Hello, my lovely readers. This is the end of this story. Can you believe it? I just want to say thank you to everyone who supported this story because I thought no one would like it but you did and that means more than you can know. On with the show…
Chapter 32: We'll Remember
Elena Gilbert wanted to stay in bed today and all the way through summer break. Getting up seemed like too much work. Staying here, where it was warm, and she could keep Damon pressed into his sheets felt like the best possible option for both of them. Damon began to shift in his sleep until Elena placed her face on his chest. He stopped trying to wake, his head falling on top of her hair and his arm closing around her waist.
"Wake up, Lena!" Silas yelled at her and Elena woke, with a start. She sat bolt upright on Damon's bed, sending the sheets falling to her waist. Her best friend's head spun away from her so fast she couldn't help but laugh.
"You've seen it all before, See," Elena reminded him, grabbing her shirt from the floor and jerking it on.
Silas shook his head. "Yeah. Well, it's not my fault you and Mara share your looks."
"You should know. Don't you love being a triplet?" Elena teased him, grabbing her jeans and yanking them on before pulling her long hair out from her shirt and letting it fall down her back. "You're free to look at me now."
Turning around, with a hand over his eyes—Silas was used to Elena thinking she was funny—and still being naked would be good for a laugh. But she was trying to be nice; for Damon's sake. It was his big day and she did not want to ruin it for him. "See?" she held up her arms. "I'm dressed."
"For once," Silas grumbled. "Everyone's downstairs." His movements were swift as he made his way out of Damon's room and down the stairs.
Elena hurried after her friend, yanking on one ankle boot at a time while Silas navigated the house. They arrived in the kitchen where Damon sat on the counter, eating a stack of pancakes while Enzo manned the stove. Tom, Cami, Rene, Stefan, Klaus, Caroline and Alaric were already downstairs, eating. "Lena!" Damon waved to her with his fork. "Get some grub before everyone else eats it all."
"I have other places to be," Enzo reminded them. "Other graduates to feed."
"Yeah. Yeah. Keep cooking. I paid you for two hours," Damon snapped, cutting a pancake and feeding it to Elena who grinned at him, licking syrup off his finger with an expert tongue.
Enzo shook his head before flipping a pancake onto an empty plate. "The things I do for money," he grumbled.
Elena walked over to Enzo and kissed him on the cheek; eliciting a snarl from Damon. "Thanks, Lorenzo," Elena said, winking at him. She knew Damon was becoming irritable, just the way she liked him, all riled up. "Sorry, baby, you should always kiss the cook," she told him, leaning forward and grabbing the fork moving toward his mouth and turning toward hers. She placed the fork in her mouth, sucking the food off it and making Damon forget why she annoyed him, she could tell by his hooded gaze. "And shouldn't you be getting ready?" she asked him, placing her hands on his legs.
"He is ready," Klaus replied, leaning over the breakfast bar with his elbows.
"Not really. He's got to get dressed," Elena said, looking back at Damon who nodded.
"Yeah. Dressing," Damon set his plate down and hopped off the counter. "Be back in…"
"An hour," Elena told them.
"You're not hogging up all his time today," Caroline called after them. "We're leaving tomorrow!"
"We know!" Elena shouted over her shoulder. She would miss Care and Klaus. But right now, she was going to be selfish and she wanted Damon all to herself.
They entered his bedroom, making short work of undressing each other and getting under his sheets. "I'm going to miss you," Elena told him.
"Not as much as I'm going to miss you," Damon said, tracing her lips with his own.
"And you're going to call every day," Elena reminded him.
"Yup. If my phone won't work, I'll find someone who has one that does. And I'll be back on weekends. And holidays. And we'll have all summer long with most of my friends gone," Damon whispered. She saw a shadow pass over his face and rolled on top of him, sliding her mouth down until she made him forget his worries.
"We'll see them again," Elena swore, pulling back and looking at Damon who still looked sad. "And we can go visit them."
Sitting up, Damon ran his hands down her back, making her moan and shiver. "Yeah. But it won't be the same. We're all going in different directions. It's like the end of an era." Damon began to frown until Elena began to kiss him and then they stopped talking.
An hour later, they got out of bed and Elena helped him into his suit. "It's not every day that your boyfriend makes valedictorian," Elena smirked at him. "I bet Caroline thought she'd get it."
"Don't forget, Hayley. She's been working extra hard this year," Damon replied.
"Hell, she caught Caroline's bouquet. Sometime next year, she'll be a happy home maker and high school will be in the rearview mirror," Elena rolled her eyes.
"But did you see the look on her face when Caroline won prom queen!" Damon laughed. "I thought she'd have an aneurism." Still laughing, Damon wrapped his arms around Elena. "I tried to tell her that dating Elijah would kill her dreams."
"And your dating me, what's that done to you?" Elena demanded, taking his tie between her hands and yanking him closer.
"Dating you has made me crazy. And I love you for it." Damon replied.
"Being with you has brought passion into my life that I never dreamed of," Elena told him earnestly. She'd been more open with him over the past year than she'd been with anyone and it scared the crap out of her. Yes, she was still wacky, but Damon had dulled some of her edges and she loved him for it.
"Are you guys ever coming out of there?" Alaric called through the closed door. "The ceremony starts in an hour!"
"We're coming! Give us a second!" Damon shouted, he cupped Elena's face between his hands. "I love you, Elena Gilbert. And I want to spend the rest of my life with you."
"You're such a sentimental fool, Damon Salvatore," Elena replied, grinning and kissing him.
Damon led the way to the door and Alaric gave them a long look as they came out of the bedroom. "You're killing me," he told them.
"Hey, you already had your turn, now we're doing it my way," Damon told his friend, clapping Alaric on the shoulder.
Alaric shook his head. "Fine. You miss your graduation, it's on you, man."
"Stop being so worried. We've got plenty of time," Damon pronounced when Caroline came running up the stairs.
"Hayley's going to have a fit! Come on! She wanted us to be there, like, an hour ago!" Turning around, Caroline ran back down the stairs.
Elena grinned. This would be good. Damon, Elena and Alaric went downstairs to find that Klaus, Caroline and Enzo had already left. Stefan looked bored. Silas twirled his car keys around his finger while Cami bounced a cooing Rene on her hip. "Damn," Rene said and everyone looked at Damon who the baby was pointing at.
"Ha!" Elena began to laugh so hard she doubled over. "Good one, kid," she choked, grinning at Rene. The baby gave her a look, blinking her wide eyes.
"Damn," Rene said again, louder this time.
Stefan began to laugh, too. "Bet that's what I said when I met you, too," he told Damon who smacked him in the back of the head.
"Ouch," Stefan groaned, rubbing his head. "Are we getting this over, or what? I have places to be, people to screw."
"That's such a lovely sentiment." Cami narrowed her eyes at her brother-in-law, who shrugged, dumping his plate and glass in the sink overflow.
Damon led the group out of the kitchen, toward their cars. He drove Elena, Alaric and Stefan to the high school while Silas rode with Cami, Tom and Rene.
When they got to the school, the parking lot was nearly full. Damon had to drive around for ten minutes before he found a clear parking spot. "It's not like there's that many of us graduating this year," Damon grumbled under his breath.
"There's enough of you. Plus you've got parents, family from out-of-town and friends coming," Alaric pointed out. "After all, I came, didn't I?"
"Yeah. Ya did," Damon grinned at Ric in the backseat. "I missed you, man."
"Well, you're going to be seeing a lot more of me soon enough," Alaric replied, folding his arms over his chest. "Are we getting out of this car, or what?"
"I'm trying to avoid Hayley," Damon admitted. "This is her last chance to boss us around and she's been taking advantage for well over a week."
Elena's phone rang. She pulled it out. "Speaking of the devil-ess." Her eyebrows rose as she answered her phone. "Donato's! Will this be for delivery or carry-out?" Elena grinned at Damon when Hayley let out a high pitched sound.
"Tell Damon to get his damned ass over here!" Hayley yelled before hanging up.
"I think you've been summoned," Stefan gave Damon a look with an evil grin before getting out of the back.
"Last chance to make a run for it," Elena coaxed Damon, poking him in the ribs.
"Ouch and I'm going." Damon took his dear sweet time getting out of the car and walking around to open Elena's door. They linked arms and headed across the parking lot with Alaric by Damon's other side.
Entering the school, they walked down the quiet halls. Elena didn't think it'd ever been this quiet and suddenly she felt her throat close up. Looking at Damon, she could see that he felt the same way but was trying to be stoic as they marched ahead. "Higher!" Hayley's voice sounded from inside the gym. "Come on, people! We have less than an hour!"
Damon opened the left double door and Elena stepped inside, followed by Alaric and Damon. The room looked great, decorated in their school colors, with a huge: "Class of '13" banner hanging above. "Wow, the place looks great!" Damon shouted to Hayley.
The cheerleader turned around. Her hair stood atop her head in a style from Vogue, her dress a dark purple, almost black, falling two inches above her knees. She looked like an adult and Elena wanted to go back to when they were just little kids. It felt like too much. Why did they have to grow up and move on? Tears began to stream down her face.
"Elena, are you okay?" Hayley looked surprised, her eyebrows rising. She came over and hugged Elena. Caroline and Bonnie came running.
"Lena, what happened?" Caroline cried and then she started to cry. Soon they all started crying.
"Oh, my God! I'm going to have to re-do my makeup. And all of yours," Hayley complained before laughing.
"Are you all having your periods?" Stefan asked them. Elena turned around and punched him in the arm. "Ow, sorry I asked," Stefan rubbed his arm, hurrying off.
Klaus came over to their group, adjusting his tie. "How do I look?" he asked Caroline.
"Wonderful!" Caroline said and then her lower lip began to tremble. "Guys, this might be the last time we're all together, like this," she burbled.
Elijah strode over. "Thank God! I can't wait to get out of this damned place." He grabbed Hayley, yanking her against him. "And some of us are stuck with each other, sister," he elbowed Caroline.
"Ouch!" Caroline rubbed her ribcage.
"Elijah, don't elbow my wife!" Klaus yelled.
"She's family now, I'll elbow her if I please!" Elijah yelled back.
"Guys, stop!" Hayley ordered them. "We've got to go outside and practice our walk."
"Then why are we in here?" Elijah demanded.
"Because you threatened one of the parents for accidentally taking a picture of you, instead of their son!" Hayley shouted at him, rolling her eyes and stalking off.
"I am so glad I came to this," Elena told everyone else while Elijah went after his girlfriend.
Hayley paused in the doorway. "Come on!" she yelled at them. "Seriously! What is wrong with everyone today?"
"Maybe it's you," Elijah suggested, loudly.
"You're sleeping on the couch tonight!" Hayley yelled.
"Am not!" Elijah yelled back.
Damon led the group back through the school and out the back door. A stage was set up for the graduating class to mount. He began to pat his pockets. "Shit! I left my speech at home!" He cried, giving his friends a panicked look.
"I've got it!" Elena told him. Damon looked relieved as she handed it to him.
"This is why I love you," Damon told her. When he turned away from her, Elena grinned. One last prank before he went to Whitmore. No, he wasn't going Ivy for her sake, but that didn't mean she was giving up all her joy for him.
"I can't believe this is it!" Caroline said, taking Elena's and Bonnie's hands. Amara came over with Jack. "Jack!" Caroline flung herself at her friend.
"Caroline, it's okay. You're going to visit and we'll e-mail and call," Jack reassured her.
"I know," Caroline sniffled. Klaus took her into his arms. "Everything is changing."
"That's what's supposed to happen when you graduate," Jenna informed them and Elena grinned.
"Jenna!" she hugged her aunt who seemed shocked.
"Elena?" Jenna asked, peering at her. "Do you have a fever?" She placed a hand to Elena's forehead.
"Nope. I'm fine," Elena said when Jeremy, Anna, Kat and Jules came to join them.
"Hey," Kat said, taking Jules' hand and giving them a defiant look. "Did I ever introduce you to my girlfriend?"
"Nope," Elena shook her head before holding out a hand. "It's nice to meet you."
"Same here." Jules's smile lit up her face and she turned to Kat. For a second, Elena thought her tough-as-nails sister might break down and cry but she caught herself and shrugged.
"It's not a big deal." Kat looked back at Elena. "So, you and Damon. Huh?"
"Yeah. Who would've thought?" Elena shrugged, imitating her sister.
Jules scoffed, sounding like Kat. "We all did, actually, you guys just needed a match, because the fuel you were producing, damn." She waved a hand. "Even I was rooting for you two."
Everyone laughed before going to sit down to watch the graduates practice their walk. Hayley led them, turning around and waving her arms, counting off heads. Matt, Caroline, Mason, Elijah, Klaus, Damon and Jules walked across the stage, waving to friends and family.
Thirty minutes later their principal took the stage, introducing Damon. Elena got to her feet and shouted, clapping hard while Damon's dad whistled and his brothers waved at him.
Damon coughed, taking hold of the mic and grinning. "Hey. How is everyone today? Good. Right? Great. So, I wrote you a little note. Hope you like it," he winked at the crowd. Elena grinned and then fell back in her seat when he suddenly pocketed it. "You know, I don't want to give you a rehearsed speech about how the world is great and we're all going out to make a huge splash. About five months ago, one of our own took her life, and, that makes you realize something kind of bleak. We're not all going to make it. Some of us are going to get sick or there's going to be an accident or life is going to feel like too much. So, I want to say that we're going to go out, we're going to live our lives, to do the best we can, and hope, because there should always be hope, that we're going to see another tomorrow and to keep loving and trying to be kind to each other. The world isn't worth much if we spend our time tearing each other down, is it?"
People shouted, "NO!"
"Good. I feel that way, too. So, let's try, really try to not disparage those who look, act, think differently than we do. This is our world and we have to help each other survive in it. Thanks! Have a great graduation day!" Stepping down from the podium, Damon took his seat in between Klaus and Jules. Elena began to cry again and felt like a sap.
Watching her friends collecting their degrees, Elena got to her feet, cheering each of them on. She'd never really been the school spirit girl but today she felt it. Damon came down and she hugged him, kissing him, until he pulled back to hug his dad, his brother, Cami, kiss Rene on her little head, hug Ric and Jenna, slap Klaus on the back, kiss Caroline on the check and return to Elena. "This is a great day," he whispered to her.
They went back to the gym where they got drinks and ate snacks, danced, laughed, took a million pictures, and ended up, going back to the empty football field and collapsing. "I can't believe you guys are really leaving," Davina said, glancing around at the others. Kol had his nose nestled in the crook of her neck. Elena could tell they were having sex from the ease with which they curved into each other. She would have made fun of Kol for it but this wasn't the right day to do that.
"We'll visit," Hayley promised, getting up and hugging the younger girl who began to cry. Liv and Anna went to join them. "Positive news. I don't have the cancer gene. Downside, I'm adopted."
"I wish I were," Stefan grumbled, tossing a piece of grass at Damon.
"We wish you were, too," Tom snapped.
Anna jumped in. "I'm okay, too. But I'm not adopted."
"Great," Liv got up and did a back flip.
"Did you decide on MIT or Notre Dame?" Matt asked Caroline, yanking some grass under his right foot. He looked hopeful and Elena felt bad for him.
"NYU," Caroline replied.
"NYU?" Matt looked confused.
"Yeah. It looks like they want me to go and I can do what I want to do anywhere. I just want to be with my husband," Caroline announced.
Klaus grinned, kissing Caroline on the lips while the others tossed tufts of grass at them. "Stop that!" Klaus snapped at them but he continued to grin.
"I got into Kingsborough Community College which is located in Brooklyn," Elijah told them.
Hayley got up and then sat on her boyfriend's lap. "You waited until now to tell me!" She slapped his chest and they began to make out.
Elena laughed, turning to look at Damon who had her hand in his, he raised it to his lips, kissing her skin and looking down at her. "We're going to go get something in the car," Elena said and Damon got up. They hurried away from their friends and went into the parking lot. Elena smiled, yanking Damon on top of her. "Ready to start celebrating our summer together?" she asked him, pulling his tie off.
"Am I ever?" Damon replied. "I wish you'd worn a skirt."
"Shut up!" Elena replied.
One Year Later:
"Elena, we're going to be late!" Amara yelled.
Elena sat up, her short hair a mess from last night's partying. "Ugh!" she moaned.
Kat pushed her door open, shook her head and closed it. "We're going! She can take as long as she pleases."
Getting to her feet, Elena glanced in the mirror, her eyes widening at the piece of gauze on her left hip. She pulled it down to reveal a tattoo which stood out on her tanned flesh. A name: Damon. "Damn it!" Elena rolled her eyes. He would pay for that, she swore to herself, examining the tat. Last time she let him get her drunk and take her to a tattoo parlor.
Stomping over to the bathroom, Elena stripped down and got showered, tore a brush through her hair, pulled on her gown and grabbed the cap, holding it in her hand as she ran down the stairs. Thankfully, Silas, Bonnie and Enzo sat, waiting for her. "We're going to be late," Silas reminded her.
"Not my fault," Elena quipped.
"It is a little," Enzo replied, holding up two fingers.
"Just drive," Elena ordered him.
Enzo shook his head and Bonnie kissed him on the cheek, wiping lipstick off his skin. He began to smile and the drive was quiet. Elena could not believe it was their day already. Ever since Damon left, MF High felt so weird. She never thought that his absence would leave such an impact. Maybe it was just her.
The car stopped and they got out, heading for the massive football field. Elena walked slightly ahead. When she caught sight of him, seeing his back to her while he talked to Klaus, Caroline, Hayley and Elijah, she took her opportunity and leapt on his back. "Baby, ouch!" Damon groaned.
"Miss me?" Elena cried. "My hip hurts."
"So did not need to hear that," Caroline laughed, shaking her head. "Same old Elena."
"Not really," Elena said, hopping back off of Damon. "I missed you guys!" she told them, hugging her friends.
"I am not a bloody babysitting service!" Kol yelled. "I've got to go graduate. Take this. Its diaper is wet. Again," Kol scowled, handing a baby boy to Elijah who adjusting the baby's black jacket and little biker boots.
"Oh, my God! He's getting so big!" Bonnie cried, examining Dean, Elijah's and Hayley's baby. Turned out that Hayley got pregnant after their prom night last year.
"Isn't he?" Elijah looked completely different and completely the same. Gone was the goth makeup and clothes. But his suit was still all black and he could still scare people.
Hayley held out her arms. "I'll go change him."
"No, I'll do it. You need to sit and rest," Elijah replied, kissing her before going to change the baby.
Elena looked at Damon. He grinned. "Oh, don't even think about it, mister," Elena pointed an accusing finger in his direction. "There will be no babies in the immediate future. It's bad enough you branded me last night."
"What?" Caroline's eyebrows rose.
Elena lifted her gown and the guys looked away, except for Kol, until Davina smacked him on the arm. "See, this is his work," she pointed at the tat and then at Damon.
Damon rolled his eyes before unzipping his pants. "What the hell are you doing?" Klaus demanded when Damon pushed his boxers down.
"I've got one, too," Damon showed Elena her name on his right hip. "That's my commitment to you. Being willing to let some guy ink me. And it was your idea."
"It was?" Elena didn't remember that part. "Sounds like me," she shrugged, grinning happily. "Let's go get graduated."
The principal took the stage before announcing the "Class of '14." Rose something took the stage to give a really boring speech about how great the time she'd spent at MF High was and that the abstinence club would be holding a special meeting after the ceremony.
Students booed and Lexi Branson got up, telling them which layer of hell they were headed for. Elena chuckled, nudging Bonnie, their senior prom queen, who grinned back at her.
Lining up to collect their diplomas, Elena, for once, did not mind being stuck between her sisters. "Bonnie Bennett!" Bonnie took the stage, she accepted her diploma, switched the tassel on her cap from left to right and grinned at the audience. More names: "Lexi Branson. Sophie Devereux. Marcel Gerard. Amara Gilbert."
Elena sucked in a breath before her name was called: "Elena Gilbert." She walked up the stairs and onto the stage. Taking the diploma, she smiled before turning to the mic. "Thank you and good-bye MF-ers. It's been fun!" She took off her cap, throwing it to Damon who sat in the front row of the family and friends section before taking off her gown and throwing it on the principal's head. "Woooo!" she yelled, streaking off the stage and then through the audience while people laughed and Lexi turned purple. "Suck it, abstinence club!" Elena shouted, running past the horrified club members.
The principal recovered and Elena heard: "Katherine Gilbert. Jackson Kenner. Tyler Lockwood. Diego Monteo. Kol Mikaelson. Lucas Parker. Olivia Parker. Joshua Rouza. Lorenzo St. John. Camille Salvatore. Silas Salvatore. Stefan Salvatore. Thomas Salvatore. Rose Smith. Anna Zhou." And a bunch of people she didn't really care about.
The ceremony ended and Elena emerged in a Whitmore T she'd cut the bottom half off of, to reveal her stomach and a pair of shorts with her ankle boots. "Elena, I can't believe you did that!" Amara yelled at her.
"I can," Damon said, pushing his way toward her and giving her a long kiss. "I just wish that a bunch of guys didn't decide to make it into their new screen saver."
"Jealous?" Elena inquired, looping her arms around his neck.
"Nope. 'Cause I get to take you home," Damon said, picking her up and carrying her back to his car. Elena knew her mom would have a few things to say to her when she got home, but she could hide at Damon's for a day, or a week.
Damon drove to the Salvatore Boarding House where they were having a graduation party. Elena hugged her friends, laughing and dancing. "I can't believe you're leaving me!" she yelled over the music to Bonnie.
"It's only for a year," Bonnie yelled back, cupping her hands around her mouth, megaphone style.
"What's only a year?" Enzo asked, coming to join them and handing Bonnie a cup.
"We're going to be in Italy for a year," Bonnie shouted.
"You're going to Italy?" Kai shouted, coming to join them.
Elena turned to stare suspiciously up at Kai. "Where have you been for the last three months?" she demanded, placing a hand on her hip.
"I was typing up my book," Kai told them.
"You wrote a book?" Kat asked, joining them with Jules, Amara and Jackson. Hayley, Elijah, Caroline and Klaus came over. Liv and Luke noticed the meeting, bringing Tyler with them. Davina, Kol, Josh and Aiden came to stand behind Elena and Damon forced his way to her side with Cami, Tom, Silas and Stefan.
"Yeah. I did. And now that most of the people I've been writing about are here, I guess I can tell you what I've been up to. Hayley was right. I am a reporter. And I wanted to write about your lives. You're a pretty interesting group of kids. My publisher gave me a million dollar advance to complete the work by the end of the summer. I just need each of you to sign a release form." Kai stood, his arms folded over his chest and wide smile on his face.
"Why would we do that?" Enzo demanded, glaring at Kai.
"Why else, to be famous, or in Elena's case: infamous. You did cause Andie Starr to end up relapsing, going back in rehab and transferring to a school in Alberta, Canada. And might have humiliated a couple of people, vandalized the school's gym during your freshman year and caused one of two students to join the Witness Protection Program," Kai listed off Elena's work for the group.
"And I couldn't have had a more memorable high school experience. Where do I sign?" Elena asked, holding out her hand for a pen.
"We want to read the book before we sign," Damon informed Kai while Elena pouted.
"But, Damon, how else will people around the world know and fear me?" Elena asked him. "Please, just sign on the dotted line."
"Lena, you don't know what he really wrote in there," Damon replied.
"So, most people's lives become a work of fiction the minute someone starts writing about them," Caroline pointed out.
Klaus nodded. "Although I would like to know what he wrote about me."
"Me, too," Hayley cried when her shirt became wet. "Oh, damn it. Not again."
"Ha, Hayley's chapter should be about teen pregnancy and overly ambitious cheerleaders. It'll drop the rate of teen mommies by half," Elena suggested to Kai who pulled out a notebook and began taking notes.
"Is that the only reason you're here?" Bonnie asked Kai.
Kai smiled down at her. "No. No, I'm here to tell you that I got a job at Whitmore College, teaching creative writing. I hope to see some you in my classes."
"As if," Liv scoffed, rolling her eyes.
"I'm attending college at Berkeley, Kai," Luke reminded his brother.
Kai grinned. "I wasn't talking to you, Lil' Bro."
"He's your brother?" Tyler looked confused.
Kai ignored Tyler, his eyes stopped on Bonnie and Enzo stiffened. "Anywho. I've got some other people to talk to. I'll send you those release forms by mail."
"You don't have our address," Hayley called after him, pointing between herself, Elijah, Caroline and Klaus.
"Kol gave it me," Kai told them.
"Kol!" Hayley yelled, trying to get him.
"I heard baby Dean crying for his uncle, coming, darling!" Kol shouted, Davina trudged after him.
"I'm going to kill him," Hayley told Elijah.
"Let me take care of him," Elijah replied.
Klaus laughed while Caroline rolled her eyes.
Elena turned to Damon. "So, do you want to get out of here?" she asked him.
"Not just yet!" Damon pulled her outside. Pointing upward, he smiled when fireworks began to light up the sky, reading: Damon Loves Elena.
"You are such a dork," Elena told him, kissing him and smiling.
"Yeah," Damon nodded.
Davina appeared with Hayley, Liv, Anna, Jeremy and Kol. "E. L. E. N. A. G. I. L. B. E. R. T. L. O. V. E. S. D. A. M. O. N. S. A. L. V. A. T. O. R. E.!" They cheered before doing a series of flips, jumps and ending in a pyramid. "Go, Delena!" Davina cheered, waving at them.
"And that's why she became head cheerleader." Elena told Damon with a laugh.
"And you call me a dork?" Damon asked, twirling her and then pulling her flat against his chest.
"Yes, I do. But you're my dork," Elena told him. "I do love you, Damon."
"I love ya, too," Damon grinned down at her and Elena started laughing as their friends came outside to join them, dancing around in the grass while she kicked off her boots and threw her hands up in the air. This was her favorite day on earth and she hoped there would be many more to come.
Three Months Later:
"Elena, wake up!" Kat yelled through her door. Elena shot up in bed, her hair a mess, again. "It's time to go!"
Scrambling out of bed, Elena got ready and then ran down the stairs. "Bye, honey," her mom said as she ran past her, doubled back, hugging her mom, to her mother's surprise, before picking up her bag and box, then heading out the door.
Damon stood, leaning against his car with a huge grin. "Hey, baby," he called, holding out his arms. Elena dropped her things on the lawn and ran to him. "Are you ready to go?" Damon asked, setting her on her feet after a while.
Kat climbed into the backseat, hugging Jules and honking the car horn. "Come on, Lena, let's go!"
Elena flipped her sister off, kissed her boyfriend again and then got into the passenger seat. Damon took the wheel and they headed to school. Forty minutes later, Damon collected her things, carrying them to the little on-campus apartment. "I know it doesn't look like much but—" Elena cut him off.
"It's great," she told him.
Damon grinned. "Welcome to Whitmore." He said and Elena leapt on him, knocking him onto the couch. "Welcome home."
"I'm going to like it here," Elena said, looking around at all the photos of their friends from their various places in the world and the old photos of their days and nights at MF High. She was ready for a new tour of the a new world, and that started on their couch, in their first place together, where they would make a million new memories.
The End (for now…)
Thank you for reading, faving, following and reviewing this story!
ScarletRose: They're happy. For now… Seriously, no matter obstacles that Klaus and Caroline might have to face in any of my stories, they will always find a way.
Peace,
Jessica
