Sight
The always hated the expression 'a sight for sore eyes'.
It was ridiculous. What did it even mean? Eyes sore from overuse of dojutsu? or eyes that had seen to much war and bloodshed? And what was the sight? Something so wonderfully beautiful? If your eyes were sore wouldn't you want something soothing? How could intricate beauty be soothing. He used to ponder it aloud in the middle of the night.
Eventually she had told him to shut up. "It's a metaphor for something that makes you relieved."
"Oh."
"Like after the war, I saw you." She explained. "And I felt at ease because I knew that everything was fine. That, for me, was a sight for sore eyes."
"Uh-huh."
"You're awfully chatty today though."
"I've barely spoken properly."
"That was sarcasm."
