Chapter 4 What the hell is that thing!?
I followed her down the hole, passing by all the turtles. I held back the urge to kill them. Samus kept getting farther and farther away from me.
"What are you doing here anyway?" I asked her, curious. I hadn't played any of the others besides Fusion, so I really didn't know her reasons for being here.
"I'm here to destroy the thing called Mother Brain," She said simply. Mother Brain? That rang a bell. I heard of that before. Had no clue what the hell it was in the story, just knew that it existed.
"What's it do?" I asked.
"It's the leader of the Space Pirates. That's all that I was told for the mission," She told me. "I only took it because of where it was. They turned this planet, my planet, to their base. I plan on taking it back."
I nodded. I could understand that. If I was in her shoes I might have chosen the mission just for that too. We walked up to another door. Samus shot it open, and we both walked in. As we entered I noticed the place was shaking again.
"Why the hell is the place always shaking?" I questioned.
"Probably some of the wildlife."
"Still this bad."
"Could be worse." We walked through what appeared to be some old ruins, until we hit a lava pocket. I stopped in front of it, staring in. I'd never seen lava this close before. I could feel the heat against my face, but it didn't bother me.
What did bother me, was the bug that came out, that smashed into my chest. I fell backwards, surprised. Samus, fired her arm cannon, hitting the strange bug, killing it instantly.
"Stuff can live in the lava, you know," Samus said. I shook my head.
"As far as I know nothing did in my time."
"Different time, different place." She jumped over the lava. I got up off of the ground, before following her. I was really afraid of going over the lava, but I didn't wanna get left behind. I knew if I fell into the lava, I'd be done for.
Even if the suit protected me, I didn't have a helmet. I would still die.
"Holy shit," I stated, eyes wide, as I saw the three pillars, in the lava. On one of them, appeared to be one of Samus's suit upgrades. Samus, didn't waste any time, she jumped, to the first pillar, then straight to the second, for her upgrade.
Once it was absorbed into her suit, she turned around. "You stay there." I nodded to her, as she jumped across the the other pillar, out of my sight. I sat down, running my hand through my hair. "Who would have thought I'd end up in a game," I mumbled.
It wasn't long before Samus came back to me. "The path is blocked off. It looks like we might be able to get through it later though," She told me.
"Then lets see if we can find another path to go," I said back to her. We started walking back. I jumped over the lava, hoping that a bug wouldn't come out when I did. As I landed, I turned around, only to find that there was one flying at me.
It was hit with a beam from behind, vaporizing it instantly. "Thanks," I stated with a smile. Of course, she couldn't see it though. She jumped across and walked past me.
"Don't get close to the lava," She commanded. I sighed, but followed her. She was my only way off the planet, plus, if I was in a game, since she was the main character, I had the best chance of surviving with her.
We walked back to where a majority of the shaking was, for a giant worm snake thing dropped from the ceiling and going to the ground. It then rose back behind us, going into the ceiling. It then popped its head out right above us.
"What the hell is that thing!?" I yelled out surprised.
"Use your bow," Samus said plainly, as her arm cannon, changed for some reason. She aimed it up, firing a rocket at the worm snake things face.
It closed its eyes, and smashed down where she had been.
"Now!" She commanded. I fired an arrow, at the things eye, right as it opened. It went past the pincer, smashing straight into the eye. It let out a cry, before rising back up to the ceiling. It shot back down, at me this time. I went to dodge, but the thing grabbed my foot, lifted me into the air.
I let out a scream, as it shook me from left to right. My back smashed into the ceiling, I felt pain course through my body. I heard a rocket smash into the creatures face, and I was let go. I crashed to the floor, my body feeling sore all over. I felt myself get rolled, as the creature smashed down where I had been. It went through the ground, and left.
I groaned, as I rolled over, seeing Samus above me. She held up her left hand, holding out three fingers. "How many fingers am I holding up?" She asked.
"Three," I answered.
"Good, you don't have a concussion. Would have slowed us down if you did."
"So you only cared about me slowing you down," I teased.
"Of course," She said with a serious tone. Silence fell between us. I had been joking but apparently she took me serious. "...you good to walk?"
"Maybe," I said, as I got up. My legs were shaky, my back hurt like hell. Other then that, I was fine. "Yea, I'm good to walk."
"Then lets stop wasting time," Samus stated. She walked to the door, with me following her slowly. My legs hurt slightly, but it wasn't to painful. Would have been far worse if I hadn't had my suit on. We quickly climbed up the path, and found ourselves in front of a red door.
"This door wouldn't open when I tried it," I told her.
"Rockets open it according to the document that was installed as well when I got the rockets," She said to me. She fired a rocket at the red door. It flew open.
"That works," I mumbled, as I walked into the room. I looked around, seeing the rock ceiling..and the fucking lava all over the floor. "Okay, what the hell is up with this place and lava!" I yelled out angerly.
I could have sworn I heard Samus laugh at that, but I wasn't sure. There were tons of bug things that were flying around, and for once guess what? I didn't get hit! I chopped on in half, as I rushed through the room, with Samus behind me. We jumped from rock to rock, killing the bugs as they followed. They seemed to come in infinite numbers.
Samus shot over me, hitting the door. We ran into the next room, seeing only a door in front of us. I sliced the next room open, and rushed into the next room, with Samus behind me. There was a path going up and one across the ground.
"I'll go up you stay down," Samus said, as she jumped up the first platform. I did as she said, and walked across the ground, till I got to a wall. I heard Samus fire a lot. A few of the strange bugs flew around me. I sliced them in half, as I walked back.
As I was waiting back below the platform, Samus jumped down in front of me.
"What did your path look like?" She questioned.
"Nothing but a dead end, yours?"
"After killing a few of the bugs nests, I found a door," She told me.
"Your path it is then." I climbed up, and rushed across the other platforms, with Samus, and made it to the door. Samus shot it, opening it. We quickly rushed through the next room, since it was so small. She shot the wall, and it fell apart.
A missile tank fell out, which Samus picked up. We walked a few feet farther, only for the worm snake thing to fall from the ceiling again, trapping us in.
"For fucks sake, what the hell is this damn thing!" I yelled out, angerly. It was really starting to get on my damn nerves. It opened its eye, locking onto us. Samus fired a missile up. It hit it straight in the eye. It dropped down trying to grab her. As soon as it opened its eye, one of my arrows flew into it.
"Die already!" I yelled out as it rose back up. Samus fired another missile at the things eye, and its body exploded. Its eye span out, before turning into what appeared to be another upgrade for Samus, she sure gets a lot doesn't she?
I grabbed a few healing particles, so my suit would be in better condition, while Samus went straight for the upgrade.
She looked up after picking it up, and held her cannon upwards. It looked like energy was building up in it, and she fired it off into the air. It was far bigger then I've seen it before, in person. But I had seen something like that before when I played Fusion.
"Let me guess, Charge Beam?" I asked her. She nodded, before turning back the way we were going. "Follow," She commanded. I sighed, and did as I was told. We jumped from the pillars and Samus picked up what appeared to be a tank upgrade.
We hit two walls, that Samus blasted through. And we also killed a few of the things hanging form the ceiling. Soon, we were past the lava (Thankfully) and at a door. I kicked it, sending it open. We first dropped down a path, seeing the red door.
"Lets make note of this door, and check out the rest of the room," I said.
"Sounds good to me," Samus agreed. We jumped back up, and killed a few more of the turtle things. We found a blue door next. We tried to continue up, but found the next platform out of our reach. We landed back in front of the blue door.
"Blue or red?" I asked her.
"Blue, don't wanna waste a rocket if I don't have too," She told me. She shot a ball of energy at the door, and it opened. There was a platform in front of us, with a door on the other side of it. There also appeared to be a path above us.
Samus shot the three turtles to death, and we climbed up the platform, to explore the room as much as we could. We found another door, that was also blue.
"Which one do you wanna go through?" I asked, yet again.
"The bottom one," Samus said. We went in, finding it to be another rest room. "Lets not rest, just continue."
"Sure," I said. We turned around and left. We rekilled all the turtles, and went to the other door. I dropped down, finding what appeared to be a weak wall. I sliced it, and nothing happened. Samus shot at it, for the same result.
I sighed, as I jumped up, with Samus behind me.
"Great more crawling," I said as I saw the tiny hole that we would have to crawl into.
"Bet you wish you could turn into a ball," Samus teased, as she turned into her ball form, and went through.
"Maybe," I mumbled, as I crawled through. Rolling would be much easier for this. We went through what appeared to be a pipe, before dropping to the ground. We went through the red door, much to Samus displeasure of having to "waste" a rocket. We found another statue, holding an orb, and something hanging on the wall. I walked up to the wall, while she went to the statue. I saw a note on the wall beside what appeared to be a detonator, and gray blocks.
Not fair for her to get all the upgrades right? She's getting an explosive. So you are as well, hope you enjoy the C4. We know your not good with this, so we'll make it easy. The detonator has a string. Connect it to which ever brick you want to explode before pushing the button. Survive, with or without her.
"C4?" I looked over to the detnator, and the gray bricks.
"Bombs?" Samus mumbled. She turned to me. "So we both got explosives." I nodded. She turned into a ball, and went into the hole below the statue. I heard mini explosions, from it. "Follow," She commanded yet again.
I sighed, as I jumped off of the platform, and crawled into the hole. I walked through the hole, and nearly got hit by Samus who was coming down from another path.
"The hell?" I quesitoned.
"Sorry was another path," Samus explained through the transmitter. "Also appears to be nothing else in here.
"So I had to come in here for nothing," I mumbled, as we crawled out. We went back through the door, into the next room. We crawled through the path and found that the door was gray now, and wouldn't open. Samus blew something up, and got swarmed with a bunch of bugs, before I could do anything, she set a bomb, and blew them all up.
"We can continue now," She told me. I looked to the door, seeing it blinking. We both went through the door. I cut the turtles in the room in half, as I walked into the other room. Instead of cutting through the other ones. I dropped some C4 down, and blew them up. I dropped down, with Samus behind me, and we went back into the down path.
We dropped down, killing any of the turtles, as we fell. We stopped in front of the red door.
"Hey can you do me a favor?" Questioned Samus.
"What is it?"
"Try an arrow on the door, so I don't waste a missile." I stared at her for a second, trying to decide if she was joking or not...she wasn't. I sighed as I fired an arrow at it, and it opened. We walked in, seeing something hanging.
Samus plugged it into her, before turning to me. She unplugged it from her, and handed it to me. "Plug your transmitter into it," She told me. I did as I was told. Once it was done making sounds, I put it back into my ear.
I tapped the map button, seeing that it had filled in some of my map. "So it was a map room?" I asked.
"Yea it was."
We exited the room, and started climbing again.
Little did we know what kind of adventure we were in for.
