Another Penguin To The Zoo
Chapter 16
War is On
Lindsey woke up, the anxiety rising inside of her body. As she got ready for battles, she remorsefully remembered the last minutes of her fathers' life, appearing in front of her eyes for mere seconds at a time, yet haunting her. She knew that this war would bring death and she knew she had to be strong. She owed it to her dead parents and to all those that died fighting for the right thing.
Skipper and the three other penguins were sharpening they battle tactics and moves. Like Lindsey, Private was nervous and didn't feel good. In fact he felt sick from the fear that was growing in his heart and even his gut. Not that it could ever excuse him from war. Not that he would leave his team for this. All the others did too. Or at least, most other young soldiers. Skipper, Rico and Kowalski weren't scared. They didn't seem to be shaken... at all. They were in countless wars before, unlike Private, who had just grown into an adult in recent years. Whenever there was a war, Private stayed in the HQ. But all the fear had to go aside this time.
They stepped into the battle. Five penguins and a crane. In first group. Danger awaited. Bombs exploded beneath the feet of countless of doomed warriors, animals screamed. But they all went forward. Every animal from the first group, which was made up of 100 animals, had found a penguin to fight against. Skipper and his group had took on Hades himself and this time there was no running away. However, it wasn't like Hades wanted to run away now.
"Why do you bad guys always get the good stuff?!" Kowalski complained as he looked at Hades. Hades was wearing iron armour and had a gold dagger in his hands.
"Cause I cheat, I steal, you just sit and do nothing!" Hades retorted smugly.
Lindsey was the first to attack him, angry for all the crimes he had committed. She had taken a long sword. It was thin, yet strong and pierced through skin like a knife through butter. Rushing forward , she managed to hit Hades but unfortunately, her sword simply collided against the armour, bouncing away from the metal, causing the sword to brake on impact. "What?!"
"You really think that a weakling like you and that sword could kill me, seriously?" he said with spite. Then he cackled, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "I see my army are way stronger than those Antarctic weaklings, you dare call soldiers," Hades added looking around.
Skipper knew this was true and so he and Rico went to help the soldiers whilst more Antarctic soldier approached. Half of the soldiers from the first group had already fallen. Tears seemed to drown out the ice, the clouds above them a deep grey colour. The loss of life bringing sorrow to Skipper. So many animals dead already. The spilled blood leaked into the ice below, staining it a deep crimson. Many of these dead soldiers could have had a future, many had families, but those sadistic, abnormal penguins killed them.
Skippers' Group
Skipper was fighting a tall penguin, with bloodshot eyes and an evil smile. His spine tingled whenever he looked at the penguin. The penguin was called Denis and he was, just like the others in Hades' crazy team, a maniac. His records showed that he was a serial killer, but Skipper didn't know that, all he knew and all he had to do was kill that penguin himself. It didn't matter who he was. Only now mattered. And he had killed now. He had killed the one who had dare fight him before Skipper had. The penguin also wore armour, just like Hades had, and he was full of spite and hatred. Skipper honestly pondered about whether or not Denis might have actually been a clone of Hades' as he had originally theorised. One thing was sure though. Denis was way worse than Blowhole, actually he was so bad, that Skipper would have trusted Blowhole a heck a lot more than Denis.
Rico fought Denis' brother called Killer, a suited name for an actual killer. Rico was getting madder and madder as he realised that he could never beat Killer by his special attacks. Killer managed to do what Rico could, which meant that Rico couldn't use his skills. Fortunately Rico was good at dodging attack, but what he could do, Killer could do just as well. Whenever Rico managed to hit Killer in the flesh so could Killer. Rico was getting tired, yet his opponent was just getting started.
It was then that, out of nowhere, a dolphin leaped out of the frigid Antarctic waters.
"Blowhole, what do you want now?" Skipper groaned impatiently, still trying to fight off his opponent. He was really starting to tip over the edge. Blowhole came on his scooter-like thing closer to Skipper, managing to push the penguin forward, back onto the ice.
"I don't no about you, Skipper, but those maniac pen-gu-ins are getting on my nerves!" the male cetacean exclaimed.
"So you're saying we got to work as a team, why do you want to work as a team with me?" Skipper said suspiciously. Blowhole sighed.
"You see, they are my rivals, I mean I annoyed you first, not that maniac Hades. I should be your arch enemy and that Hades is getting into the way. So why don't we both destroy him and his helpers?" Blowhole offered.
Skipper smirked. "Really, is that the reason? Fine, mammal I am in."
Lindsey's Group
Hades was tough, but Lindsey continued on fighting. Kowalski managed to hit him once, showing Hades' weak spot to Lindsey.
Private meanwhile went with Laki to get any injured soldiers into the hospital camps, as the two weren't very capable of fighting, but had experience with the injured. Yet the sheer amount of blood was admittedly gag-worthy, especially to young Private, who had never experienced a real war.
It was a lot harder to fight Hades than Lindsey had originally thought. Of course, she knew it wouldn't be easy, but this she did not expect. Especially because of the armour. For a hint of a moment, Lindsey looked away to see Kent battling some penguin in the distance, but then she looked back at her opponent. So far, a lot of the innocent soldiers were badly injured, this wasn't good.
Kowalski momentarily left her and decided to fight off another penguin, who thought of a surprise attack, but failed to keep it a surprise.
"You won't ever beat me, you worm!" the enemy penguin threatened in vain, punching Kowalski.
They fought for what to Kowalski seemed like hours, until he felt tired and found it nearly impossible to continue fighting. Suddenly out of nowhere came Rico and Skipper followed by... Blowhole!
"What is he doing here?!" Kowalski gasped, panting for air, as Blowhole finished of Kowalski's opponent with the blow of a flipper.
"You know, a thank you would do nicely! Really. Why can't you penguins ever be taught manners?" Blowhole complained haughtily.
"Kowalski, Blowhole is gonna help us so that we can return to our normal lives and then he'll be one of our only enemies once again!" Skipper explained looking at his lieutenant. Kowalski had a couple of minor injuries and one or two major ones and he panted heavily, but otherwise he was fine. Rico hacked up some bandages and they began patching Kowalski up. Then they went to help Lindsey.
During this time Private and Laki had returned, with bruises and cuts. "This was some hard work, carrying an adult seal is really hard!" Private complained to Lindsey as he returned. Hades has seemed to have disappeared. "Where is Hades?"
"He surrendered, I think I saw Skipper, so we won't have to worry about being attacked. There was not a trace of Hades again. And this time he left for good. It seemed as if his army was defeated. Skipper came up to Lindsey,"Hey soldier, where is that rotten fish, Hades?"
"Well I managed to get him but not without a price," She said showing the penguins her wounds. Her legs gave way and she fell onto the ice.
"Well, I think someone's' gonna sleep for a long time" Kowalski said, smiling fondly as he looked down at Lindsey. He slowly picked her up into his flippers, gently but firmly embracing her. "At least she got her revenge."
