EPILOGUE

Cape Town, South Africa…

The smell of the ocean, the glare of the sunlight, the sound of people chattering. The unbearable heat…

Alex's eyes took a moment to adjust to the light after the brightness of the portal. When they finished. He saw a stand advertising helicopter tours. Beyond that a tourist boat. And further away from that, the old red clock tower.

Slowly he got up. He looked around, taking in every sight. The people around him meanwhile went about their business as if nothing was wrong.

Alex checked himself. Cellphone, black suit, sword by his side.

He looked back around.

And slowly, a smile began to appear.

"Yo my friend!" He heard someone calling behind him. Turning round he saw that a street vendor was looking at him. "You some kind of modern pirate? 'Cause you look cool, my man!"

Reacting to the vendor Alex checked himself again. Realizing that he did indeed look like something of the sort, the smile grew bigger.

"Yeah, something like that." He called back.

The vendor gave him the thumbs up.

Relaxing a bit Alex took a deep breath.

"Thank you, Soundwave." He thought to himself.

Alex then took out his phone to check a few things. Upon seeing the phone the vendor, who was still watching him from his perch, acted surprised.

"Hey my friend, that's a smart phone you got there." He huffed.

Alex looked back up at the vendor. "Thanks. It's a year old though, don't you see smarter stuff round here."

"Nah man, them tourists are all packing those flip-up things."

That caught Alex's attention. "What?"

"yeah," the vendor added. "Makes them feel cool and all that."

Suddenly Alex felt a bit funny. He walked closer to the vendor's stand.

"Tell me my friend," He asked. "what's the date today?"

"Speel jy dronk of iets?" The man asked sarcastically.

"Just answer the question."

"22 November, my friend."

Alex didn't' move. His stomach began to grow heavy.

"And the year?"

The vendor looked at him with surprise.

"It's 2012."

Alex took out his phone. Opening up maps he searched for Jasper, Nevada.

He found it.
