I woke up that morning with my heart pounding in my chest. Rarity was still asleep, a smile upon her beautiful face. I smiled at her, leaning in to kiss her forehead. When I did so her eyes opened and she wrapped me in her arms. "Good morning my precious gem." I said looking into her eyes. "Good morning my wonderful Prince." She said with a smile. She leaned in and we kissed each other, a moment of pure bliss I never stopped loving. "You know what day it is, right?" I asked her as we broke apart. "Indeed I do. Pray tell, what do you have planned?" She asked me. "I can't tell you that. I want it to be a surprise." I said. "Oh come now, you can tell me, can't you?" She asked giving me her beast doggy-face. I chuckled. "Sorry, but my answer's still no." I said. "Oh foo." She said pouting jokingly. "Don't worry, you're going to love it." I said. She smiled and hugged me.
I climbed out of bed and quickly showered. When I walked downstairs I noticed a mysterious box sitting on the kitchen table. It was wrapped in red wrapping paper and a nice royal purple bow. As I stared at it Rarity appeared from behind me. "Well? Go ahead and open it darling." She said smiling. "Oh, alright." I said blushing a little. I walked over to the table and picked up the box carefully with both hands. I then began to tear the wrapping paper away from the box and opened it. Inside I found a clear case containing a CD labeled "Tid". I set the box on the table and picked up the CD case, staring at the writing on it. I could tell it was Rarity who had wrote it as her penmanship was amazing. "A CD, eh?" I asked her. She nodded. "I had Vinyl help me with it. It has all our favorite songs on it, as well as our song." She said blushing. I set it down and hugged her. "Thank you, Rarity. I love it." I said. "So, where's my gift?" She asked. "You'll get it later. I know I'm making you wait, but trust me, it's going to be well worth the wait." I said. "Oh alright, I'll be patient." She said. "Good, then let's go." I said leading her toward the door. "Where are we going?" She asked. "You'll see." I answered.
I took her first out to lunch at Ponyville's most famous establishment: Premium Rarity. The establishment went up after the war had ended and the owner had asked me to name it. "Premium Rarity? But I thought you required a reservation to get in?" Rarity asked me. "I managed to pull a few strings." I said smiling. As we approached the establishment we saw that there was a surprisingly long line of agitated ponies and their dates. "Come on, we're going to get past them." I said to Rarity stopping. "How in Equestria do you plan to do that?" She asked. I pulled her in tightly and she blushed slightly. "In a manner you don't particularly like." I said raising two fingers in front of me with my free hand. Her eyes widened as we began sinking into the ground.
We reappeared a few seconds later in front of the reservation counter. I let go of Rarity and she shivered. "I absolutely despise that means of travel!" She said to me angrily. "Sorry, but I didn't see any other way." I apologized shrugging. Just then I felt a hoof on my shoulder. I turned to see a very angry stallion and his date behind me. "Hey, buddy we were here first." He said scowling at me. "Well I actually have a reservation for today. So I don't think I was interrupting anything; unless you had one?" I asked him smugly. He opened his mouth to retort but nothing came out; instead he closed it again, defeated in argument. I smiled and patted his shoulder and turned back to Rarity. "Shall we?" I asked her. She nodded and we headed straight for our seat. The building was a bit larger than most in Ponyville, standing an impressive three stories tall with a sky light on the top floor, doors opening to a glass walkway where well-paying customers would dine and enjoy a view that went as far as Canterlot. Lamps hung from the ceiling, illuminating the establishment in their orange glow. Many tables with white tablecloths were set out, each one of them filled with chattering and loving ponies. The floor was a black marble with a red carpet rolled out through its middle and up a staircase lined with glass panes and bronze railings. Rarity and I made our way up these stairs and up to the top floor where we went through the glass double-doors and onto the walkway where our table awaited.
Rarity stood before our table and gazed out along the land in awe. "How did you manage to afford this?" She asked me in wonder. I smiled and took her hoof in my hands. "Money is no object for you my precious gem." She smiled and I pulled out her chair, allowing her to sit down before pushing it in and sitting at the opposite side. The waiter came after a few minutes and set down two glasses of water and menus using magic. "Hello. How are you two doing on this fine day?" He asked us. "We're doing just wonderful." Rarity replied smiling. "That's good to hear. Would you like me to start you off with any appetizers?" He asked. "None for me, thank you." I replied. Rarity also kindly turned down the appetizers. "Well in that case would you like me to give you a few minutes to decide?" He asked. I nodded and he bowed and left. I opened the menu and casually looked through it, hardly expecting to find anything I'd particularly enjoy in it. "What should. I order, darling?" Rarity asked me looking through her menu. "Order whatever you like. Money is no object." I replied looking up and smiling. "Are you sure? I mean, a few of these items are very expensive." She said. "Don't worry about it, I've got everything covered. I just want you to have the best Hearts and Hooves Day of your life. Order whatever you'd like." I said reassuringly. "Oh alright, if you insist." She said.
As I was looking through the menu I found (surprisingly) an option to order a bowl of ramen. I chuckled a little at the thought of a high-class establishment like this one serving ramen. "What are you going to order?" I asked Rarity. "I'm going to have a salad topped with a red vinaigrette and a Red Moscato to drink." She replied calmly. "I never knew you were into wine." I said to her. "Well I don't drink it very often, but I do love a good red wine on occasions such as this." She replied smiling. "I see, that makes sense." I said. "Well what about you? What will you be having?" She asked closing her menu and setting it on the table. I closed mine and put it on top of hers. "I'll be having a bowl of ramen." I replied. "Ramen? You'll be having ramen?" She asked. I nodded. "My mother used to make the best ramen in the village. It was always my favorite thing to eat." "Oh, well in that case I can see why you chose such a simple dish." She said. I nodded.
A few minutes later the waiter came back with a smile. "Are we ready to order?" He asked looking at the both of us. We both nodded. "Excellent." He said taking out a notepad and a pen. "And what will we be having this afternoon?" "I'll have a salad topped with a red vinaigrette and a Red Moscato, if you'd please." Rarity said. He jotted down her order and looked up at her. "And how aged would you like your wine, miss?" He asked her. "Aged to perfection, if you'd be so kind." She said. "Of course." He said nodding and writing in his notepad. He turned to me. "And what will you be having, sir?" He asked. "I'll have a bowl of your finest ramen," I said trying not to laugh as the words came out of my mouth. "And if you have it, I'd like extra naruto." He jotted down my order. "And what will you have to drink?" He asked. "Water's fine, thanks." I replied. "Are you sure you wouldn't care for some wine? We have a large selection that could please the taste buds of even the harshest critic." He said. "Sorry, but I have an extremely low tolerance for alcohol." I replied. "Ah, I understand. My apologies." He said bowing and clicking his pen. "Will that be all for you today?" He asked. "Yes, thank you." Rarity replied. "Alright. I'll return with your order as soon as possible." He said bowing once more before turning and heading back into the building.
As Rarity and I waited for our food to arrive, we stared out across the entirety of Ponyville from the magnificent view we shared. "It's just lovely, isn't it?" Rarity asked me. "Yes. That's one of the reasons I brought you here." I replied glancing over at her. "I'm so glad you brought me here, Tid." "Yeah? I'm glad I could spend my life with a pony as wonderful as you." I said. She looked at me with a smile on her face. "You really mean it?" She asked. "Of course I do. You are by far the best thing to ever happen to me, Rarity. Literally nothing can make me happier than being with you." I replied smiling at her. "Oh come here, you." She said pulling me into a passionate kiss.
"Oh, I seem to be interrupting something." I heard a voice say. Rarity and I broke the kiss immediately and turned with scarlet faces to our waiter. "Oh not at all!" Rarity said rubbing the back of her head nervously, wearing a clearly embarrassed smile. "Er, right. Anyway, you're orders are ready." He said using his magic to distribute our food. "Thank you." Rarity and. I said at the same time. "If you need anything else, don't hesitate to ask." He said looking at the both of us. I nodded and he turned to walk back into the building. As he was about to enter he looked over his shoulder at us. "And please do try to keep the public display of affection to a minimum, if you'd please. I know it's Hearts and Hooves Day, but please do try and be considerate of others." He said. Rarity and I both flinched and our faces turned red again. "Of course, of course, we'll mind ourselves." Rarity said. "Hm." The waiter said as he walked inside.
As we ate, Rarity initiated conversation. "So, Tid, tell me more about your low tolerance of alcohol." She said taking a sip of wine. I wasn't sure if she had meant to do so right after that sentence, or if it was purely coincidence. "Tell you more? Well, I suppose I should explain what happens when I do get drunk." I said. She nodded and proceeded to eat her salad, staring at me as she did so. "The first time I got drunk was at a celebration party with Kakashi. I had never tasted Sake before and Kakashi insisted I try it, so I did. As soon as the liquid touched my tongue, I blacked out. When I woke up it was a few hours later, and the building we were in had been destroyed. Guy told me later that I had used the Drunken Fist, a fighting style that possesses massive power in its unpredictability and sheer strength. I'm not sure what makes it appear in someone, as I don't believe it's a skill that can be taught. I think it's shown in people with an extremely low tolerance of alcohol." I said. "My, it sounds terrifying." She said. I shrugged. "That's why I don't drink. Also, I don't particularly enjoy the taste of Sake." I said. She giggled and finished her salad. I finished my bowl of ramen, drinking the broth and setting the bowl on the table with a satisfied sigh. The waiter returned conveniently a few seconds later. "Are you alright here? Anything else I can get you?" He asked. I looked at Rarity but she politely shook her head. "That'll be it, then." I said returning my attention to the waiter. "Right. It has been a pleasure Sir Tid and Miss Rarity." He said bowing once more. Rarity and I stood and I took Rarity's hoof. "Come on, there's still more I have planned."
I took Rarity to a symphony performed by Octavia, which lasted longer than I had expected. I didn't mind, as Rarity was cuddled next to me the whole time. After the symphony was over, I quickly returned to the Carousel Boutique to grab a special picnic dinner I had packed the night before. The sun was beginning on its setting arc, already three-quarters of the way toward the horizon. This was going perfectly. Nothing could ruin this magical day. Rarity and I took a stroll through the park, just like we used to. "Tid, today has been just wonderful. Thank you for all of this; I truly do appreciate the effort you went through to put this magical day together." Rarity told me. "It was nothing, really. If I could, I'd treat you to a day like this everyday." I said smiling at her. "That's not at all necessary, dear. As long as I'm with you, every day is magical." She said pulling me a little closer. I blushed. "Thank you." A single tear dripped from my eye and onto Rarity's mane. She looked up at me and smiled warmly.
As the sun got lower we stopped at our favorite spot on the riverbank. It was under an oak tree that we had shared many moments together under. I lay out the picnic blanket- a cheesy red and white checkered blanket, and set out the plates and food. I then reached within the box and pulled out a unique purple rose. Rarity gazed upon it with shining eyes. "Here you are, m'lady." I said handing her the rose. She took the rose with her magic and gazed at it for a few seconds before resting it in her mane. "Thank you ever so much! Wherever did you find a Royal Purple Rose?" She asked. "Where do you think? I asked the Royal Gardener for one, and he gladly agreed." I replied. "I see. Well, it's lovely. It's one of the rarest flowers in all of Equestria, after all." She said. "Yeah, I did quite a bit of research on them. You know what they symbolize, right?" I asked her. She nodded. "They symbolize one's undying passion for a loved one- one that is capable of surpassing all obstacles." She said looking into my eyes. I nodded. "When I heard about that, I knew there was no other flower I could give you." She smiled and threw her arms around me in an embracing hug. "We'd better eat or the food will get cold." I said as we embraced each other. "Right." She said releasing me and blushing a little. I chuckled.
We dined on a selection of sandwiches prepared by Power Player as well as a side of chocolates I had bought on my last trip to the Hidden Leaf Village. We drank a refreshing sparkling water from a special source in Canterlot and watched the sunset. The sun began to dip behind the horizon, covering the sky and the land with a golden and crimson glow. The sight was truly one of pure beauty, a rare experience indeed - but what I was waiting to show Rarity was what came after. As the sun dipped behind the horizon completely, the night sky stretched out like a canvas and the moon began to make its way out. I turned to Rarity and turned her head so that I could look into her eyes. "Rarity, close your eyes." I said. "Why?" She asked. "Just trust me. I'll tell you when to open them." I said giving her a smile. "Alright, I'll trust you." She said winking before closing her eyes.
As the moon crept into the night sky, dancing with the many tiny lights of it's far off companions, I waited for the hour to strike midnight. It was then that I could show Rarity what I had been waiting all day to show her. I checked the clock on the tower in the center of Ponyville and it read 11:56. Convenient. "How much longer will I have to keep my eyes closed, Tid?" Rarity asked me a little impatiently. "Don't worry, it won't be too long now." I said placing my hand on her shoulder. As the moon reached its peak in the sky, I smiled and turned to Rarity. "Okay, you can open them now." I said. She opened her eyes and I directed her gaze to the large lunar body. She gasped and covered her mouth with her hooves, her eyes filling with tears of joy. I grinned as I wrapped my arms around her. "This is what I've been waiting to show you." I said gesturing to it with my right hand; my left arm still wrapped around her. She removed her hooves from her mouth and threw her arms around me in a warm embrace. "Tid it's wonderful! There are no words to describe how I feel right now!" She said. Before us, in the night sky, the stars were arranged to form a picture of Rarity's beautiful smiling face. Above it was a message mad e of even more stars. It said: "I love you, Rarity". "However did you manage to accomplish this?" She asked me bewildered but still happy. "I asked Luna for a favor. It wasn't easy convincing her, but I managed to do it." I replied staring at the display. "It's wonderful darling. Thank you so much for showing me this, you've made me so happy." She said.
"That's not all, either." I said. She looked at me in confusion. "If you'll excuse me, I have to take care of something." I said releasing myself from her arms and standing up. She watched as I walked out onto the water and stood facing her in the middle of the river. I weaved hand signs and jumped as two water dragons burst from the surface of the river. They arced on twin paths to form - yes, a heart. As they did this I inhaled deeply and blew an icy wind at them, freezing them solid. I landed on top of them and clasped my hands together, twin geysers exploding from either side as a result. I froze the drops of water that fell into sparkling flakes of white dancing their way down to earth. Rarity watched as this happened with a gaping mouth and watery eyes. I jumped back over to where she was still sitting and helped her stand. I took her hooves in my hands and looked into her brilliant blue eyes. "Rarity, this day I had planned to be all about you. You mean the most to me in all of the universe, and there is nothing that can ever change that. You will always be the one I love, and my love for you will never lessen, but instead continue to grow with every passing day that I can be with you. I will always protect you and never let any harm come your way. Each moment I have with you is a gift, a blessing that I couldn't have done anything to deserve. Your love is more precious to me than even my own life, and I would die to preserve it. I know this all may sound cliche, said a thousand times by others to their loved ones, but this comes from my heart, Rarity. I promise I'll never leave you, that I'll always be by your side, even when the world is dark and cold. Take this as my word, Rarity, and I will do everything in my power to uphold it. I have only one thing more to say to you- something simple, yet full of more meaning than anything else. I love you, Rarity." I said. Tears were flowing down Rarity's cheeks as she listened, my words moving her beyond compare. I hoped they would mean every bit as much to her as they did to me, because I meant them with every fiber of my being. When I finished she said nothing, but continued to stare into my eyes. I leaned in and kissed her, ending the perfect day with the perfect moment of pure bliss.
