Rarity looked out over the water of the river. She sat in their favorite spot, thinking about the events that had just transpired. He had shown her images, images she now believed to be real, that depicted her once-called "friends" revealing their true thoughts of Tid. She knew now they had never truly trusted him. Maybe that was why everyone had so quickly urged her to stop mourning his death. She remembered their words as clearly as if they had just said them. She shook her head. She didn't want to think about that now. She looked into the water; gazing upon her reflection. Her skin was now black, the opposite of what it had been before. Her mane had gotten longer, but retained the same style. Her eyes now had a light tint of blue in the whites. They now had a more sinister look to them. Her horn was now longer, comparable in size to Princess Celestia's. A crown now rested just below her horn. It had two parts going alongside her head, one on either side of her horn. A diamond rested in the center of the crown. She smiled. She liked her new look. She liked her other look as well, but this one made her appear more sinister, which she felt is what she needed right now. Not only did she look more powerful, but she felt more powerful as well. She couldn't explain it, but ever since Tid had died, she had felt like she had more power, as if her strength had been increased somehow. She was no fool, however. She knew her limits. Although, she didn't know the limits of this new form. She decided she would see just how much she could handle at a later time. She had to know how much she could do, that is, if she wanted to achieve her goal. She imagined what it would be like when she had gotten her revenge. She relished in the thought of the ones who betrayed her and Tid at her feet. She couldn't help but laugh. As she did so thunder sounded. She was surprised when this happened, but it didn't keep her from enjoying it. She sat there for a short while before deciding to head home. She would need her rest. With that, she vanished.
Twilight awoke with a start, breathing heavily. She felt a disturbance. It was an evil force that she had not felt for a long time. She couldn't quite remember exactly what it was, but she knew she had to tell Princess Celestia. She woke Spike and used her magic to put him on her back and she teleported them to the castle. She ran into the throne room where Princess Celestia was giving orders to a few royal guards. They saluted and walked out of the room. Twilight walked up to the throne. "Princess Celestia, I've come with bad news." She said. "So you felt it too, Twilight." Celestia said. Twilight nodded. "What are we going to do?" She asked. Celestia closed her eyes. "I can't be certain, but I think it would be best if we found the source as soon as possible." She replied. "But what can we do? We don't have the Elements of Harmony anymore." "Twilight, you and the others all possess the Elements of Harmony within yourselves. Remember, the Elements would not have chosen you if you did not possess the qualities that represent harmony. I have faith in you my dear Twilight." Celestia replied. "Right. I'll get to work right away." Twilight said. Celestia nodded and Twilight teleported back home.
Rarity woke up the next morning by the sun that shone through the window. She sat up and used her magic to close the drapes. She looked over and saw her dress resting on one of her models. She was glad the dress had also grown with her. It was now much longer, atoning for her height increase. She looked to her left and saw the ring sitting on her nightstand. She smiled at it. The ring itself was a very beautiful one. It had the most beautiful jewel she had ever seen before, which was saying something, since she worked with jewels and gems. The meaning behind it was phenomenal. Tid had gotten the ring for a proposal. He had proposed on what now marked the day that started the war. She had never given him an official answer; although she had told him she would have said 'yes', had she been given the chance. The jewel shined brightly; almost as if the golden center were actually an energy source. She stared at it a little while longer, letting the happiness she had felt during his proposal wash over her once more. She closed her eyes, relishing in the thought that she would marry him with a smile. She could almost see the wedding playing out before her. Then she opened her eyes and came back to reality. The wedding would never happen, for there was no way to bring Tid back to life. It would take a miracle, but she was not hopeful. Even though she herself had been revived once, she knew it was only because Tid had used the Samsara of Heavenly Life, a technique she could not perform. He had told her how much Chakra he had needed to perform the technique, and she knew that even if she could perform the technique she could never get the number of ponies she needed to do it. She shook her head. No use worrying about it, she had something important to do. She got out of bed and showered, taking her time. She dried off and brushed her hair, letting her mind wander over trivial things. She almost smiled at the leisure she was having. For the first time since Tid's death she felt like a little of the normal in her life had returned. She took her time, knowing she wouldn't get many more moments like this. She finished brushing her hair and donned her dress. She grinned. It was time to start the day.
She walked to the door but hesitated. The others would surely notice her new image. She wondered if it was possible to make herself appear normal. She went back to her mirror to find out. She stood in front of it and closed her eyes. She concentrated on her other look, the one she had been given from birth, the one she hand grown fond of. If she was honest her current form could never replace that one. She and many others loved her look. Besides, it was the one Tid had fallen in love with. She started to feel a tingle stemming from her horn. It spread through her body, traveling along her veins. The sensation grew more present throughout her body until it suddenly stopped. She opened her eyes and to her amazement she now looked like her former self. She smiled. She turned and walked back through the door, stopping only to say goodbye to Opalescence.
She walked through Ponyville, saying hello to everyone. She was using this as a last day of peace for the ponies of Equestria, before starting her campaign to rid the world of the ones she had once called dear. She walked into a cafe and ordered a latte with extra shots of espresso. She sat down with her drink and looked out of the window. Outside she saw Twilight appear in a flash of light. She looked into the cafe and saw Rarity sitting there and immediately walked in. "Hey Rarity." She said. "Hello Twilight." She replied. She took a seat across from her. "Rarity, I want you to know that I'm terribly sorry for what happened a few days ago." She said. Rarity knew she was lying. "There's no need to be sorry. What's done is done, and there's no way to change it." She said, almost through gritted teeth. It took everything she had to keep her composure. "That's good to hear. I don't want my friend to be sad." Twilight said. Rarity calmly took a sip of her latte. She had to keep calm; if she blew her cover now she'd never get her revenge. The best course of action right now was to keep Twilight's suspicions as low as possible. "Rarity, there's something I've been meaning to talk to you about." She said. "What is it, dear?" Rarity asked. "Last night I felt a very powerful dark force emerge. You wouldn't happen to know anything about that, would you?" She asked. How did she know? She thought. Keep calm. She might not know it's you yet. She told herself. Rarity put on a smile. "Oh no of course not, darling. I'm not one to be associated with such business." She said. "Right. Well, sorry to bother you." She said standing up. Rarity watched as she walked out of the cafe. When the door closed she breathed a sigh of relief. She finished her latte and casually walked out onto the streets. She immediately went home. She had wasted enough time. It was time to search for the person who was most responsible for Tid's death.
Rarity sat in her house in the middle of the floor, concentrating. She had reverted herself back to her other form, which she felt the urge to call her Nightmare form. For lack of a better name, she accepted this. A few hours passed, yet she came up with nothing. She was receiving a signal, but it was too weak to locate. She would need to get closer to the source. She opened her eyes and stood up. She looked out the window to see the sun begin on its setting arc. She would leave in the night, so as to not draw suspicion to herself. That meant she still had a few hours before she would depart. She drew in a deep breath and let it out, feeling the air pass through her lungs. The air smelled of flowers, which were placed strategically outside her windows. She loved flowers, and had kept the flowers Tid had given her in a vase that now rested in her bedroom window. They were the flowers she had been particularly fond of when she had visited the flower shop in Tid's village. Tid had told her they reminded him of her, which had made her blush. She smiled when she thought of the flowers. She looked around, attempting to find something to keep her occupied for the next few hours. At that moment there was a knock on the door. Surprised, she quickly changed into her normal form. When she had settled down, she walked calmly to the door. She opened it and was surprised to see Spike standing there. He wore nothing but a white shirt that had her face inside of a heart. She was sickened by the sight, but didn't dare show it. "Hey Rarity." He said. "Hello Spike. What brings you here?" She asked. "Oh, I was wondering if you'd like to go somewhere with me." He said rubbing the back of his head. She frowned. He dared to make a move on her? The thought angered her. Nonetheless she kept her cool. "Terribly sorry, Spike. I'm afraid I have something I must take care of tonight." She said. "Oh, I understand." He said disappointed. "Well, goodbye Spike." She said. She turned around and began to close the door, when she stopped. She needed something to do for a few hours, so she might as well go. She turned around and saw him walking away, his head slumped. "Spike, wait." She said. He stopped and spun around. "On second thought, I will go with you. We just need to be back by eight." She said. He smiled. He seemed so overjoyed he could hardly contain himself. "Now, I don't want you to go off thinking this is a date." She warned him. "Oh I know, it's just a friend thing." He said trying to conceal his disappointment. She had no intention to date Spike. She had known of his love for her for a while and wished he understood she did not share these feelings. Oh well. That didn't matter. She needed something to kill some time, and then she would be off to kill someone else.
A few hours later they returned to Rarity's house and she bid him a farewell. As soon as he was out of sight she began to head to her next destination, which would be Robert's house. Luckily she had seen where it was, thanks to Tid, and how to get there. She walked through the countryside toward their house, paying little attention to the nature that surrounded her. Normally she despised nature, but Tid had taught her to love it. He had changed her in a way that hardly seemed noticeable, yet important. She was no longer afraid of getting her hooves dirty, which she felt invigorating. She liked her new self; one without fear of petty things. The only things she feared now where losing the ones she loved and death. Just then she saw the hill where Robert's house resided. The house seemed empty, which she had expected. She walked up the hill and opened the door, which stood slightly ajar. The house was indeed empty. It seemed they had left in a rush. Papers were strewn about on the floor, along with several articles of clothing. She walked in and sat down in the living room. She transformed into her Nightmare form and closed her eyes, once again trying to locate the signal. For a while she got nothing, but then it appeared. She latched onto the signal mentally and saw images play before her. She saw Vinyl Scratch and her two children playing in an isolated house. They were in the Crystal Mountains, which would take at least a day to reach. Far to the East, still in the mountain range, she found the signal of the one she was looking for. Robert sat in meditation, most likely unaware of her impending wrath. She opened her eyes and grinned. She stood up and walked out of the house, heading immediately for the Crystal Mountains.
