Another Penguin To The Zoo
Chapter 13
Picnic Invitation
It had been a calm week and the penguins didn't have anything else to do and so they began playing Charades, one of Private's favourite games. "Hmm I really do want to go another mission, I feel a bit bored," Skipper moaned as he watched Private trying to act out the Lunacorns. Skipper knew what Private was doing but he wanted to give a chance for Private to act his thing out.
"Well I don't miss going on missions, Little Miss Trouble caused me a lot trouble already. I had enough missions for a whole year," Kowalski teased Lindsey, with a tired smile. He really didn't want to fight any thief, or maniac this time. All he could think of was... Well he certainly didn't want to think about missions, that was for sure.
Lindsey asked if she could go to Marlene's enclosure. Rather surprisingly, (NOT) she found a familiar, tall, ring-tailed lemur, standing there. "How you doing?" He asked trying to mimic a cowboy's voice.
Lindsey giggled at his childishness.
"What's so funny about my new voice? Anyway, I was asking if you wanted to go on a picnic. You know, me and you?" he offered to her with a smug smile.
Lindsey didn't know what to say. She did like the idea of a picnic, it seemed better than the idea of being inside all day, but she also somehow didn't want to go.
"Please," Julian pleaded.
Lindsey felt that it would offend him if she didn't go and so she decided to say yes. Julian quickly gave her the details about the picnic and bounded off to his enclosure, looking very pleased with his accomplishment. After talking to Marlene for half an hour about... well you know... girl things, she decided to go back to the HQ.
As she went inside she heard a strange voice on the TV. "Sara, I know you're thinking that Blowhole might be planning something dangerous but-," Skipper didn't manage to finish his sentence.
"No buts, Skipper, I am being serious here and if you want to continue with your job I suggest you keep your doubts in your mind," a voice cut him off immediately. The voice sounded stern.
"Yes, Sara Kent!" Skipper obeyed glumly, but with respect.
Sarah must have seen Lindsey because she then questioned the leader. "Why did you not tell me you had a five penguin team? I thought there was only Rico, Kowalski, Private and you."
"There was only four of us. This is Innocent, our new agent," Skipper answered, with pride in his voice. Lindsey stepped forward feeling a bit nervous. "Pleased to meet you Sir, I mean Miss, I mean..." she greeted hastily.
"Well you got it right the first time, or rather you have called me by the title which I would have preferred. No need to refer to me as miss or sir, just call me Kent," Sarah corrected her. "Oh and I am the head of this force," she added smiling.
"Hello Kent," Lindsey said feeling more relaxed. After exchanging a couple of words ( also known as talking), the female General called out some parting words and then the TV went off. "Were you going inform me about something, or not?" Skipper asked Lindsey.
"Yeah, I was going to inform you that I was invited to go to a picnic with Julian. It's meant to start in thirty minutes," she replied. Skipper didn't look really pleased but then he decided to let her go.
Thirty mins later...
"Hi Lindsey," Julian greeted her, with a pleasant expression in his amber-yellow eyes. The picnic was already set up and the food looked delicious. There were sandwiches, popcorn and all sorts of sweet treats, some of which were so sweet that eating them all would most likely rot Lindsey's beak. The picnic was in the park. It was an ideal place, calm and peaceful, with no disturbances to the quiet atmosphere.
Lindsey sat down on the picnic blanket and greeted Julian back.
"Hey, you know what? Let's go and play volley ball afterwards," Julian offered, as Lindsey was eating a sandwich which was specially for her filled with fishes. She nodded. Honestly, the male was spoiling her.
They had a wonderful picnic and played lots of games. Yet, Lindsey could not help but feel as if someone was spying on her.
With Julian constantly cracking jokes though, Lindsey soon began laughing so much that she forgot what had happened not that long ago. As Julian took Lindsey to her enclosure again he mood seemed to shift. It seemed strange, to see his eyes so much dimmer, lacking their usual mischievous shine. They stopped at the enclosure.
"Bye Lindsey," Julian was about to leave, sighing. Then he did something that surprised Lindsey, much to the displeasure of a tall figure that was hidden in a nearby bush. Julien lightly kissed Lindsey on the cheek.
"Bye Julian and thanks for everything," Lindsey said blushing, as he pulled away. It felt strangely nice to be kissed.
The mystery animal had now been so surprised that it nearly fell over the wall it stood on.
"Hmm... Julien isn't that bad as the others think he is..." she whispered to herself blushing again, as the lemur walked off. The bush and the figure suddenly disappeared from sight. Lindsey was now 100% sure someone had been spying on her!
She stepped into the HQ looking around angrily, but as she looked into Kowalskis' lab she saw that Kowalski was even more angry than she was. So angry in fact, that he nearly forgot what he wanted to experiment with. He turned around to look at her and asked in a spiteful voice, "was the picnic nice?!"
"How do you know I was at a picnic- wait Skipper told you, didn't he?" Lindsey inquired suspiciously, looking at him, furious. "How could you?!"
"That's the question I was going to ask you!" Kowalski screamed back at her.
He walked off in a tantrum, mumbling something about trust and other stuff. Lindsey would have followed him but she was too angry to do so. So it was Kowalski who spied on me, I could have known! He should be ashamed! she thought bitterly to herself. Well at least my diagnosis is confirmed. He's jealous, but he doesn't want to admit it! Which means-, she stopped herself momentarily, not wanting to believe that possibility, but that can't be possible. May be it's not that, maybe he just doesn't want me to go for a picnic with just anyone.
Soon the two penguins calmed down and minded their own business like if nothing happened, but deep inside, both of them doubted that. Something had happened.
