? Don't tell me that now of all times is when you've decided to snap."
"No, that's not it at all actually..." before she could question him, Stein quickly vanished.
Medusa put her guard up as her eyes danced around searching for where he might come from. But she was unable to predict him due to the confusion she was feeling. Stein came right up behind Medusa, grabbed both of her arms forcing them against her back, and placed his another hand against her mouth. Her eyes widened and she tried to break free.
He brought his face up to hers from behind and whispered something into her ear. "Stop struggling, I'm going to release you in a moment anyway."
She turned her head to him with anger in her eyes, but at the same time she wanted to hear his reason for this. He continued. "Lord Death and I both know that your just using us and are planning on betraying us when this is all over...You might as well not even bother trying to pretend like we're wrong, most of us have already figured you out."
Medusa stopped struggling completely and smiled behind Stein's hand. She licked his palm causing him to let go. She turned and looked at him with a sly smile. "Awww, and her I was thinking that for once my acting had worked on ALL of you." she turned away from him. "So what's up, if you were going to try and kill me you would have done it by now."
"That's because we're not going to kill you..."
"Oh...Well if you know what my intent is, then just what are you going to do?"
Stein let go of her arms and quickly wrapped his arms around her whole body. He then used his soul stitches (I forgot what they're actually called) and bound her arms to her torso.
She did not show much fear, even he had to know that these could not hold her for more than five seconds. But before she could even attempt to escape, he grabbed her and whispered something into her ear again, this time with and eerie, madness filled smile. "Medusa..." he began with a creepy tone in his voice. "For several reasons that I don't think need to be explained right now..." he then brought the blade of one of his examining knives up to her cheek. "I'm gonna MAKE YOU into the good little girl that your pretending to be..."
EXTRA:
Stein wrapped his arms around Medusa, forcing her still.
Medusa: HELP! HELP! RAPE!
Stein: Wait...What?
Medusa turns and looks at him seductively.
Medusa: Go ahead. I guess it's not rape if I want it.
Her snake tongue licks her lips.
Stein: WHAT!?
Holy Shit...I actually continued. Yeah I'm dreadfully sorry, especially to the people who had favorited this story and followed it. But for the longest time, I was just starting to get tired of this and almost felt like quitting. But I didn't want to just quit, especially since I said there would end up being 3-4 times this many chapters. But what really wanted me to continue was...well...the 23 volume of soul eater came out for us in america and even though i hate anything after volume 20, i still want to collect all the volumes. Reading made me remember just how much I fucking despise the ending, and it was this rage that made me come back to this. It's like what i said a while ago, you make fanfictions to have things go the way you want.
Well I'm back! I have another story that I'm working on so I'm gonna be going back and forth with both of them in terms of when a new chapter comes out. Hope you guys are still enjoying, and again I'm sorry for the delay.
Next: STEIN VS MEDUSA!
