Chapter Twenty Eight: Just Hurry the Hell Up!

Alex and Tamsin carried the trunk Freya had left them with the contents from their parents.

"So any idea what we should be expecting when we open this thing up?" Alex asked as she crossed her arms and examined the trunk before them.

"No clue…" Tamsin said as she walked over and held a beer out for her sister, while she cracked her own open, "But there's only one way to figure it out. Wanna see what shit is in here?"

"Not like we have anything better to do while we wait for the dynamic duo" Alex said with a shrug as she took a sip from her beer and put it down on the table beside them.

Alex and Tamsin both squatted down and carefully opened the trunk in front of them.

"Woah…" Alex said as her eyes searched the many contents that lay before them.

"Dude… We are going to need more booze…" Tamsin said with her eyes wide open.

Back in Kenzi's Dawning, she and Bo were now seated at the table with Kenzi's parents and Alex as Tamsin paraded around serving everyone fine wine. Kenzi's parents had gushed over how proud they were of their daughter for finally finding someone who suited her and that they were so excited about the wedding, the decorations, the guest list that seemed to scroll on forever.

"Right well moms as beast as the food is, I was wondering if I could have some alone time with the wifey and maid of horror here?" Kenzi said as everyone was finishing up their meals.

"Of course dear… Is there something wrong?" Kenzi's mother asked as she wiped her mouth.

"Darling, I'm sure they just want to discuss the wedding without us micromanaging, come, let's give them some privacy. Kenzi dear could you come talk to me in my study when you're done. There's something I would like to give you" Kenzi's father said as he leaned over, kissing the top of her head gently.

"Sure thing pops" Kenzi said as she grinned and watched her parents leave the room.

"So what's up? Why the sudden need for privacy? Not that I mind, your mom is driving me fucking insane with all the wedding talk" Alex said as she leaned back and took another sip of her wine.

"Okay Alex, this is serious, I need you to tell us everything you remember about your Dawning…" Kenzi said as she looked over to her girlfriend.

"Kenz, we already went over this…" Alex said as she sighed.

"Alex, I know you probably think we are insane for asking all this but it's really important" Bo said as she looked to Kenzi.

"You do realize you're both weird as hell right now, right?" Alex said as she rolled her eyes.

"Please babe, this is like life or death status right now…" Kenzi said as she gave her best puppy eyes.

"Alright, but listen closely because I'm only telling you this shit once. Got it?" Alex said as she clenched her jaw.

"Got it" Bo said as she smiled sweetly.

"Do any of you need a refill?" Tamsin asked as she paraded around the room, making sure to flaunt herself in front of Bo.

"No we're good dude" Kenzi said as she gave a weird look to the blonde.

"Are you sure there is nothing I can do for any of you?" Tamsin asked, keeping her eyes on Bo.

"No, we're fine" Bo said as she smiled sweetly.

"Well if you change your mind, I'll be in the kitchen…" Tamsin said as she gave a wink and left the room.

"Bo Bo?" Kenzi asked as she raised an eyebrow.

"Long story, I'll fill you in later" Bo said as she rolled her eyes.

"Alright so can we get this talk over with? You have to go speak to your dad babe" Alex said as she crossed her arms.

"Yeah, go ahead Alex…" Kenzi said as she reached over and held the blonde's hand.

"Okay, well in my Dawning… I was thrown into this perfect life shit where everything was literally like a dream come true. My parents were there and totally not dead and psychotic, Tamsin was there… I don't know it's hard to remember the specifics because it's been centuries…" Alex said as Kenzi cut her off.

"CENTURIES?!" Kenzi said in shock.

"Do you want the rest of the story?" Alex said as she smirked to her fiancé.

"Sorry, yesssss… I just… I have never really asked how old you are" Kenzi said with a giggle.

"Well ask me later slick and I'll tell you" Alex said with a wink.

"Okay back to the story, time crunch here…" Bo said with a laugh.

"Well I remember it was literally this amazing world that I didn't want to leave. I went in by myself. I didn't want Tamsin coming in case I failed. Plus in Valhalla you learn to be independent. But something wasn't right and I could tell so mo matter how great everything seemed it was weird. I thought that it was the Dawning drawing me in. After awhile of just sitting back and going with the scenario the Dawning kicked me out into this like hell version of life. The whole objection to your Dawning is facing who you are and what you choose to be in the fae world. Can you live in a world with power, can you find happiness, can you tell when life isn't what it should be, and can you live up to all that is inside you… You know, it tests you on all that inner self shit. But it is different for everyone. Sometimes you get a perfect world scenario you have to sort out, sometimes it gives you a version of hell, sometimes it's just a fucked up place that makes no sense. You have to figure out why you're there and when you do, it kicks you into something else that will test you in a new way. Everything happens in the Dawning for a reason. I went to a personal hell because in my life everything that scared me were things that made me powerful and angry, therefore pumping up my power. So for me it was all about good vs. evil shit. I just remember the key to me passing my Dawning was learning it was okay to be evil and embrace the bad image that came with being a fire fae. I had to realize that being an Ember wasn't just starting fire to watch shit burn, but it was about the beauty of the flames. It's going to be different for you Kenz, especially with you not being born fae, you have to figure out why you're in the places you are. The key is to not let the situations draw you in, to distract you. Fight like hell and don't trust anything. Just try to think about why you are where you are and what can come from it. You'll figure out why it is testing you in time. Just be quick, observant, and determined. My Dawning was shit. I went to like 4 different locations. Was captured, drowned, given a personal heaven, then sent to hell all to figure out my shit. You gotta figure out yours" Alex said as she squeezed Kenzi's hand. "But you've got time to train babe. It tests your powers to a certain extent but the Dawning is all mental"

"Yeah… I think I get it now…" Kenzi said as she looked away from Alex and towards the hall where her father's study was. "I'll be right back guys…" Kenzi said as she got up and walked down the hall. It was like a realization overcame her. Her father being in her Dawning… In THIS scenario… That had to be why this was her moment. This had to be the key for her first scenario. Her father had died before Kenzi was old enough to talk to him about so many things and now with everything going on in her life, the one person she wanted around was her father. Her mother was a grade A bitch and her step dad was an abusive asshole, but her dad, her REAL dad was a great man.

"Where's she going now?" Alex asked as she raised an eyebrow.

"I think she's going to talk to her dad…" Bo said as she gave a sadden smile.

"That makes sense… She needs him right now. I know the wedding has her freaked. But you know who she needs more than anyone?" Alex said as she leaned back in her chair and grabbed her wine.

"Who's that?" Bo asked as she turned and looked to the blonde.

"You…" Alex said as she tipped the wine glass back.

"We're best friends Alex, she's like my sister. We're always going to need each other" Bo said with a slight laugh and smile.

"You really don't see how much that girl adores you, do you?" Alex said with a laugh.

"What do you mean?" Bo said as she raised an eyebrow.

"Well I told Kenzi I wouldn't have this talk with you, but I feel like since we have a moment Succubus, it's time we talk" Alex said as she stood up, grabbing the bottle of wine and heading over towards the hall to the living room. "You coming?" Alex called over her shoulder.

Bo was completely confused, but got up and followed the blonde to hear what she had to say.

In Valhalla Alex and Tamsin were still staring at the opened trunk.

"Tams…" Alex said as she looked over to her sister. "What is this shit?"

"I think it's mom and dad's stuff… You know like their life treasures…" Tamsin said as she huffed out a laugh. "I would have never guessed they would have kept these things or that they even owned half this shit…"

"I know right… So should we like go through it?" Alex said as she raised an eyebrow.

"Hell yeah" Tamsin said as she looked at her sister.

"Age before beauty…" Alex said as she nodded towards the trunk.

"What, scared it's cursed or something?" Tamsin said as she laughed.

"Uhm you heard what our parents were like… This shit could like blow up" Alex said as she threw her hands up in a defensive position.

Tamsin rolled her eyes and then slowly reached in, pulling out what looked to be a photo album and diary. She handed the diary to Alex and took the photo album in her hands as the two sisters sat on the ground and leaned their backs against the couch, unsure of what they were about to find out about their past. With beers sitting beside them and the lights on in their Valhalla home, the girls started to flip through the pages of their parents memories.
