Chapter 12
After calling Fornell and informed him about the joint investigation, Gibbs and Fornell was in their usual conference room, talking about the case and maybe about their ex-wife from hell as well.
In the elevator room…
"How the hell did we all get in to this mess again?!" Fornell complained and handed Gibbs a piece of gum, which he accepted. "I swear someone up there is trying to punish me or something"
"Well if you keep swearing they might just have to" Gibbs pulled a joke. As to answer his joke, Fornell gave him his version of the Gibbs-stare.
"Bet Jenny's having the time of her life with this one, knowing that Diane's working with ya, you know considering what you guys went through when you and Diane were still married" Fornell pointed out.
"Oh, believe me; Jen's having fun with this. I don't know what tortures me the most, Jen and mines relationship problems or me working with Diane again" Gibbs frowned.
"Can we just stop saying Diane's name; it's been too much of that in the past minute or so…" Fornell continued to complain.
"You've only been in the same building as her for less than five minutes and already complaining Fornell? Wow!" Gibbs chuckled.
"Not funny Jethro. Let's just see which one of us survives the day" Fornell challenged him.
"Yea, we'll see about that" Gibbs responded back at him and the elevator door opened.
As the both gentlemen was walking towards the bullpen where the others were, Diane immediately spotted them exchanging glares.
"What have you two been doing in there, we have an actual case going on here!" Diane said.
"We were talking about something important" Fornell responded back.
"Important huh? Don't act like you two don't know what's going on, I know what you were talking about, ever since I divorced Tobias here, both of you have been closer than before." Diane glared at them, making the two ex-husbands stunned by her words. They both wanted to say something but, no words came out of their mouths. And of course Tony saw that.
"She put you in your place there huh boss" Tony chuckled.
Both Gibbs and Fornell gave him a hated glare, making him stop laughing. "Don't you have a case to work on DiNutso?" Fornell asked him with a deep voice.
"Yea he does!" Gibbs followed.
"Umm I think I better go now, sorry boss" Tony said and headed to his desk, still with Fornell and Gibbs' glare on him.
"Boss!" Everybody looked at the direction of McGee. "I got Claire Monroe's address".
"Kay let's go!" Gibbs said, and his team was about to grab their gear, when Fornell stopped them with their words.
"Gibbs aren't you forgetting something?" Gibbs looked confused at him. "She's a federal agent, we need a warrant" Fornell pointed out and Gibbs rolled his eyes with annoyance.
"He knew that Tobias, he just chose to ignore the fact" Diane said and put her hands on her hip.
"No, he just didn't want to disturb the director" Tony chuckled.
Gibbs gave Tony the glare for telling everyone that. "Shutting up now boss"
"Well Jethro, isn't it another excuse for seeing the other woman?" Diane said sarcastically
"You two, come with me" Gibbs signaled to Fornell and Diane to follow him. And the three of them headed up the stairs and to the director's office.
Cynthia's section…
"Agent Gibbs, she doesn't want to be disturbed at the moment!" Cynthia said as the three of them walked past her.
"Important case!" Gibbs said like he didn't care and opened the door to Jen's office.
Director Shepard's office…
"I'll make sure my assistant squeezes you in some time during next" Cleary Director Shepard was in an important phone call. "I have to go now David, clearly my employee doesn't know the word 'wait'" She said with annoyance and hung up the phone with heavy hands.
"You clearly don't understand it! It doesn't matter how many times I tell you this, you just choose to ignore the matter! It doesn't work that way special agent Gibbs!" She practically yelled at him.
"Can we just take this conversation another time?" Gibbs asked.
"No! Because it won't be another conversation like this anymore!" She continues to yell at him, ignoring the other two standing beside him.
"Jen!" Gibbs yelled back at her and pointed at both Diane and Fornell, making her aware of their existence.
"Fine we'll continue this conversation another time" She quietly said to Gibbs. "Now what's so important?" She asked them.
"We need a warrant for Claire Monroe" Fornell broke the tension between Jethro and Jenny.
"Who's that?" Jenny asked.
"An FBI agent. She has a connection between our two victims" Fornell continued.
"Shouldn't you be talking to your director about this Fornell? Since she's one of yours" Jenny looked at them with questioning eyes. When no one didn't seem to want to answer her easy question, she kinda figured out what's going on. "I see… I'm still doing the hard work for you gentlemen" She picked up her cell and started dialing numbers. "David! Hello, I need a huge favor from you. Need a warrant for a case! It's an FBI agent, Claire Monroe" Even though She was on the phone with somebody else, but her eyes were on Leroy Jethro Gibbs, glaring at him. "Thank you David, you're a saint. Lunch is on me for the next two weeks" Jenny smiled and hung up the phone.
Seeing Jenny smiley and talking to a male 'friend' made Jethro jealous. He gave her the glare and Jenny saw it but decided to ignore it.
"There! Your warrant should be ready in 30 minutes. It's not that hard to get a god damn warrant!" She growls.
"Well no, not when you're kissing asses!" Gibbs replied. Jenny face turned red with anger.
"You got your damn warrant, now get the hell out of my office, I have work to do!" She ordered them.
Everyone left the office, except for Gibbs.
Jenny looked up at him with an irritating look on her face. "Shouldn't you be heading out like the rest of them?!" She angrily said to him.
He slammed both his hands on her desk, looked deeply in her green eyes. "You're asking for it Jen" Was all he said with a whispering voice.
Jenny stood up, her face a little closer to his, both of her hands also on her desk. "Asking for what exactly, special agent Gibbs?" She challenged him.
But before Gibbs could reply her, Fornell came in the door. "Gibbs!" He said, noticing the sexual tension between the two lovebirds. Their faces inches from each other and it looked like Gibbs would just slam her on the desk and take her right there, not caring what would happened. "We got our warrant…" Fornell continued to talk, to make sure that they both heard him.
They kept starring at each other. They both also heard Fornell, but still kept their positions.
"I believe you have a job to fulfill Agent Gibbs!" Jenny pointed out. And with that said, Gibbs turned his head slowly and met Fornell. Once they were out of the door Fornell started to laugh.
"Looked like you were ready to throttle her right there Jethro!"
"I swear that woman drives me insane sometimes" Jethro said with sexual frustration, and Fornell could hear that in the tone of his voice.
"Control your urges Gibbs!" Fornell playfully said to him.
"With that woman? Can't, even if I want to" Jethro sighed. And Fornell laughed at him.
At the bottom of the stairs they met with Diane. "Is she the future ex-wife number four Jethro?" Diane said sarcastically.
"Wouldn't you wanna know" Fornell answered instead and rolled his eyes. And with that they followed him back to the squad room.
Diane rolled her eyes at the both of them. Jethro saw that and starting to get pissed at her. "She can't be worse than you!" He snapped. Diane's mouth dropped on the floor. She couldn't believe that her ex-husband would say something like that about his mistress, or his ex-mistress, but still, Diane didn't like it.
"McGee, DiNozzo! With me!" Gibbs shouted for them over his shoulder. "Ziva you stay here with agent Sterling to find out more about these three" He ordered her and she nodded.
"Why do I have stay here?!" She questioned them.
"I don't want you to go there, in case she's dangerous" Gibbs answered, Fornell, standing behind Gibbs, couldn't believe his ears, what did Gibbs just say to their evil ex-wife?!
Diane flushed a little by his words. She stepped a little closer to him. "So you do care for me Jethro" She said playfully.
Unknown to them, Jenny was standing on the balcony, saw and heard everything. And of course the others saw her, except for Jethro.
Tony looked up at Jenny and saw her frustration. "Oh oh! Our fearless leader is about to have it" Tony said behind Gibbs Back, to Ziva and McGee.
"She's beyond pissed at him" McGee replied.
"Yupp! I do not want to be Gibbs when they have that conversation later" Ziva commented and the three of them shakes their heads at the same time.
Gibbs, without answering Diane's playfully comment,was about to turn on his heela and walk away to the elevator, caught Jenny's eyes up at the balcony. They looked at each other, Jenny with fire in her eyes and Jethro with an innocent look in his. Jenny broke the eye contact and walked in to MTAC. And with that, Gibbs sighed and headed to inside the elevator.
Inside the elevator…
"What the hell was that about?!" Fornell shoves him in the arm.
"Do you really want Diane with us, on the field, nagging on us on how were gonna do our jobs, and where there is guns?"
"Guess not…" Was all Fornell had to say.
"Thought so" Gibbs said and sighed with the thought of Jenny's reaction back in the squad room with Diane. Fornell heard Gibbs frustration.
"What now?" He asked.
"Jen saw, and I'm gonna be on the receiving end of it when we have 'THE TALK'" Jethro growls.
Fornell laughed along with Tony and McGee, which they shut their mouth as soon as Gibbs turned around.
"Sorry boss" Both of them replied at the same time and in the same tone of voice.
"Come on Gibbs, you have to admit, it is kinda funny" Fornell laughed.
"Can we just stay focus on the case and not on my private life here" He growled.
Back in the squad room…
Ziva was sitting in front of her computer and searching for anything important about the victims and the suspect. Diane was on the other end.
"Did you find anything?" Ziva asked her.
"No, not yet" She replied.
Diane waited for a while before asking another question. "So…did Jethro ever talk about me?" She hesitated a little with that question.
Ziva didn't really want to answer her question, because her Diane wasn't gonna want to hear what she has to say.
"Eeh….sure" Ziva replied instead. Technically she was telling her the truth, just not the whole truth. Gibbs talked about Diane, but not in the way Diane hoped for.
Then Ziva heard her sighing. "It's not gonna last you know" Diane said.
"What is not going to last?" Ziva asked with confusion.
Diane pointed at the direction of the director's office. "Him and her"
"You are referring to Gibbs and the director. Yes?" Ziva asked and she nodded. "Well, they are taking it slow and are working a few things out, I say they will make it" Ziva said with confident. But Diane didn't seem to improve any of that.
"As their friend of course you'll take her side" Diane exclaimed.
Ziva didn't say anything, she just kept working. And when Diane didn't get an answer from her, she went back to her desk and started to taping her keyboard.
Outside of special agent Claire Monroe's house…
As the four agents arrived at their destination, they got out of the car and headed towards the main door of the house of special agent Claire Monroe.
"Nice house!" Tony pointed out.
"Why? You want one Tony?" Tim said, teasing him a little.
"I'm just saying it's a nice house McGeek"
"Sounded like you were saying more than just it was a nice house…"
"Alright! Enough of the nice house thingy!" Tony exclaimed.
"Just messing with ya Tony" McGee pointed out. It was really surprising for Tony, because Tim rarely makes messing around with him.
"Would you two just shut the hell up!" Both Fornell and Gibbs starred at them. "We're here to work, not buying a god damn house from the 1960's!" Gibbs said.
"How did you know it's from nine…" Before Tony could finish that sentence Gibbs interrupted him with a glare to shut up: "Of course you do boss, sorry!" Tony says quietly and turns to Tim, who he just smiles at him for getting the glare from Gibbs.
When the playtime was over and done with, Fornell knocked on the door. "Special agent Monroe, this is special agent Fornell, open the door!" Fornell called for her, it was dark at the house, even though it was still daylight. He knocked once again, but there was still no answer from the other side.
"Maybe she's not home…" McGee says.
"No…she's home alright" Gibbs replies back, his right hand on his hips, grapping the gun, when the other two agents saw that, they did the same thing.
"What do you see Gibbs?" Fornell asks him as they took position, Gibbs on one side and Fornell on the other one. DiNozzo and McGee went in to the back of the house.
"She's caring a riffle" As soon as Gibbs said that, the door slowly opened and the head of the gun reached out. Gibbs nods at Fornell to make a move. Fornell kicks the door opening wide, which reveals the special agent they were looking for.
"Get back or I'll shoot!" She yells at them, holding her riffle against the two agents in front of her. McGee and DiNozzo came from behind just a few seconds later.
"Put the riffle down agent Monroe!" Fornell talks to her.
"Did the bitch send you?!" She asks with a loud voice.
"No one send us" Gibbs says, with his gun drawn. "I'm special agent Gibbs, NCIS, This is Fornell, FBI, and that's my team" He explains to her and it seems like she calmed herself down.
"I wanna see your badges!" She asks for them and both Gibbs and Fornell shows her the badges. She put down her gun
"You need to come with us Claire" Fornell says and she nodded in agreement.
Back in the NCIS building…
Jenny was walking out of her office, heading down the stairs for a lunch break. She spotted Diane and Ziva working. She didn't plan on talking to her, let alone look at her. But she couldn't resist but to just take a look at what she was doing.
As Jenny was about to walk pass the bullpen, Diane stops her with her words. "Heading out Director Shepard?"
Jenny turns around; Ziva looks up from her computer, expecting the worse of everything. "Yes agent Sterling, as other people, I have to eat, it's lunch time" Jenny replies
"Oh so you are human after all. Thought that you were an ice queen or something" Diane says, Jenny narrows her eyes at her. Ziva didn't know what to do; she was just sitting there, rolling her thumbs, hoping that Gibbs and the others were here soon.
"Why is that?!" Jenny says with a demanding voice.
"Well considering your past history, thought you were a cold hearted woman who just happened to sleep with other's husbands" Diane replies harshly. Jenny took step closer. Ziva was now standing up, preparing for what was going to happen.
"I'm gonna say this once and only once Diane. I. DID. NOT. SLEEP. With Jethro back then, he was tired of you hanging around, nagging on him all the time!" She says with a demanding tone of voice. "I can't help that Jethro got so tired of you that he turned to me for help" the last thing she said with a grin. Diane didn't have a chance to reply back at her, she was interrupted by the elevator sound and Gibbs and the others were back.
Gibbs saw Jenny and Diane standing in front of each other; the space between them was filled with anger. He met Diane's eyes and gave her the glare. He approaches them closer and closer.
"Director Shepard, need anything?" He asks gently, trying to figure out what was going on.
Jenny didn't reply. Gibbs took a look at Diane but she didn't want to catch his eyes. So Jethro grabbed Jenny's wrist, leading her towards the elevator.
As they were gone, Fornell steps closer to Diane. "Can't you just give her a break Diane?"
"Her?! Not gonna happen" She answers back and turn on her heels, heading back to her computer.
Inside the elevator…
"Let go of me Gibbs!" Jenny says.
"Jen calm down!"
Jenny narrows her eyes at him. "Calm down?! Calm down?! You seriously want me to calm down after today's event?!" She pauses, taking a deep breath. "Like I didn't have enough problems already, you have to bring your ex-wife in to this mess!"
"Me? How's that my fault?"
"Jethro can I just complain here! I just had a hell of a morning, just me let it all out!" She frowns and took another deep breath.
"You ok now?" He asks her, touching her face gently.
"No!" She answers quickly. "As long as 'she' is out there I'm not gonna be able to be calm today. Besides…I'm worrying about us as well" She sighs. She sounded tired when she talked, and Gibbs could hear that in her voice.
"Come here!" He says and took her in his embrace. Jenny, in her lover's arm was feeling warmth and comfort. "You can handle Diane" Jethro says with confident. She looks up and gave him a hell of a glare.
"Of course I can handle Diane!" She snaps. "Haven't you been listening at all?!" She narrows her eyes at him. "Your ex-wife is not the biggest problem here. I'm more worried about what's gonna happen if something else comes between us"
"Didn't we say, we'll handle this when it comes?" Gibbs says playfully to her ears and he felt her nodding her head in agreement.
Outside the elevator…
"What could they possibly be talking about! If we hurry up, maybe we could wrap up this investigation at the end of the day" Diane snaps.
"Would you just calm the heck down, they're working things out" Fornell complains. Diane glares over to him. Tony, Ziva and McGee just look at each other in amusement.
"Can't believe Fornell and Gibbs were married to her for years. Look at how much she complains?!" Tony whispers to both Ziva and McGee.
"Tony, you wouldn't stand a day with her as your wife" McGee laughs quietly.
"He would not be married with anyone for a day…" Ziva follows up. Tony stares at her.
"Why is that ms. David" Tony challenges her and now they stood face to face with each other, along with McGee in between them.
"Tony, you are a…" She pauses. "You know, when a single man dates a lot of women!" She tries to explain. Despite the many years she's been living in America, she still hasn't learned all the idioms and modern words yet.
"You mean a bachelor?" McGee asks her with a smile.
"Yes! A bachelor! Thank you McGee"
"A bachelor? I'm not bachelor!" Tony says, trying to defend himself and they narrows their eyes at him. "Okay so maybe I am! But I can still get married someday, with the right woman!" He says, trying to convince them.
"Of course you can Tony" Tim says sarcastically and Tony caught that.
"I heard sarcasm in that sentence Tim" Tony says and both Ziva and McGee returns to their desks giggling.
"You guys are being so mean" He frowns, watching them let out a small and quiet laugh at him.
Back inside the elevator…
Gibbs and Jenny were still in each other's arms. "You should probably get back to the others, I can hear Diane complaining all the way over here" She says and was about to push him out of the elevator when Gibbs pulls her with him, leaving the elevator door half opened.
"You're leaving with a kiss goodbye?" He pouts. She narrows her eyes at him.
"You're looking for a booty call Agent Gibbs?" She says purrs at him.
He smiled at leaned over and gave her a passionated kiss, which she gave in, no doubt!
With the elevator door half opened, they just revealed their passionated kiss for the whole squad room, including Diane and the others.
"Talking my ass" Diane hisses quietly as a respond to what her eyes just caught.
"Looks like he's off the hook" Fornell says and Diane turns to glare at him.
With Gibbs one hand holding up the elevator, he could place his other hand on her hips. Jenny, aware of their audience broke away from their kiss. Their faces were inches from each other.
"Jethro we just officially revealed our relationships to the whole squad room" She says awkwardly.
But Gibbs didn't care. He thought he was a good thing they whole building know about them. Now they could stop looking at her and flirting with her. At least now they officially know that she was his.
"You smells good" He says, smelling her face.
"Gibbs stop it! Learn to control your urges!" She says to him.
"Aaah hell Jen, it's been days!" He complains.
Jenny just smiles. "I'll see you tonight Jethro" She purrs in his ears and give him a quick but steamy kiss on the mouth before pushing him out of the elevator and closes it, leaving a sexual frustrated Gibbs.
"Oh you're begging for it woman!" He growls.
"Ooh someone's getting lucky tonight" Fornell says playfully to Gibbs' left ear.
Jethro jumps at the sound of his voice. "Tobias! How long have you been standing there?!"
Fornell laughs. "Doesn't matter, but what matter is that our ex-wife over there is about to have it. Let me tell ya Jethro, she isn't happy about you two cuddling in work" Fornell chuckles.
"Yea, what else is new…" Gibbs growls and they starts to walk over to the others.
The picture comes later on, revealing who's on it in maybe the next or the chapter after that.
