Trina showed up at the Pierson resident, ready to make an impression. She knew that Scotty's uncle was a cop, but knew nothing about his parents. She was nervous, because while she knew she'd make a hell of an impression, she liked Scott. More importantly, he liked her. It was almost unheard of for those to thing to happen at the same time. Trina wanted them to like her.
Then there was the dress. It was beautiful, and walked that fine line between classy and sexy, without stepping over. Trina and Jade were very different body types, but the miracle of modern fashion, along with safety pins, allowed them to share cloths. Trina looked hot. Even Beck would give her an approving look, if 'he could ever get his head out of his..' She stopped her thoughts there. This was her date, her chance to impress, and she wasn't going to let any past crushes get in the way.
Rather than ring the door bell, she'd texted Scott the moment she'd arrived at his address. It served as a confirmation that she was at the right place. Scott's parents were renting a condo, part of a duplex, and while it wasn't that big, the community was nice, with a large lawn and a pool near by. Trina was able to park relatively close, but by the time she reached their door, Scott was waiting.
"Nervous?" He asked.
"Me? Never." Trina replied. "Maybe a little. I hope this goes well."
"Relax. My parents are cool." With that Scott led her into the house, and showed her around. The condo had only 8 rooms, including three smallish bedrooms, a kitchen, living room, a dining area (Kinda it's own room), a hall bathroom, and she was told there was a master bathroom as well. Scott's family was watching her as she was shown around.
Scott's father, Chris, was a big guy, like his kids. He seemed nice enough, and walked with a noticeable limp. Chris seemed okay with Trina, but a tad distant, despite being polite. He didn't bother to dress up just to meet her.
Scott's Mother was a medium sized woman named Bab's. "It's short for Barbara, which is a mouthful." she told Trina. She'd taken the time to wear a dress, and seemed the most interested in Trina.
The last member of the family was Scott's younger brother, Jeff. Jeff was another big guy, but not as tall as Scott. Jeff was thrilled to meet Trina, and made a point of talking to her every chance he could. In Spanish. The kind of Spanish learned in high school, as opposed to anything conversational in Central America. Trina humored him, but quickly got frustrated with his atrocious accent. The boy was only a sophomore, as his poor Spanish showed.
"So Jeff, what with the obsession with Spanish?" She asked, unable to take it any more.
"I'm going to be a professional wrestler." the boy said. "Body building to have the right physique, I'm on my schools wrestling team, and I'm planning on learning some acrobatics to help me out. I'd love to learn some acting, and improve my Spanish, so I can work in Mexico."
"You're going to go to college." Chris said. "I don't care if it's on a football scholarship, or wrestling, but you're going. Not going to college was the biggest mistake of my life."
"Do you know how many professional football players have career ending injuries? It even happens among college players. I'd have a much longer career in wrestling." Jeff said.
"Jeff!" Bab's said. "Sorry about the drama, Trina. Old family problem. You see, my Chris used to play football. He even made it to the pro's."
"I thought you had to be drafted, out of college?" Trina said.
"Not always. Sometimes, they have open tryouts, and so, two years out of high school, I drove to LA to try out for the Raiders. Lasted almost two seasons, until I my leg was hurt. Real bad. They called it a career ending injury, but it was a bit worse for me than some. Got a limp, and put on disability. I take odd jobs as I can, but had to rely on Bab's to bring in the big bucks."
"I'm a nurse, and we met while I was giving him his at home treatments, back when he needed someone to check up on him regularly. It was then that he swept me off my feet." Bab's smiled. Trina tried not to feel too sick at what passed as a romantic story.
"So, Scott told me his uncle's a cop." Trina tried to change the subject.
"That would be my brother." Bab's said. "He still drives a beat, not a fancy detective like your father."
"I saw your show, on the Spanish language channel." Jeff offered.
"Thanks." Trina said. "And I'm proud of my father, and everything he's done for the city and for my family. You understand how hard it is, not knowing if someone you love might not come back."
"Yea." Bab's said.
Trina used that to grab control of the evening. "Chris, I was wondering, you're hoping Scott goes to college, right?"
"Yea?" The patriarchate asked.
"What do you want him to be?" She asked.
"Anything that uses his mind. Having my dream job taken away just as I was starting to play more was a kick in the pants, and I never want my boys to suffer like that. I'd rather he do something sissy, like be a musician, than have his life just taken away like that." Chris focused on Trina. "It's not that I don't like you. I even admire that you know martial arts. It's just, boys change in college, and I want to make sure he doesn't get bogged down before he has a chance at a life. Maybe he'll even talk some sense into his brother."
"Scott and I discussed his desire to be a police officer, and I'm supporting it. But that's not where we're going to be getting our money. I'm going to be a movie star, and a singer, and anything else I can do to be a famous, successful person. I've even overcome my ego, and made an ally of one person I know can make it." Trina smiled, focusing on her argument. "Also, my sister has connections at Neutronium Records. The only reason she doesn't already have a contract is she wants to finish high school first. I've got the contacts, the drive, and I'm working on the skills. Scott can defend the city, I'm going to be the one who pays the bills."
Silence filled the room, and in that tense moment Trina understood the family's drama. Under the cover of the families hospitality was one conflict, a base assumption that dominated the way the boys were raised. Chris was insistent that his boys be able to earn a living, because that's what he was raised to believe the man does. Bab's thought Trina was drawn to her son because he was a large, strong, manly type. Jeff wanted to support his future family in, what to him, was the most manly way, and Scott was intent on becoming a cop and protecting his city, like a man. 'Jade would call this machismo poisoning.' she thought, but that was as negative as she could go. She watched them, as seconds ticked by, until finally someone broke the silence.
"You're a strong woman, Miss Vega." Chris said.
"Yep." Trina replied.
"Please don't hurt my boy." Chris said, a strange seriousness reflected in his eyes.
"Wouldn't dream of it." Trina replied. The tension from before seemed to evaporate. And from there, the rest of the evening went by smoothly, with Trina coming to appreciate where Scott came from, and the family she might be getting involved with.
Across town, Jade was talking Tori to a slightly later dinner with her family. Just like Scotty, Jade was taking Tori to her home. But before the meeting commenced, she had some ground to cover. "So, I was wondering, why did your mother flip out over the chocolate mop?" It wasn't subtle, but Jade had been too soft of late, and wanted to get through this quickly.
A nanosecond later, Jade was glad she'd put the car in park first, as Tori's scream ripped through the air.
"Oh god, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bring back bad..." Jade started, only to have Tori's finger pressing against her lips, silencing her.
"It's not you, or rather it's more that just you. I don't know, I didn't expect anyone to talk about it." Tori heaved, on the verge of tears. "First, let me assure you, nothing immoral happened between me and the janitor. He just likes giving those mops to students he likes. Hell, even Robbie got one. But my parents felt they had to talk to him, to make sure no one was playing anyone."
"So far, he lives." Jade said. She had grabbed Tori's hand, laced their fingers, and was waiting for the rest of the story.
"What? There's nothing else to say about it." Tori said.
"That's not the impression your mother gave." Jade pushed. "And screaming at the mention of a topic doesn't say 'it's nothing.' There is something that, maybe, I need to hear."
"Promise you won't hate me." Tori said.
"I promise." Jade said. 'I hope.'
"I've had two pregnancy scares. Neither turned out to be anything more then just a late period, but both had the potential..." Tori looked down at her shoes.
Jade wrapped her arm around Tori. "You don't need to tell me anything else."
"Oh really?" Tori said, her eyebrow raising. "Why don't I believe you?"
"Cause you know me." Jade said. "But I figure, you'll tell me when you're ready. It's not like we're going to do anything more than light petting before you spill."
"My first was some dude in middle school. He got what he wanted, and I had to sweat out a month before telling my father. THEN I had my period. If I'd just waited one more day.." Tori said. Jade kept her arm around Tori,, holding her, and working hard not imagining hunting this boy down and seeing how deeply her scissors could cut. "Danny was my second, and we broke up after he freaked out about my missing my period. He got lucky I bled, because then I only dumped him. I didn't need his pity. But he was special to me."
"So were there any others. Lovers I mean?" Jade asked.
"One at camp, that's when my parents made me promise to wait at least one hundred days first. I mean, Steven, all he got was a BJ." Tori said.
"You should have bit." Jade replied. Tori made a face. "So I'd be your first girl?"
"There may have been some kissing, in my past, but nothing more than that, and one time we felt each other up." Tori said.
"And who were these girls?" Jade asked.
"Part of the Tori witness protection service. I've given them new identities to protect them from my jealous girlfriend." Tori said.
"But not the guys?" Jade asked.
"After the way Danny dumped Cat, he deserves whatever you do to him, and Steven should want to keep his distance anyways. The others, did you hear any names?" Tori said.
"So how serious are you about sex?' Jade asked.
"I just confessed my sexual history so that I won't have to wait longer to get into your pants." Tori said, shaking off the discomfort of admitting everything to Jade. Of course, Jade seemed to accept it, and things were going far better than she'd hoped for. "I love the way it feels when I can fully please my partner, partner."
"Just one hundred days, from when we started dating." Jade said.
"Or until I can convince you otherwise." Tori told her. "I mean, can you get me pregnant?" Tori asked as she reached towards Jade's crouch. Jade caught her arm long before any touching could happen.
"You'll just have to wait to find out." Jade replied. Then letting go of her girlfriend, Jade got out of the car. "Come on, you're going to meet my mother." Jade told Tori.
"Love to." The Latina said as she got out of the car. "And Jade, this isn't over."
