Samurai

There were two differences between Samurai and Ninja, Mifune mused, and they were their sense of honour and the way the protected it.

The Samurai belonged to a more rigid, stricter sense of honour, they lived and died by the sword, striving to bring honour to their name. The ninja sense of honour was different, you followed the rules, unless the rules would get you killed, you did not bring honour to your name but to you village or team.

And the way they fought to defend their honour . . . It differed greatly as well. Samurai practiced drills until they never got them wrong, all learning to fight in one style as a group, no variation. Ninja practiced techniques until they were feared, each one with a different fighting style and only learning to fight along side one or two peers.

Mifune could not say which system was better, both worked extremely well, but he knew which one he would always prefer.

Drawing a little on the 'Young Samurai' and 'Way of the Ninja' books by Chris Lilley (?) (not sure if that is right). I went through a phase, ok? 'Blood Ninja' by Nick Lake is well worth reading by the way. Need convincing? Ninja. Vampires.
