In Days Gone By
In days gone by, Yuhi Kurenai had been part of a full genin team herself. Asuma (Felled by that blasted Akatsuki) Ishida (killed long before his time by an Iwa nin) and herself. Three innocent children who would be thrust into the depths of war, moulded and shaped by it. Although to be fair, those of their generation who claimed to have been unaffected by war were lying.
In days gone by, she had laughed with her friends. How many pranks had she and Asuma and Ishida pulled before the latter was killed in combat? To many. They has been the crazy ones. The ones who made everyone smile. All that has changed of course. They had grown jaded. He had picked up the smokes, and Anko was always up for a drink when she was. They stagnated until they realised they couldn't anymore. Then the rose again, stronger than they had been.
In days gone by, Kurenai had been very different. But her losses had shaped her, and she wouldn't trade them for the world.
Yes I made a lot up for this (like 'Ishida'. Bleach strikes again I guess.) But the 'drinks' I didn't, according to the wiki Sake and Vodka are two of Kurenai's favourites. Not sure why though, straight vodka tastes like jet fuel. I'm more of a Tequila girl myself.
