~ Memory ~
"Papa! Papa!" a boy called as he ran to his father with a small watch in his hand. A man whom seemed six feet tall, auburn hair like the boy, well built, not like the boy. Well firm and understandable (Sometimes). Turned to the boy. "Henry! What is it?" He questioned as the boy hugged him. "Papa, I want to buy this watch for mama," The boy replied showing his father the watch. Henry's father sighed, "Alright Henry. We can get the watch."
"Stop thief!" cried a village officer. Henry dropped the watch as a boy ran past him, bumping him in the shoulder. The boy was tall, fair pale skin, and chocolate brown spiked hair. Henry couldn't see the boy's eyes. The kid was running to fast. Henry picked up the watch and went with his father on their way.
"Mama! Mama!" Henry shouted as he and his father got closer to their house. A woman whom was getting the laundry from the clothes line turned and smiled as Henry ran into her arms. "How was the market?" She questioned as she looked up at her husband whom sighed. "I got you something Mama," Henry said excitedly. "Really? Let's see it." Henry was slow as he pulled out the watch which rested attached to a gold chain. Henry saw the light in his mother's eyes as she held it in her hands and opened it.
"Oh Henry. Gratci. Thank you my dear." She said as she hugged Henry tight. Henry was happy that his mother was happy. Though, that happiness didn't last long.
~ Two years later ~
"Mama, Papa!" Henry called as he ran through his small one story house which was burning down around him. "Mama-" Henry gasped as he saw the flames surround the room in large chunks. Sparks spattered from the falling wood. He was scared. He couldn't move. Suddenly, a piece of weak, well burnt wood fell on top of Henry, cause of the large amount of pressure. And darkness surrounded him. Though, the last thing he saw was the pocket watch which he gave his mom two years earlier.
Henry woke up a few days later and saw a boy with beautiful smoky chocolate brown eyes. Stroking his pale fingers through his auburn brunette hair. "Your awake," the boy said as he walked from the bed where Henry laid. To a bowl of water with a cloth. "Where am I?" Henry questioned as he tried to sit up. "Please. Try not to move much," The other boy said as he damped Henry's burning head with the cool water, "My uncle and I heard about the fire. We went to see what was wrong and we saw the house burning to the ground. My uncle went inside to find any survivors and when he came out. You were in his arms unconscious. At first we were sure you were dead. Yet, I could see that you were breathing and so, we brought you here to our house."
"Thank you," Henry replied as the boy handed him a cup of icy cool water. "If you don't mind," The boy said tugging on the covers, "I need to rub your legs." Henry was confused as to what he meant, but obliged. The boy pulled back on the covers to reveal a seriously burnt right leg. Yet, a stub of a left leg. "My leg," Henry all but yelled out. He felt cold tears stream down his face. "Where's my Mama?!" He cried, "Where is my Papa?!" "Shh. Calm down. Your dad is fine, just badly burnt and bruised." "My mama?" The boy sighed as he turned to give Henry a sad look. "I'm so sorry," He said, "She's gone."
"No," Henry shook his head and the tears splattered onto the sheets,"No. no. no. no. no. no. NO!" Just like that. Everything that was once precious to young Henry's heart. Seeped away like a vortex in space. Taking the special memories with it. ~
~ Present Day ~
The school bell rang and Jackson sprinted out the classroom door. He caught up to Rapunzel and Flynn in the lunch room. "So. What new thoughts are roaming in that head of yours today Jackson?" Rapunzel questioned as the trio sat down. "Ideas for Hiccup's birthday present." He replied. "I don't know Jack. That's tricky," Flynn said, "Almost nothing impresses Hiccup these days." Jackson sighed, "I've noticed." He looked down at his food as he started poking at the chicken Alfredo noodles.
Suddenly the trio heard a loud slam of a lunch tray which was placed next to Jackson. "That dim-witted basterd!" It was Merida. "What happened now?" Rapunzel questioned. "It's Marcus! He's cheatin' on me with Cameron Springs! And I saw 'em kiss! It was disgustin!" As if on cue, so-said 'Marcus' came up to the table with a begging voice. "Come on Meri!" He pleaded, "I told you that I'm sorry! Hell! I regretted every second of the kiss." "Ye didn' seem t' regret it." "Well I do!" He said as he slammed his hand on the table. Merida stood up and slapped him across the face so hard that it left a nasty bruise. It made Jackson and the other two jump at first. Yet there was one rule which they described their redheaded friend by and that was, "Never break Merida's heart or she'll stand over your grave, bitch."
"JUS' PISS OFF! YE BASTARD!" Merida then ran out of the lunch room in tears and Marcus ran after her. The original trio seemed shocked. That was. Unexpected. Jack chuckled, then returned to his noodles. Until Rapunzel all but screamed, "I've got it!" "Got what Punzie?" She showed Jackson her phone and his eyes widened. It was a picture of a watch he seemed to remember. "Their biding off of the watch and I thought you should-" "I'm getting it!" Jack insisted.
It honestly took Jack the rest of the lunch period. Yet, His boyfriend was more important to him at the moment. And he managed to win the watch. At a rather expensive price. But, that happens when your a of the members of one of the most richest families in town. (If we were keeping track, It would be Hiccup's family. Then Jack's. Then Rapunzel's. Merida's and then Flynn's.) So, after school Jack went to pick up the watch and kept it with him till the big day arrived.
~ Two weeks later ~
Everyone gathered at Hiccup and Jack's house. (What? They're boyfriends. Why not?) Hiccup would be coming home from work any minute and every thing was set. Rapunzel had baked the cake and brought it over. Flynn helped Jack by placing up green lanterns. (Don't ask) And Merida kept watch for Hiccup. Soon Merida yelled," Dragon Trainer!" And everyone hid some where in the living room or kitchen of the house. Hiccup walked into the house and sighed.
"Jack." He called," Jack?" There was no reply. Suddenly the lights came on and everyone yelled, "Surprise! Happy Birthday!" Hiccup jumped, "What in Thor's name is wrong with you guys?!" He yelled. "It's your birthday Hiccup," Rapunzel whined. Hiccup sighed, "I know." "Come on Hiccup," Flynn said giving him a one-armed hug, "Show some enthusiasm." "I will if you get off me!" Hiccup pushed Flynn away and ran into Jack whom smiled. "What's wrong?" He questioned, "Do you not like it?" "No. I like it," Hiccup answered, "I just-" "I thin' it's time Hiccup opened his presents!" Merida spoke up. "Okay," Jack agreed.
They all then sat in the living room and Rapunzel presented her present first. "It took me a whole week to paint it," She explained, "hope you like it." Hiccup unwrapped the wide package and he smiled. It was a painting of him sitting on a throne and four night fury dragons surrounding him. A smile was painted onto the artwork's face. "I love it Rapunzel," He said, "Thank you." Rapunzel smiled and said, "I call it, 'Hiccup the Dragon King.' Suits the painting don't ya think?"
Hiccup nodded as Flynn gave him the next present. "I couldn't really decide on what to get you when I saw them," He explained as Hiccup unwrapped the paper. "So, I got you both instead." Hiccup smiled as he held an ebony dragon-like pen and a pair of golden-etched goggles. Perfect for when Hiccup did his wood work. "Their awesome Flynn, thanks!" "Your welcome."
Merida then handed him a box. "I didn' know if you either needed this or a guitar so I got ye this instead," She explained. Hiccup unwrapped the paper and held up a medium sized flute which had etchings of dragon tails wrapping around the base. "Wow!" Hiccup said as he held it closer to the light of the window, "This is amazing! Thanks Meri!" Merida chuckled," Ye're welcome Hiccup. Now it's Jack's turned!"
Jack smiled as he knelt down in front of Hiccup and gave him a light peck on the cheek. "Happy Birthday," He said as he held out a small box. Much smaller then the others. And it was a dark olive green with a gold lining. Hiccup grasped the small box gently and opened it. His eyes widened with the sudden flashback. ~
He was a young boy. Running through the very streets of Burgess with a watch in his hand. "Papa!" He called, "Papa!" The man turned and knelt down, receiving the young lad in his arms. The boy showed the watch to his father and said, "I want to buy this watch for Mama." The man smiled and they went to buy the watch.
The boy's mother was doing the laundry at the house as they arrived home. The boy presented the watch to her and they were happy. Until the fire. The fire seemed to burn everything it could in it's path. Everything. Except the pocket watch which the young boy's mother clutched onto with her very life. And took to her untimely grave. ~
Years later, archeologists found the pocket watch in the very rubble of the burnt down home. With a note that they kept inside. They send it to the Smithsonian, where they bid off the watch and which Jackson was so utterly lucky to get. ~
Sudden tears fill Hiccup's eyes as he opens the watch and the note falls gently onto his lap. With shaky hands he opens the note, passes it to Rapunzel and allows her to read. "My beloved son," She read, "Listen to my final words crystal clear. I am eternally pleased with you. No matter what choices you make in your life. Rest assured that I am always watching over you and love you more then what love a thousand hearts may hold. The pocket watch was beautiful, yes. Yet nothing. Nothing was as beautiful as to seeing that bright smile across your face. Nothing meant more to me then you. My child, are you listening? Cause I have very little time left.
Know this from my voice and my heart, If I had a choice between all the wealth I could ever imagine and you. I would chose you within a second. If I had the choice between the world and you. I would pick you within a blink of a cattle's eye. I would chose you over all those fancy pearls. You over all the fame of the world. I would chose you over everything. You. My son are my most prized, most beloved and most precious treasure. Grow up to be the man I always knew you would be. And don't let your differences shade you away. Don't run away from your troubles. Embrace them.
I love you my son and always have. Keep hope my child. ~ Love, Your mother, Valka Haddock."
Hiccup looked and saw a picture of his mother at one side of the watch. He smiled. He turned his back to Jack and handed him the watch. Gesturing for his boyfriend to put it around his neck. Once it was secure, Hiccup turned his head to face Jack, smiled and said, "Gratci. Thank you Jack. I love it." Jack smiled as he replied, "I know. Happy Birthday Hiccup." ~
