Somehow Konan had ended up with the position of being a mother figure to Nagato and Yahiko. No that wasn't quite right, but she did end up being the one who patched up any injuries the pair obtained. And who made sure they were well fed. And that everything was in order.
She was also the one who would kill them if they did stupid things.
Yahiko used to joke about it, that when the war was over and they had won, or at least brought pace to the Hidden Rain, they would settle down and be a real family. She would ask him what gave him that idea and he would just smile.
Yahiko just knew that Konan would make a great mother. She cared for others too much not to.
