It Could Have Been Different

"Why don't you come and spend time with the villagers?" The voice broke through Hashirama's daze.

"They're scared of me."

"You're their hero." Tobirama sat on the couch which had been added to Hashirama's office. "It's because of him, isn't it?"

"He shouldn't have left."

"He went power crazy and controlled the nine-tails to attack the village." Tobirama replied flatly. "Madara did not leave, he betrayed you."

"Don't talk like that, you treat all Uchiha like they can go rouge at any moment, they aren't like that."

"What? So Madara is an anomaly? An outlier who shouldn't be counted?" Tobirama stood up. "I give up, you don't see reason, you only see your friend. He betrayed you. You wanted peace, he gave you war. Yes it could have, should have been different, but it's not. He betrayed the village. He attacked your village."

"Our village." Hashirama stood up and grabbed his brother by his shirt. "The one we founded. We built. We were going to lead. Until you -"

"Until I what? Warned you of the dangers of his unstable mind?" Tobirama shoved his brother. "You knew what was coming."

"I will kill you where you stand."

"That won't bring him back to the village and you know it."

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii . . . I don't know.
