"Coulson!"
"Huh?" Phil's eyes came back into focus. He turned to the source of the voice and a questioning look fell upon his face.
"Are you alright? You've been out of it ever since we woke up. Listen, I know that robot me tried to kill you, but that's just Radcliffe's programming. I would neve..." before she could finish what she was saying, Melinda May was interrupted.
"Do you love me?"
May glanced at Coulson before lowering her eyes to the ground. How are you supposed to tell your best friend of more than two decades that you're in love with them?
"Of course I do, you're my best friend..."
"That's not what I mean and you know it, Melinda"
May glanced up at Coulson.
"It's a simple yes-no question. Do you love me?" He repeated.
"I..." nervousness washed over May, but before she can complete her sentence, dry lips touched her own. May's eyes widened a little before she relaxed and kissed him back, wrapping her arms around Coulson's neck and pulling him closer. A few moments later, they pulled apart for air. Coulson laid his forehead on hers and sighed.
"This is what robot you stole from us, our first kiss. She got closer to me and made me believe she loved me, made me realize my feelings for you, and by the time I had enough courage to kiss you, it turned out it wasn't you. I was so afraid that your feelings were only Radcliffe's programming, that mine were one sided, that..."
Coulson was cut off by May kissing him. After they broke apart, May spoke.
"Robot me might've stolen our first kiss, but she hasn't stolen our feelings. It doesn't matter if our first kiss was stolen, it's only a kiss. What matters is that we're together now"
Coulson sighed and pulled her into a hug, "I love you"
"I..."
"You don't have to say it. I know."
May smiled and hid her face in his nape, "thank you"
"I love you"
