Unbreak My Heart
Chapter 13
A/N
Hey guys! It was way too long ago…I really didn't abandoned this story, just don't know what's gotten into me lately. But I promise I'll try to update much sooner certainly don't want to lose any of my readers ;)
Thank you everyone for sticking with me so far and thank you for taking your time and reviewed, it was nice to read that you still liked this story.
Here's a long one and hope you'll like it…Happy reading!
Gibbs' house 1930 hours…
Gibbs was lying down on his couch after a tired week with Diane. Last week was a nightmare, it wasn't good for anyone. Well, except for Jenny of course who'd loved every minute of Gibbs' suffering moments with Diane? Gibbs was about to drift off to sleep when he heard the front door opening hoping it was Jen.
"Gibbs! Where the hell are you at?" Fornell shouted out for him.
"No need to shout Tobias I'm right here!" Gibbs shouted back at him. Fornell chuckled at the sight of Gibbs lying on his couch exhausted, with his face in the pillow.
"Getting old Jethro?" He teased. "What's wrong with ya? Come on I brought Chinese" Fornell poked on him to get up.
The two friends sat on the couch eating take outs, chatting with each other. "Just went to Diane's today" Fornell confessed.
"And I need to know this because..?" Gibbs raised his eyebrows. Both stopped eating, looking and starring at each other.
"Thought that, that's what we do, you know, being friends and all" Fornell awkwardly explained.
"Oh…so we've reached that phase…"
"Guess so…" They both sat there rather awkwardly looking up at each other from time to time.
"It's getting awkward…"
"Yea let's not do it again" Fornell finished his sentence and they went back to being un-awkward again, which suits them so very well.
After eating dinner, they sat on the couch drinking lots of bears. "Anything on tonight…" Fornell asked. While sitting beside Gibbs drinking his bear.
"Don't know…" And before he could speak any further, he heard the front door opening.
"Jethro?" She called for him. When she went further into the house, she noticed Fornell was sitting next to him and a lot of bears on the table. "I see you boys have been busy tonight, should I come by later" She teased, but yet she was serious.
Fornell chuckled. "No need Jenny, Jethro was about to call you anyway" Gibbs gave his friend a big glare, he just lied to her.
Jenny snorted. "I'm sure he was. That why you left your phone on your desk Jethro?" She playfully asked him, still with that serious look on her face.
"Can't help you with this one Gibbs, see ya" He whispered to him.
"Good night Tobias"
"Jenny" And with that Fornell went out of the door and shut it behind him.
"Now that were alone…you wanna tell me why you've been avoiding me today? At first I thought it was about Diane…"
"Still wanna know about the picture your keeping with ya" He confessed. Ever since their third appointment with Dr. Handsome, all he wanted from her was to know about her secret. It's all Jethro's been talking about for the last two appointments they were there. The first time he brought it up; he walked out, without giving her a chance to speak. And now this third appointment, it was more of a discussion. They talked it over and agreed that Jenny would tell him when she was ready. Well rather, she and the doctor agreed on that, it was two against one and Jethro just gave up. If he was not going to get it out of her at the therapy, he'll find a way to it on his own terms.
"I thought we agreed I was gonna tell you when I was ready to?"
"How long will that be Jen, a week, month…year?"
"I don't have the answer to that yet, all I know is… now is not the time" She paused and then continued again. "I guess now that he's locked up, I suppose I could tell you soon" She stood up in front of him while he was sitting down, still with a bear in his hand. She gave him back his phone. "Don't forget it next time" She said sarcastically. "Don't think I'll pick it up for you if you do" She was talking in riddles and he knew exactly what she meant by it, he swallowed hard. He definitely didn't want to lose her just because he's being a bastard some times.
"It's about him again?" He raised his voice. "Can't believe this, he's been locked up for weeks yet he stills haunts us. I told you I won't be calm until he's gone, and I mean really Gone!"
"Jethro it was a long time ago, I'm trying to move on from it and yet you're the one who's doing worse than I am" She put both her arms around his neck, kissed his left cheek gently. "I'll tell you okay?"
"You keep postponing it Jen" He said and walked towards the kitchen. She swallowed hard enough for him to hear and looked over his left shoulder.
Jenny knew that she would have to tell him sooner or later, and Jethro was not the kind of person who likes to take stuff later. He rather has it over and done with. But she didn't want to know his reaction to what she was about to tell him, because she knew that it wouldn't be good. She has been keeping this for years, ever since she decided to leave him in Paris. That was one of the reasons why she did what she did, she also knew that it was a stupid decision, but it was right at the time and it spared him from feeling any more pain, especially after she found out about his family, his daughter.
"If I tell you…" She stuttered, choking with emotions. Gibbs with his back still facing her heard what she said, even if he was a few feet away. "If I tell you this..." Finally she looked up and he turned his body around, looking towards her direction, their eyes locked on each other. "Promise me, promise me that you'll not gonna do anything stupid?" She looked at him with emotionally eyes.
Jethro looked at her confusing. "I'll try"
"No, I want you to promise me, say the words and I'll tell right here right now" She said firmly, almost in her Director voice.
Jethro didn't want to promise her anything, because he knew himself too well. This secret that she was about to tell him, it was a big one, and he knew that it would make him look away from her, turn his back on her. But he wants her to tell him, no matter what. He hesitated, but decided to go along with it. "I promise…"
Jenny sighed, sucking her teeth. She motioned for her pocket, pulling out her wallet, opened it and took out 'The Picture', the one that he found in her drawers the first time and the one they've been arguing about ever since. "I was gonna name her Ann, she was a beautiful child, or more correctly, a fetus" She said, tears in her eyes, looking at the picture and rubbing it up and down gently.
Gibbs was now standing right next to her, looking down. Was this baby hers? So many questions were running around his mind.
"I was about two months pregnant, when I found out about it"
"When?" He asked her. He knew it, deep down he knew it.
"Paris…" She said, looking right through his eyes. "Remember when I had to go across the country?" She saw him; she saw how stunned he was. "And when I came back to Paris, to you, I decided to tell you the news that I wanted to keep this baby weather you want it or not I was gonna keep it, no matter what" He saw tears falling down her red cheeks.
"What happened?" He asked, not that love kind voice, but rather firmly and harsh.
"That's where he found me again, after our wedding disaster, he tracked me down. Don't know how, but somehow he did" She said and he knew who she referred to.
"Patrick?" He asked and she nodded firmly. She could hear him grinning his teeth.
"I thought I was safe and far from him. He found me when you flew to Decker for a sitrep, right after our hit. He knew that we were involved and that I was expecting" She paused, took a deep breath and continued. "He was angry at me, at you, at the baby. He said he would kill this baby and you if I didn't disappear from you. I struggled from that decision, didn't know what to do, I wanted to tell you right away, wanted you to save me from him. But I knew he would have caught me anyway…" She trailed off, trying to find her voice to speak.
"Continue Jenny" He said, next to a demanding voice. She looked at him, her eyes filled with forgiveness.
"I said no to him over and over again. He didn't like it…I struggled from him long enough to get away from there, but he caught me and…" She stopped right there. Wiping away her tears and gained herself some control back. She stood up; they were now facing each other, only a foot away. She pulled up her shirt, revealing a cut on her stomach. "He took out a knife and…shut it right through my stomach, right on the spot where he shot me, cold blooded and then he just walked away. Leaving me bleeding out"
Jethro was mortified. The baby, what happened to the baby? He wanted to comfort her, but still wanted her to keep going with her story.
"At the time I arrived at the hospital, they told me I lost the baby, the knife hit right through the fetus…" She stood there and cried, rubbing her stomach up and down. Jenny saw Gibbs hand, he was ready to punch something.
"There was never a plan, I changed it. Originally the plan was to have the baby and move in with you. To have a family. I was hurt, broken and every time I looked at you it reminded me of what happened. I couldn't take it anymore so I decided to leave the last minute"
Jethro felt anger running through his vein. He was ready to go the prison where he was held and shoot him right into his eyes. "I knew there were something wrong with you and you didn't tell me"
"I'm sorry Jethro…" She cried.
"Son of a bitch!" He interrupted her and screamed out from the bottom of his lungs. Then suddenly he grabbed his badge and gun.
Jenny saw that and she knew he couldn't keep his promise. "Jethro please, it was a long time ago, don't do anything stupid, put the gun down, please I beg you" She begged him, but he ignored her and brushed her off.
She heard him shutting the door so she went after him but he was already in his car, driving away in the dark. She stood there outside of his house, tears in her eyes. She fell on her knees and cried out, she felt so weak, couldn't get up. She wanted Jethro with her but he ran off. She was definitely worried now.
Two days later…
"Ziva?" Tony Whispered across the desk, playfully disturbing her with his fully intention. "Ziva?" He tried again. "Ziva?" He called for her a little louder. "Ziver!" This time he almost yelled at her and she jumped up at the sound making him laugh.
"What is it Tony?!" She asked him, rather irritated.
"Nothing just wanted to see your reaction…"
"Don't you have something to do?"
"Already done it" Tony said with confident.
"You have not already finished your work?!" She definitely didn't believe him now.
"Why is that so hard to believe?"
"Well considering how much you've been playing during this time…I have the right to think that you haven't been working at all" She said, then stood up and made her way towards him. Now she was standing right in front of him with both of her hands on his desk, leaning her body over, her face a little closer to his. "Or…did McGee do all your work again?"
"Hey I work, sometimes…can't help that McSmartypants always loses his bets with me"
"McGee should know better…" She said returning to her desk. Tony smiled.
"McGee should know better what?" McGee return to the bullpen, motioned for his desk.
"You should know better than be making bets with Tony…"
McGee sighed rubbing his forehead. "Yea I know….it won't happened again"
"That's what you said the last time McGee, and the time before that and the time before that, and the time before that and…"
"Okay! But this time I mean it Tony!"
"Yea, we'll see about that" Tony said with confident. Then he took a look around and noticed something's missing or rather someone. "Hey, someone seen the boss man today?"
"He should've been back from lunch already. Maybe something came up?" McGee said.
"Or he is just simply late" Ziva shrugged her shoulders.
"Naah, he's never late….he doesn't do late" Tony interrupted.
"Well he is human Tony, sometimes people are late" Ziva argued.
"Well people yea, not Gibbs, everyone else maybe, but not him" Then they heard the elevator door opening and they immediately knew who it was.
"Hey boss, we were just talking about ya"
"Is that so DiNozzo?" Gibbs said, sat down on his desk and took a zip from his coffee.
"Eeeh yea, we were just wondering where you've been, you know since you're never late and all…" Tony chuckled.
Gibbs gave him glare. "Just get back to work DiNozzo"
"Just finished boss" Tony said, smiling proudly of himself.
Gibbs just gave him a nonchalant look along with his devious smile. "Is that so?" Tony nodded proudly again. "Then find something else to do!" He shouted and left the bullpen again.
Tony heard giggles from both of his co-workers.
Director's office…
Gibbs was walking past by Cynthia's desk and was about to open the door to Jen's office when Cynthia stopped him.
"She's not in agent Gibbs"
Gibbs took a look at the time. It was way past lunch time. "It's late, she should've been back from lunch now" He said and was again about to open the door and walk in to the office, when Cynthia stopped him again.
"Well she had a date, it was important!" She said, standing up, was ready to stop him from going in.
Gibbs gave her the glare and frowned, frustrated as hell! She had a date!? What kind of date!? He asked himself these questions that he knew Cynthia didn't have the answers to, only Jen. "She…had a…date?!" He asked the assistant with a rough voice. "What date?!" He continued, stepping a little closer.
Cynthia looked a bit scared when Gibbs stepped closer and closer to her, demanding answers from her, which by the way, she didn't know. She didn't want to interfere in her boss's private life. "I…don't know? I don't exactly keep track of her personal life agent Gibbs"
Gibbs sighed, rubbing his head. "Well you should!" He shot at her. He was angry and frustrated, not with Cynthia, but with Jen. Why didn't she tell him about this 'date'?! Why was she on a date for that matter, they were together now and others knew that. It was not like they had ended things or anything. They just haven't talk to each other propertly since the night Jen told him what really happened in Paris.
"If your appointment is important, she should be back within 30 minutes, she has to be in MTAC at 1400 hours" She said assuring him of that fact. But Gibbs just looked at her, veins popping out of his neck, his face turned pink. Then suddenly he just walked away.
"Just tell her I want to see her!" He shouted over his shoulders.
Down in autopsy 1330 hours…
"Jethro care to have a cup of tea with me?" Ducky asked him politely.
Gibbs just shook his head as his answer.
"Are you feeling alright Jethro?" Jethro didn't have to answer; Ducky knew what it was about. He knew what's been bothering his friend. "Aaah I presume this frustration is about our Jennifer then?" Ducky let out a laugh and again Gibbs didn't answer but then again he didn't have to, Ducky could read him quite well. Not as well as Jenny could, but well.
"I have told the both of you before, both in Paris and a couple of week ago. The both of you are very special peoples. Always want to have it in your own ways. You are both two stubborn human beings. And when two too much stubborn people get together, there is going to be obstacles along the way and the both of you need to cooperate and work together to overcome them, as a team" Ducky ended his wisely words to his friend.
"I just need to talk to her Duck" Gibbs sighed.
"Then what are you waiting for…?" Ducky asked him. And before the both of them knew it, the door opened and in came Jenny wearing a short leather skirt and a pink blouse. She really did look hot. Gibbs just starred at her, looking at her up and down slowly.
"Ducky, I thought you'd be along" She looked at Jethro, caught his eyes. "But I'll come by later then" She started to walk but felt her arm pulled away. Jethro was grapping it, not letting her go. Jenny turned and just narrowed her eyes at him.
Ducky didn't know what to do, he just wanted to make an excuse to let them talk to each other. "I'll just go and check on my tea water…" And with that he left the room, leaving Jenny and Jethro alone in the cold room.
With Ducky gone, Jethro finally let go of her arm.
"Cynthia said you needed to see me, said it was urgent. What is it?"
"Where have you been?" He asked her.
"Lunch break" She said firmly. Jethro just shook his head in disbelief.
"For two hours?"
"It was a long lunch" She narrowed her eyes at him again for questioning her. "What exactly did Cynthia say I was at?" She fold her arms and glared at him.
"Said you went on a date, an important one" He glared at her back.
"I did and it was important" She confirmed.
"What?!" He started to yell at her. Jenny was almost shocked at his reaction. "Why the hell would you do that?!"
"Because I had to!" She shouted back at him. "What is this anyway, why are you questioning me about this?"
"Because!"
"'Because' is not a good enough answer Jethro! What the hell has gotten into you? You're more of a bastard than usual?"
Gibbs couldn't find any words to say to her face, he had them in his mind but decided not to speak up. He threw both of his arms up, covered his head and ran his fingers through his hair roughly.
Jenny was surprised at his reaction. Why would he be angry about going on a date, a meeting with some politicians? She thought it through and finally got it! She looked surprised, opening her mouth, not saying anything just opened them in disbelief.
Jethro looked at her. "What?" He asked her.
"Oh my god! You actually thought I went out on a date?! An actual date?!" She frowned her brows at him, irritated as hell.
"Well yea didn't you?"
"No I didn't. It was a lunch meeting Jethro!" She shot back at him. She growled.
"Then why didn't you say it right away, how was a supposed to know anything?!" He said trying to defend himself from being wrong.
"You're supposed to be trusting me Gibbs!" Now it was her time to be angry. "Just like you were supposed to trust me when I told you about Paris!"
Jethro's face turned softer. He definitely didn't expect to get into this conversation here. It was never on his mind since he heard about her 'date'.
"I told you my darkest secret because you practically demanded to know them. I knew you couldn't keep your promise and I should have known better. It was too soon to tell you" She looked away from him.
Jethro just wanted to hug her tightly, but something stopped him from doing it. These past few weeks, they have been fighting with each other, practically every week. They were in such mood swings. Someday good someday bad.
"Thought we talked about your 'lunch date'"
"It always ends up with the same argument anyway…" Jenny let out a hard and slow breathing, taking in the fresh cool air in the room.
Jethro was angry, angry of what happened to her in Paris, angry at the man responsible for that, angry at her for not telling him sooner and angry at himself for not seeing it, she was his goddamn partner, lover, his equal! He blamed himself for everything; he never could do anything right when it comes to Jenny. The night he disappeared out of the house after she told him about Paris, he never told her where he went and that wasn't his intention either. Jethro knew she was upset and angry with him for turning his back on her once again. This happened way too much and he didn't know how much longer she could keep up with him.
Jenny's house 2100 hours…
Jenny was in the shower, rinsing off everything, she felt dirty. It has been a long and tiring day at work. The warm hot water rinsed down her body lightly. She rubbed her neck; it hurts after sitting on her desk and looking down at case files for hours. She put her palms on the shower wall, putting her head between it and sighed. Suddenly she felt strong arms touching her waist on each side. Jethro came closer and closer until Jen felt his stomach behind her. She didn't even know when he came into her house, did she forgot to lock the door after Noemi left? But then again Jethro could always have picked the lock easily.
He put away her wet hair to one side of her shoulder, rubbing it gently. Jenny shivered at his touch. They had gone without sex for days now and both of them were equally sexual frustrated. Jethro placed soft kisses on her shoulder, moved up to the back of her neck and behind her ear. He knew she couldn't resist him whenever he did that, she would always give in. Jethro felt her tension. He stroked her hair, his hands wandered up to the side of her breasts, finally reaching her hands; he tangled his fingers in the both of them. Jenny turned around, looked him deep in his blue eyes before brushing her lips against his softly. Without hesitation Gibbs let go of her hands, placed both of them on each side of her cheeks, and backed her up against the wall with the water ran down their already wet bodies and pushed his lips to hers forcefully. Jenny was surprised at the strength she felt on his kiss. It was like they've never been kiss before, like the first time in Marseille. Jenny quickly gave in to his strong and passionated kisses. He lifted her up against the wall. With his one hand he snugged it behind her back, holding her and preventing her from falling down. With his other hand he grabbed her left leg and wrapped it around his waist, Jen followed him with her other leg. She lifted her head back a little for him to have access to her neck better. He trailed his kisses from her lips and lowered it down to her neck, kissed it all over. Jen moaned out, grapping the back of his hair. Jethro groaned at the pain from his head, but he didn't care, he was occupied with something else. It didn't take Jethro long before thrusting hard in her. Jenny let out a groan, she wasn't prepared for that. He lifted her up and down slowly.
"Jethro….pace yourself" She said out of breath.
Jethro smiled against her neck knowing that he usually never had any problem with pacing himself, it was usually her problem and somehow tonight they decided to switch roles.
A couple of minutes passed on and Jethro turned off the shower, he pulled the shower curtain away and gestured for Jenny to get out before him. She grabbed a white towel and rolled her hair into it and put it up. Jethro smirked at her naked back.
"Stop smirking" She said without even looking at him.
"Hard not to" He said, smirking again.
Jenny put on her robe on and left the bathroom with Jethro right behind her. She sat down on the edge of her big bed and tried to dry off her wet hair. Jethro came towards her with only a towel around his waist grinning at her. She looked up and frowned her brows at him knowing full well what went on in his dirty mind. Jethro climbed up the bed and sat down behind her, taking her hands of the towel and did her job for her. Jenny relaxed against his chest.
Without knowing he was done with her hair, he wrapped his arms around her shoulder and she laid back on his chest and let out a heavy breathing.
"Feeling any better?" He asked her and he felt her nodded against his chest. "You're hungry yet?" Jethro knew that she haven't had any proper meals during the day because he practically interrogate her poor assistant for that information.
"Mm not hungry…" She mumbled against his chest, gripping on his thighs.
Jethro smiled lightly. "Yes you are, I can feel your lite stomach against me" She let a small laugh. He smiled once again. It was always a good feeling to hear her laugh.
Jethro took her by the arm and helped her on her feet; let her out of the bedroom and into the kitchen. "I care more about your health Jen" He whispered into her hair and placed a soft kiss on her head. She smiled lightly at the feeling.
Jenny sat on the chair watching him cook on the counter. She rested her head on her palm and smiled at the sight in front of her. She motioned towards him and stood beside him, their shoulder against each other. He glanced at her and smiled, placed a soft kiss on her cheek.
"Mmm sandwich, looks good" She complimented him and he just shrugged his shoulders. When he was done he handed her one big sandwich and by the look on her face she wasn't sure if she was going to be able to eat even half the sandwich. And apparently he made one for him as well but his was smaller than hers.
"Why is mine bigger than yours"
"Because you need the energy" He smirked and she knew what he meant. He was going to keep her up all night.
"And you don't?" She shot back. He just laughed.
Jethro sat down on the chair eating his sandwich amused. Jenny moved towards him and sat on his lap with her dinner in her mouth. Jethro placed his free hand behind her back, wrapping it around her tightly, never wanting to let her go anywhere.
"How's your dinner?" He asked her playfully behind her ear.
She turned her head, smiled at him and kissed him passionately on his mouth, her tongue pushed down his throat. That wasn't the only thing she pushed in his mouth. She shared a half chewed sandwich and let him taste it. Jenny broke away from the kiss and caught some air. She saw him chewing the food she just gave and smirked.
"How's my dinner?" She smirked again, mimicked his earlier question.
"Tasted good" He smiled and rubbed her cheek with his free hand.
"Compliments to the chef" She purred and gave him another kiss, this time it was a quick one and then retrieved to her sandwich.
They sat there until the both of them had finished their food. There was still a lot to talk about, a lot to be discussed. But sometimes they just have to let it go and remembered that they had each other. They both were stubborn and they knew that. Ducky's conversation with Jethro was running through his mind. He knew that Ducky was right. They are going to have to work together as a team, partners, if they were going to be able to pass the problems along the way, and there were a lot of them.
"What are you thinking about?" She asked him when she realized he was miles away.
They were in bed together with Jethro's arm around her shoulder. Jenny's head resting on his chest playing with his chest hair. She was wearing her lavender silky night gown that he liked so much.
He looked down at her, rubbing her neck. "Let's go away together this weekend" It wasn't a question from him.
She looked. "You mean like eloping somewhere with you?" She said playfully.
"You could say that, yea" He smiled back at her, kissed her head lightly.
"Where?" She asked
"I'll surprise you"
"What about work?"
"I think they can handle everything without us for one weekend" She didn't say anything, just smiled at him and he rolled over, his body covered hers tightly.
He placed kisses all over her face making her moan out. "Is that a yes?" He asked her without stopping what he was doing.
"Yes" Jen moaned out.
"Good" When he finally got a good answer out of her he laid back on his side of the bed and smiled, satisfied about himself.
Jenny opened her mouth. "You cheated!" She slapped him across his chest, making him groan in pain.
"It worked didn't it?" He kept smiling all the time and it annoyed the hell out of her. She always felt weak whenever he did that to her. "That settled then, I'll make the arrangements"
Jenny snuggled up to him; he lifted his arm and rested it around her shoulders once again. He reached to turn of the light and wrapped his other arm around her waist, making his body covers hers. He pulled the sheet over them and kissed her temple.
"Night Jen" And as a response, she hugged him around his neck in the dark.
