Together they shuffled through the early morning fog, leaning on one another for support. It was still dark, only the first rays of dawn were starting to make them selves known.
"Can you see it . . ?"
"I'm not him, Tenten."
It had been a year, or at least that was what their calendars said. As time had gone on it had gotten harder to cope, not easier like most people said. Some days it felt like it had been years since they last heard his exasperated sigh. Other days it felt like they had only just said goodbye, wishing each other luck as they split up for battle. Neither knew which was worse, but they both knew they couldn't go on acting like they were.
"Hey, hurry up. It'll fill up if we don't."
"Lee, I'm moving as fast as I can." Her voice was laced with emotion, but it was sadness, not the anger he expected from her.
"Hey, hey, don't cry before we get there. It's only a few more rows."
A few minutes later they arrived and they both sunk to the ground in front of the grave.
"Hello Neji." Tenten began, finally let the tears stream down her cheeks. "It has been a while since we came. We're sorry but we wouldn't have been people you wanted to be around anyway. A lot of things have happened since you left, but I guess you heard all of that from Hinata or Naruto. Those two are happy together, you should see them, their eyes almost never leave each other if they think no-one is looking. i guess everyone else is doing fine. N-one has heard from Sasuke in about three months. Sakura said that he just up and left in the middle of the night. I guess with him no news is good news though. And I guess you already know all of this. It's hard without you you know. I thought we would be able to cope without you-"
"What Tenten is trying to say is that we fucked up and we're sorry." Lee took over. "We couldn't keep afloat I guess. But we're going to get better. And we'll come and see you this time next year again. Watch us. We're going to come back better than ever."
"Just you watch us." Tenten gave a small smile as she laid the flowers she had kept under her coat in front of the headstone. "We'll make you proud."
