Interlude: Wife and Mother
Expression as powerful a tool as it had been needed knowledge. She could bypass wards if she knew their configuration or if she made a tether on those that would go beyond them. Which was why he was watching as the most likely chance she had at life worked. This was only an experiment, but already she had so much hope that it would work. She stayed still and watched, and when there first sign of a mistake was evident, her heart wrenched. But then there was an explosion and she found that she was no longer on the Other Side.
"No," she muttered. "No, no, no." She began a spell and the image of her husband became clear in her mind. She started walking towards the forest, muttering under her breath.
Why had she left him behind? Why? Why? Why? She passed into the foliage, the trees parting as she walked, following a line only she could see that would lead her to him.
If she hadn't left him to watch over his father, then he too would be alive right now. But Atticus had needed to be watched. Harry Potter was suspicious of him and Caitlin knew that the man would stop him if he found out what Atticus had done in order to bring her and their child back to life. This was the reason she had been watching the wizard, why she had wrenched the Bennett witch from her side and made sure the wizard would not think of her for a long time.
Somehow she found the road and still walked. Caitlin felt tired but she wanted to be with Atticus. She wanted to hold him for a while before they made plans of bringing back their son. Light came from behind. A pick-up and it showed no sign of stopping. She flicked a hand and the car came to a stop, another flick and the door opened, the man inside pulled out and tossed aside. She climbed in and drove off, following the line to Atticus.
