EPOV

I was sitting at a table all by myself. Each member of my family had disappeared in to the crowed to talk or dance with someone they knew and spotted in the crowed. I did not feel like dancing with anyone male or female, especially the females hanging around the area of my table. I was starting to feel like a monkey at the local zoo because they would hold their breath if I moved a finger a little bit. At least that is what they made it feel like.

"Edward you know it's not nice to play with them like that." My cousin said.

"Good to see you Alice." I replied. "Has James shown his face yet?"

"No I have not but I did run into his latest fling and she is looking a little firm around the middle if you know what I mean."

"Not really no." I told her.

"She's got a bun in the oven." Alice replied in a whisper.

"Not my problem." I replied. "Now if you don't mind I am going to get myself a drink. Have a good nigh Alice."

I made my way across the room to the open bar. The girls... women... whatever you wanted to call them, pushed out their chest and fluttered their lashes in lame attempts to get me to look their way a little bit longer. The problem for them was that no matter how hard they tried I wouldn't look their way because I wasn't interested in girls that cared more about the color of their dress than they do the homeless people on the streets. I let out a breath I seemed to have been holding in when I got to the bar.

"Rough night?"

"More than you could think." I replied.

"Would you like a drink?"

"I'll take the cheapest whiskey you have on the rocks." I replied.

"The event is an open bar the alcohol has been purchased already."

"My choice of drink is still the same."

The bartender turned around his to grab the bottle I had requested. It had to be the cheapest they had but I couldn't read the label. He quickly fixed my drink and set it down in front of me with a 'sir' and went off to help another patron. I picked up my drink and turned to face the dance floor. I was just happy to not have the attention on me for once. Well a few people were looking at me but the rest were either dancing or watching other people.

The girl that had most people's attention was on the young woman walking down the stairs at a slow pace. She would stop every few seconds to look at her feet and then look up and keep on going until she finally reached the bottom. She paused there at the base of the stairs to look around the room before she started to move.

I lost sight of her in the crowed and before I knew I looked up and spotted her standing at the end of the bar waiting calmly for the bartender to take her drink order. I watched her through the corner of my eye but after a while I got bored with just standing there. I turned and set my drink down on the bar top and walked over to the mysterious beauty (man I feel cheesy thinking that).

"Excuse me but I was wondering if you would like to dance with me?" I asked her.

"That would not be a good idea." She replied.

"Why do you say that?"

"I am most assured that I would likely step on your toes so much that they would not survive." She replied. "I'd be doing your feet a favor."

"Oh I think it would be worth it." I said. "My dad's a doctor so he can fix them no problem."

"Don't say that I didn't warn you." She said taking my hand.

I led her out to the dance floor. We stayed along the edge of it as several other couples were taking up the middle of the floor. She was tense through the whole dance but relaxed toward the end.
