The constant poking at the tips of my fingers startled me, I was blinded by the bright lights that shone directly above me. I squinted my eyes and pulled my hand away instinctively from the nurse, she too squinted her eyes, fixated on my vein that was supplying the blood to keep me alive.

The two nurses along with the doctor and a tall boy who was doing his work placement were gathered around me tangled between the chords that were monitoring my every move. As I pulled my hand back the small metal needle was extracted from my arm causing a river of blood to flow down my arm. I was brought back to the time my father and I were waiting to bored a train to Berlin and my arm got caught on a sharp piece, poking off the slim wooden pole.

"Grab some gauze for heavens sake! Don't just stand there Caleb"

The blood was dripping onto the cold cement floor by the time one of the nurses had realised the needle was no longer in my arm.

Hours later

"Well you do know how to keep us on our toes Callie"

"Making sure your getting enough exercise around here. Caleb? Right"

"Yep! Now do you mind?"

"Not like I'm going to say no"

Caleb gently placed the stethoscope onto my chest. I remembered the time my father placed his stiff leather hands onto my neck, leaving bruise marks the size of a small countries. The stethoscope was cold leaving my skin with goose bumps.

"Looks like you didn't drink enough water today, you should be discharged tonight"
