Elisha's P.O.V

My eyes open and I automatically think about training today.

"Elisha!" Bronte calls. "Get up, it's time for breakfast!"

"Ugh…!" I groan into my pillow. I don't wanna get up yet...

"Elisha?" Effie asks. "Are you even awake yet?"

"Yeah, yeah, I'm up…" I reply, yawning.

I don't want to have to do this. It's my first time in luxury and I really just want to enjoy it for the short amount of time I have left to live.

I put on a loose grey t-shirt and a black pair of shorts and I walk into the dining room.

Wow. There's so much food! About 10 different types of toast, egg cooked 5 or 6 different ways and lots of bacon. Bacon, for crying out loud!

I'm not one of the few people in our district with money, so meat is an absolute rarity, reserved only for when an unfortunate groosling wanders though the apple orchard my family and I work in.

I pile my plate up with a ton of bacon and toast, although, after the abomination they gave us on the train, I'm not taking any chances with the egg.

"What is it with you and food, Elisha?" Tiana asks, glancing down at my plate.

I turn around and face her.

"I have no idea," I reply. "I can just never get enough of it."

"I think you might have a high metabolism."

"A high ma-what?" What the hell is that?

"It's what happens when you digest food faster than most people, so it's quite difficult for you to gain weight by eating," Zandra says, appearing from nowhere.

"So, what you're saying is that I'm more likely to die of starvation?" I ask, raising my eyebrows and smirking.

Zandra looks away slightly. Ha, I just out-scienced her! Wait...

"So you mean that I'm probably gonna die earlier?"

Tiana nods slowly. I pause.

"Okay," I reply, shrugging and putting some bacon in my mouth. The looks on both of their faces says that what I said wasn't what they expected.

"That just means I'll have to either die saving Jodie and Jordan, eat food pretty regularly, or just win really quickly," I say brightly, smiling at them. Zandra looks at me like I'm an idiot and Tiana smirks.

"I like you, kid," she says.

Then, Bronte struts in saying, "Time for training!" I see she still looks as ridiculous as ever...

"It's that time already? That was fast," Luca says, walking in from the hallway.

I quickly finish all my bacon, then I grab much toast as I can hold.

I've still got 3 pieces of toast when we get into the lift, so Luca steals one. I glare at him, my mouth still full. He smirks at me and takes a bite of my toast. He's just asking to be hit...

The little bell goes off when we reach the training area, which is about where a basement should be. The doors open and I see 8 pairs of tributes, already sitting down on the floor, in wait for the rest of us.

Everyone's talking so loudly that they don't even notice our entrance.

I walk in and sit next to Jodie and Luca goes to sit with Jodie's partner, Kevin, and a few others, who are probably Careers.

"Oh, hi Elisha," she says.

"Hey," I reply. "How come you guys are here so early? The start of training is in five minutes.

"You have no idea; our group was actually the first lot here... I've been sitting here for about half an hour. It was really boring without you or Jordan."

We sit quietly for a minute or so before I see something.

"Hey, look up there," I say, pointing to a small alcove in the side of the wall. "They're the Gamemakers, right?"

"Yeah, they're the people who judge our performance in training. Athena told us already."

"Who's Athena?" I ask, confused.

"She's the head trainer person. She just introduced us to everything and then disappeared. She probably hangs out with the Gamemakers or something."

"Hey guys!"

"Holy shit, Jordan, you scared the crap out of me!" I shout. Jordan has appeared next to us, out of practically nowhere.

"Well no one noticed that we came in, so…"

"That's 'cause it was too noisy," I say. "Now, going off topic, what are you guys going to do first?"

"Easy," Jordan says. "I'm gonna go to the edible plants station. We don't have many types of plants, seeing as the animals mainly eat grass. I'll definitely need to know which plants I can eat and the ones I can't."

"I'm not sure what I'll do first," I say. "I suppose I'll just attack a dummy with my fists or a blade or something like that…"

"Cool..." Jodie says.

I notice Blaze staring at me.

"Yeah, I'll probably go to the edible plants station too. We don't have many in 12 either," Jodie says.

"Uh… Okay sure, you do that," I reply, not really paying attention. Why is he looking at me...?

"Elisha, what are you staring at?" Jordan asks me.

"Nothing!" I reply quickly, looking away.

She looks over to where I was looking and sees Blaze quickly turning his own head away.

"Huh," she says, frowning. "Well, while you hang out with the spy and Jodie and I will do something actually beneficial for the alliance."

"Um, okay..." I say, confused. Spy?

"Okay!" Athena, our training instructor, calls out over the noise

Everyone falls silent. "Now that everyone's here, we can start the training!"

She goes on about how many people die of eating the wrong foods and stuff like that, so we shouldn't all run straight for the weapons, and instead look at the survival techniques.

"So on 3, I'll let you go," she says. "1… 2… 3!"

All the careers run to the weapons, as I expected. Jordan, Jodie and the rest of the tributes get up and go over to the edible plants station and I head over to the knife station.

And Blaze follows me.
