Chapter Thirty One: Can We Be Done?
Kenzi was leaned back against the couch with a very hungry Succubus straddled on top of her as they made out. Kenzi could feel the chi leaving her body with every passionate kiss, but the charm racing through her blood fueled her desire for more, but Kenzi knew that this was just a hungry Bo and although a Succuubs, it wasn't her Ember back home.
"Slow down there killer" Kenzi said breathlessly as she gently pushed Bo away.
"Oh my gosh Kenz! I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" Bo said as she leaned away and covered her mouth.
"Yeah mama I'm just… Whew… That's no joke! How the fae does Tammers handle all that feeding?!" Kenzi said as she shook her head trying to get rid of the daze.
"She's a badass Valkyrie" Bo said with a grin as she thought on her wife.
"Yes well I'm not her and if you want to get that sexy Succubus ass back to her ya need to scoot off of me" Kenzi said as she laughed.
"Okay okay…" Bo said with a chuckle as she flopped on the other side of the couch.
"God, do you think Tams and Alex are going to flip their shit when they hear about this?" Kenzi said as she giggled.
"Oh my gosh yes… They'll probably even do their little nose scrunch in unison" Bo said as she laughed.
Kenzi laughed along with Bo but it wasn't long before her mind drifted back to the blonde that had stolen her heart. Everything about Alex captivated her. For the first time in her life she found someone who pushed her to be a better person, someone who didn't take her bullshit and stupid moments. Someone who even from the beginning didn't make her feel like some weak human.
"You really love her don't you Kenz?" Bo said as she glanced to her best friend who was frowning.
"Yeah… I do Bo Bo…" Kenzi said with a half smile.
"I'm sorry if I pushed you too far with the whole dying needing to feed Succubus on your lap scenario" Bo said with a frown as she used her elbow to nudge her best friend.
"No! Oh my goodness Bo Bo it isn't that at all! Trust me, I love my Succu-babe kisses but… It's just.." Kenzi said as she racked her brain for the right words.
"But you love her so much that you just wish more than anything you were back with her…" Bo said as she thought about Tamsin and their baby.
"Yeah… It's like no matter how crazy that girl drives me I just wish that I was with her… We didn't exactly leave on the best of terms…" Kenzi said with a frown as she thought back to her argument with Alex.
"What happened with you two?" Bo asked as she looked to Kenzi. The young Ember was clearly stressed beyond belief. Although Bo and Tamsin left on sad terms, she knew that her and her wife would work things out, but for Kenzi and Alex starting off in a relationship that was new and had already been through so much it had to be difficult.
"We argued over the Dawning…" Kenzi said as she rolled her eyes.
"Well I got that but what exactly happened Kenz?" Bo said as she grabbed a blanket from the coffee table and covered them both up. Bo knew that although the dawning was a tight schedule, in the end Kenzi would have to face her fears and that could all be tied in with her love for the older Ember.
"I mean… I guess I kinda decided to go into this without talking to her… Obviously she was upset about it. I walked out of the Dal and found her blowing shit up in the ally and she told me that she was scared for me to do this because she didn't want to lose me after she got her memories back.." Kenzi said as she covered herself up with the blanket.
"And…" Bo said as she encouraged her bestie to continue.
"And I guess I could kinda see her point. I mean I tried to make a joke about the Dawning and I knew it was serious… But she naturally, got pissed about it… I didn't get why she was being a bithc but after I saw her in the ally way blowing up the dumpsters and finally got her to talk to me I guess I could see why she would be so upset. I mean it's life or death and she did just get her memories back.. But she literally went off without me and got herself killed…" Kenzi said in frustration.
"Yeah but where are you right now?" Bo said with a slight grin as she chuckled.
"I'm in a life or death test that could have me get offed before I marry the bitch" Kenzi said as she rolled her eyes.
"Mhmm… And how were you feeling when the rolls were reversed?" Bo asked as she raised an eyebrow.
"I was pissed, scared, frustrated… I hated her for choosing my life and happiness over her own… I was more upset that we could be ending our relationship before it even started…" Kenzi said as the realization of Bo's tactics hit her. "You're a bitch.. You know that right?"
"I know.. But maybe you understand why Alex was being such an ass before you left…" Bo said as she shrugged.
"I hate it when you're right…" Kenzi growled as she looked at Bo.
"I know, but you can't deny that it makes sense. You understand Alex more now than you ever have. I mean think about it… You get her more…" Bo said with a shrug.
"I really do… You know what she said before we left?" Kenzi asked with a chuckle.
"What's that?" Bo asked as she looked at Kenzi.
"She said that I was the girl she wanted to spend the rest of her life with… She pretty much told me that she wanted to marry me…" Kenzi said with a laugh as she covered her face with her hands.
"WHAT?!" Bo asked in shock as she whipped her body around to her best friend.
"Yeah.. Alex of all people said she wanted to settle down and be with me, yes me, for the rest of her life" Kenzi said as she moved one of her hands to reveal her icy blue eyes.
"And why am I just hearing about this now?!" Bo said with a grin.
"Because I was in shock and I mean hello, we kinda had my Dawning to deal with" Kenzi said with a laugh, "And I mean I don't want to read too much in to it with Alex, you know how those girls get"
"Yeah but I mean this is ALEX we are talking about… Her mentioning settling down, that's a big deal Kenz…" Bo said as she reached over and grabbed Kenzi's hand.
"I know… But it's not like we got to talk about it with me being zapped here…" Kenzi said as she flopped her head back on the couch.
"Well, then we better get back home… Because you have a love life to plan…" Bo said with a smile.
"Yeah but don't think that gets you off the hook Succubus, what about you and Tammers, how was my Lil' T about you coming here with me?" Kenzi asked as she raised an eyebrow to the Succubus.
"Well…" Bo said with a nervous chuckle as she looked to her best friend.
"Dude Tamsin, are you seeing this shit?!" Alex said as she rummaged through the contents of the trunk.
"What the hell is all this? There is no way that all of this was mom and dads!" Tamsin said as she held up blades in her hands.
"Dude… Mom and dad had some serious weapons" Alex said with a laugh as she held up a dagger in her hand with a gorgeous flame engraved on the handle.
"I think it was their shit from before they went all cray" Tamsin said as she pulled out a belt from the trunk that had flames engraved in the leather. The Valkyrie knew that her sister was struggling with her powers and where they had come from, but in the end, Alex was an Ember. She may have had her brother's powers, but Alex was nothing like their father. The blonde was good, and no matter what, Tamsin was determined to show her sister that.
"Yeah… It's insane to think that they were something other than Valhalla attacking ass hats…" Alex said as she flipped through the pictures in the second album.
"Yeah… I mean no matter what though, it's who we are… Who we come from. Good or bad…These are the people we get our powers from. You do know that being an Ember doesn't make you dad right?" Tamsin asked. In all of their years together with Tamsin raising Alex, this was something that had never been said.
"I… Damn sis…" Alex said as she looked towards the Valkyrie with a shocked face.
"Sorry, I know that was some deep shit that hasn't been said but I mean it's true. Alex, you being an Ember doesn't make you dad. You DO know that right?" Tamsin said as she frowned her brow and looked to her younger sister.
"Yeah… I know.." Alex said with a half smile as she smirked to her sister.
"Alex.. Don't bullshit me.." Tamsin said as she looked towards her baby sister with concern.
"T… It's easy for you to say that. You're the Valkyrie of the family… We've what, been just you and I growing up together and you raising me for how many centuries and we have NEVER talked about this before? Let's be real for a second.. You're a Valkyrie, a race that was bred for great warriors. You inherited all of mom's gifts, and yeah she may have fucked up going along with dad and his crazy plan but let's face it. You got mom's powers and I got dad's… Dad who mind you, was a crazy asshole for like all of our lives and tried to kill everyone. I got those powers… So not matter what you say, let's look at our family tree, I got dad's genes, which doesn't exactly appeal to the public eye…" Alex said with a laugh as she sipped her beer.
"You may have the gift to overpower fire, but being the type of fae you are doesn't make you the person he was…" Tamsin said as she gripped her sister's hand. "Being like dad and accepting his powers doesn't make you bad. No matter how strong and tempting that urge is to let go to the darkness, you're more than your species sis… If there is anything that Bo and Kenzi has taught us, it's that…"
"Yeah but think about it, when people hear Valkyrie they tend to run the hell away because you're a badass warrior and they respect you, when people hear Ember they run because we are seen as the evil of all nature and ready to kill anyone with fire. Pretty much I'm a human torch who is ready to light anyone ablaze and you're a Nordic goddess sis, that's who we are…" Alex said as she finished her beer.
"Alex…" Tamsin said as she finished her beer and tossed it aside.
"Yeah?" Alex said as she turned from the fridge with a beer for herself and one for her sister.
"You know that you aren't dad and that being able to control fire doesn't mean you'll set the world on fire right? You aren't him and you never will be…" Tamsin said as she stood to her feet to meet her sister at eye level.
"Right…" Alex said as she chuckled.
"Tell me sis… What makes you feel human, makes you feel good… As in good person, not the dirty slut way" Tamsin said as she scrunched her nose.
"I don't know… Kenz?" Alex said as she rolled her eyes.
"Exactly, and why does she make you want to be good?" Tamsin asked as she nudged her sister.
"I don't know… I mean she challenges me, pushes me to be a better person, she makes me laugh all the time, granted usually I'm laughing AT her.. She's Kenzi, she's everything I've ever wanted and more than I ever thought I deserved, but she makes me feel worthy of something" Alex said with a smile.
"Exactly… You think dad ever thought like that? Sure he may have loved mom in the beginning but he lost himself and didn't have people in his life to keep his ass in line like you do. Sorry kid but you have me and Bo plus if you're going to be an aunt you have to be somewhat sane cause if you and Kenzi are going to be the god parents I need to make sure I'm not gonna have a little devil running around" Tamsin said with a laugh as she and Alex smiled.
"I promise, I'll behave" Alex said as she drank her beer, "So enough about me… How are you doing with Bo being gone… and the baby?"
Tamsin took a minute and drank her beer before answering. Thinking hard about what she was going to say. "Honestly, I'm doing better than I thought I would with it, but not gonna lie, I'm terrified. I love Bo so much… Like I didn't even think it was possible to care about someone the way that I do for her. When I first met her it was like everything in my life shifted. Granted the whole first part of us interacting was the Morrigan setting me up to throw her cute little ass in jail.. But still.. I knew I couldn't do that. She's the most infuriating woman I have ever met. She's wild, independent, strong willed, and totally unpredictable. Everything about her captivates me. I love her more and more every single day and not having her here with me is tearing me apart. I seriously didn't think that I could care about her any more and then she tells me that we are having a baby. A baby that seemed impossible… A baby I never thought could exist. A Valkyrie and Succubus child… I mean sure it's terrifying not knowing what kinda powers the kid will have but I still can't believe that someone like me with such a past of destruction could have something so small and wonderful about to come into my life. Without Bo here… It's like a piece of my heart is missing. I know the bond connects us but ever since she found out she was pregnant it's like everything has intensified… I can almost smell her perfume right now…" Tamsin said as she closed her eyes. "It's like I can feel how much she misses me, how even though she probably isn't showing it with Kenzi there, she's scared they'll fail…"
"Wow… Damn T… That's deep…" Alex said as she frowned and looked to her sister. "But if you can still sense all that with her being in a totally different realm that says a lot about how strong you two are… And it also lets you know that they are alive…"
"Yeah… I can't tell if it's a blessing or a curse sensing she's alright because I know the moment that I can't sense her my heart is going to drop…" Tamsin said as she gave a teary eyed laugh.
"I never thought about it like that…" Alex said as she glanced over to her sister and linked their arms together, "But right now you don't need to think like that. You and I are young, hot, and happily in relationships with badasses, and together we are going to totally fuck Odin's world up if he doesn't back the hell off of our family. So while the girls are kicking ass in the Dawning, you and I are going to sit here and drink all the beer Valhalla has to offer and figure out what we are going to do about Odin using the shit mom and dad left us… Ready?"
"Let's get this shit started" Tamsin said as she sighed and picked up more journals from the trunk her parents left them.
"Tamsin and I fixed things… Well I think we did… I mean obviously she was pissed about me volunteering to come with you, but you know Tam, she knows how much you mean to me so she said she knew I was going, but that letting me go wasn't easy no matter what, but she knew I was not going to let you do this alone. I think it's just hard for her because I know how much she cares and how new all of this is. I feel like she has come such a long way from the detective that tried to lock me up, but she still struggles sometimes in figuring out how to handle her emotions. I know the thought of me leaving was hard for her, and then to be pregnant and have to let me and the baby leave on this ate her up inside. She's strong and she's a warrior, but I think for her to be vulnerable is just something that shuts her down.. She did surprise me when she said that she would love me through this and no matter what she loved me and supported me, but we both know Tamsin…" Bo said with a laugh.
"Oh don't we… She'll love you and support you but not a single part of her little Valkyrie ass is happy about this" Kenzi said as she chuckled.
"Yeah… I just hope she is okay right now.. She's stressed and worried.. The bond, it's weird, it's like I can still feel her with me. It's comforting, but I know she's taking on the world and everything inside her is shaken with Odin's plans. I just worry about her Kenz… I miss her… A lot…" Bo sighed as she felt tears well up. "I'm having a baby with the most incredible woman out there and then I up and leave her in Valhalla…"
"Yeah, but we are going to go back to them, and when we do you'll have tons of Tammers time and you know that between me, you, Alex, AND Tamsin, there isn't anyone, fae or human, who is going to mess with our little ass kicker. You guys know that Alex and I will fight and keep you all safe" Kenzi said as she put her head on Bo's shoulder.
"I know… That's why I love you so much" Bo said as she squeezed Kenzi's hand.
"Well, now that we had our heart filled moment, let's get up and go see what else this Dawning has planned for us because I want to get the hell out of here and see my pyro girlfriend and interrogate her about the wedding hints that little bitch was dropping!" Kenzi said as she sprang to her feet.
"Right behind you baby fae" Bo said with a smile as she stood up. The two headed to the door and opened it, seeing the feet upon feet of snow piled up in front of the door. "You wanna take care of this hot hands?"
"It'll be my pleasure" Kenzi said with a mock bow as she walked foreword and stuck out her hands to send heat towards the snow, smiling as she saw it begin to melt away right before her eyes. As the snow melted away, the two women started walking out in the freezing winter air, shocked by the way it took the breath from their lungs.
"Shit it's cold…" Bo said as her teeth clattered uncontrollably.
"Dude I'm a fire fae and I'm freezing… I can't even imagine how cold you are Succu-bitch…" Kenzi said as she shivered.
"At least you have the ability to heat your body up… I can seduce people and get amped up from sex but warming my body up… Not a trait I thought I would ever be dying to have…" Bo said as she shivered and continued through the snow path she was creating.
"It's not all it's cracked up to be… I now get why Alex was so serious about me learning to heat up in cold weather and quick.. It's like the colder it gets the more drained I feel…" Kenzi said as she started to breath rapidly.
"I know Kenz… But you have to get hot and fast. If you get too cold right now out in this and get hurt you won't heal. So come on baby fae… Use your abilities and heat your ass up. At least one of us will be warm" Bo said as she laughed and smacked Kenzi's ass, causing the younger girl to jump and squeal.
"I'm trying, I'm trying… It's harder than I thought… Focusing on melting the snow and controlling my body temp… It's all so hard to regulate. I don't know how Alex does it…" Kenzi said as she closed her eyes and stopped walking.
"She had decades to practice… You got the shit end of the deal with that, but I know you can do this Kenz. Come on, it's dangerous for you to get cold. We have no idea what's out here and what you have to fight… I wouldn't have come with you if I didn't think you could do this so just take a minute and focus.." Bo said as she shivered beside her bestie.
"You're right, and I know… Ugh why couldn't we go somewhere tropical?!" Kenzi groaned as she tried to focus on her body temp and warming herself up. Kenzi tried her hardest to focus on everything that she had learned in the past few weeks. Everything Alex had said, the training with Trick and Acacia, the influences of Bo and Tamsin. After taking a moment to steady her breathing, Kenzi opened her eyes to reveal a bright fiery red.
"Boom bitches! Another point to the Kenzi! Up top Bo Bo…" Kenzi said as she turned around to high five her bestie, but to Kenzi's surprise the Succubus was nowhere to be found. "Bo? BO!" Kenzi yelled as she spun around in circles, frantically searching for Bo. "Oh no, so not good! Shit shit shit bitches on a fucking stick.. Okay think Kenzi.. Think…"
Kenzi cringed and whined, but now she really was in this all on her own. Kenzi continued to melt away the snow that was in front of her and kept walking forward, unsure of what she was going to find ahead of her. As she approached the end of the forrest, Kenzi fell forward, the snow that was built up in front of her in a wall was gone. Kenzi quickly stood to her feet and looked around. She remembered where she was right now. The sights all around her were ones she could never forget. She was back at the Wanderer's tundra where she had seen Alex fall into the water and Tamsin dive in to save her. This was the first time she had ever thrown a fire ball.
As Kenzi walked out into the open snow covered field, she stopped when she saw a hooded figure standing out on the open sheet of ice where the two blonde's had fallen through.
"Hey there slick… You might want to get off the ice…" Kenzi yelled as she gave a nervous chuckle and wave to the mysterious figure.
"You can't save me… No one can…" The figure said as they pulled back the hood to reveal Tamsin standing there.
"TAMSIN!" Kenzi yelled as she continued towards the blonde.
Kenzi walked until she was only feet away from the Valkyrie when a voice from behind her caused her to spin and look.
"You can't save us Kenzi…" Alex said as she looked to the young Ember emotionless. "Not until you learn to save yourself.."
"What the hell does that mean?" Kenzi asked as she gave a confused face to the blonde.
"It means you need to learn how to fight alone. You can't save us and we can't always save you. You can't rely on us all the time. Sometimes it's going to be you fighting alone…" Bo said as she quietly walked towards the group. Kenzi knew that this wasn't her Bo. The way that Tamsin, Alex and Bo looked right now… So emotionless as they stood before her. Something wasn't right.
"Bo? I don't get what you're saying…" Kenzi said as she raised an eyebrow.
Bo looked at Kenzi with eyes that were empty. The Succubus looked down at the ice and then back up to Kenzi.
"I can't give you all the answers. You need to figure this out alone…" Bo said as she brought her foot up in the air and slammed it down on the ice, causing it to crack.
"BO!" Kenzi screamed as she looked down. Before she could react, the ice cracked and Kenzi plummeted into the freezing waters below her.
