Chapter Thirty Two: Kenzi's Survival

As Kenzi collapsed into the frozen waters beneath the water, she felt the air leave her lungs as the freezing sensation stabbed her skin. Kenzi was fighting to swim back towards the surface, but no matter how hard she fought the water, she felt herself being pulled deeper into the darkness below. The pain from the freezing cold water was unbelievable. Every second that she was submerged it was like having her body pricked and sliced by knives. There was no way for her to gain any air, her clothes felt as though they were weighing her down. Panic… That was all Kenzi felt in this moment.

As she fought against the water and tried to swim upward, it all proved to be futile. Nothing was working. Kenzi felt her chest tightening and her lungs burned from holding her breath as she frantically attempted to swim.

Hope was far gone in this moment. Drowning in the freezing waters. How does this happen? An Ember drowning in freezing waters… After being sent there by a version of herself.

Bo came stumbling out of the woods and out to the same scene that instantly jogged her memory. The Succubus knew exactly where she was and what happened here.

"What the hell…" Bo thought as she looked all around her. "One minute I'm talking to Kenzi, and the next I'm alone in the damn woods… Where the hell-" Bo said aloud as she continued to search her surroundings, but stopped when she saw the shattered hole in the middle of the lake, "Kenzi…" Bo said breathlessly as she instantly took off to the shattered ice.

Approaching the hole in the ice, Bo slid to her knees and started smacking the water as she screamed Kenzi's name over and over.

Kenzi could see the water far above her splashing, and could faintly hear her name from the surface. She was exhausted… There was no fight left in her body. Her arms and legs ached. Her lungs burned. She couldn't go on anymore. She stopped swimming and drifted in the water as she gave up and accepted the reality that this was the end. She was about to die.

As she stopped fighting and closed her eyes, Kenzi thought about everyone she was leaving and how all she wanted right now was to tell Alex, Bo and Tamsin goodbye.

I'll never get to meet my god baby… I'll never get to be an aunt… I'll never get to be there for Bo Bo and Tammers when they have to try to fight Odin… I'll never get to marry Alex… God that girl and I never seem to get the timing right. She gets her memories back and I get myself into this mess… This is going to crush her. She gave me these awesome kick ass powers and what do I do with them? Nothing… I'm an Ember… Apparently my dad was one… I'm a damn fire fae and I'm about to die in freezing water…

Kenzi thought as she began to feel herself slip away.

"Damnit Kenzi! NO! Come on babe!" Bo cried out as she continued to search the water in front of her. She hadn't seen her best friend had fall into the water, but there was something inside Bo that pulled her there. Deep down Bo knew Kenzi had fallen in. The more time that passed, the more the Succubus cried out.

Suddenly, Kenzi's eyes slammed open and beamed red. I'm an Ember… I'm a fire fae… Hell fucking yes! Kenzi thought as she grinned. Using the last bit of strength she possessed, Kenzi let out a powerful scream under the water as she thrusted her arms outward releasing her red flames from her arms, relishing the sensation as the fire traveled throughout her entire body.

As the fire started to erupt from her and the water bubbled around Kenzi. It was like a spark was now ignited in the young Ember. The fire pulsing through her gave her a new found desire to fight towards the surface. As she reached up, she could feel the ice over her head and quickly pressed her hands against the sheet blocking her from the surface.

Bo heard sizzling several feet to her right and immediately turned and dove towards the ice and began beating heavily against it.

"KENZI! KENZI! COME ON BABE!" Bo screamed as she punched at the ice. With a final blow it shattered against her hands and that combined with the heat from the bubbling water that showed, caused the area to melt away more.

Kenzi shot out from the water and gasped as the breath finally came to her after being submerged.

Bo quickly reached down and grabbed ahold of Kenzi's jacket and yanked her from the water where they both fell back onto the ice gasping.

"Thanks… Bo Bo…" Kenzi panted as she put her hand over her head.

"Anytime…" Bo said as she reached over and grabbed Kenzi's free hand and held it as the two started to chuckle. "Thought I lost you…" Bo said as she looked over to her best friend.

"You came close to it…" Kenzi said as she continued to breath heavily, "But don't worry skank face, I'm here to stay… I'm here… To fight…" Kenzi said as she looked over to Bo.

"You're amazing Kenz" Bo said as she pulled the small Russian over to her and held her tight.

"Thanks bestie…" Kenzi said as she hugged the Succubus tightly.

"What the hell happened?" Bo asked as she refused to let go of her best friend.

"I learned that I'm not always going to have you there to save me, that sometimes… Sometimes I need to get my shit together and fight myself to get out of trouble… But I also know you'll always be there for me" Kenzi said as she sniffled.

"You don't always need me, but if you do, I'm here. You aren't weak Kenz. With or without powers, there is nothing about you that makes you weak.." Bo said as she squeezed Kenzi tightly.

"I think I know that now.." Kenzi said with a light laugh as she squeezed Bo back and closed her eyes.

In that moment it felt as though the ground shifted below them. Bo and Kenzi opened their eyes and were blinded by the light that was now shining over them, but what was more shocking was the fact they both saw two very familiar blonde's standing over them staring at them with their jaw's dropped.

"Bo?" Tamsin said as she gawked to her wife laying soaking wet on the floor of their cabin.

"Kenzi?!" Alex said as she huffed out a laugh and raised her eyebrows.

"Ahhhhhhh!" Kenzi squealed as she pulled Alex down on top of her, hugging her girlfriend with all her might.

"TAMSIN!" Bo yelled as she sprung forward, tackling the Valkyrie backwards on to the floor of the cabin.

"Miss me much Succulette?" Tamsin asked with a giggle as she hugged Bo and kissed the top of her head.

"Is it really you? Like this isn't a joke right?" Bo asked as she breathed in the familiar scent of her Valkyrie.

"Who else would it be ass hat?" Tamsin said as she pulled her face back so she could look into Bo's eyes. Tamsin saw the worry, the love, and the sheer amount that the Succubus missed her beaming from the hazel eyes. "It's really me babe… You're back…. You're here…" Tamsin whispered as Bo lunged forward kissing Tamsin with everything she had.

Bo pulled a small amount of chi from the Valkyrie and stopped as she pulled back with a wide grin, "Oh thank God it really is you!" Bo said as she brought her hands up and cupped Tamsin's cheeks.

Tamsin raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"Long story, I'll explain later…" Bo said as she pulled the blonde back in to her for another passionate kiss.

"Kenzi… Why are you soaking wet?" Alex said with a laugh as she wrapped her arms tightly around Kenzi's waist as they rolled over on the floor.

"It's a super crazy story that I will gladly tell you about after you bring those hot lips to me baby" Kenzi said with a chuckle as Alex quickly obliged and leaned in so she could capture Kenzi with a kiss.

"You passed babe…" Alex murmured as she kissed the small Russian.

"Told you I'd be coming back to see what your ass meant about marrying me one day" Kenzi murmured back as she smiled and kissed the blonde passionately.
