Just another reminder that I started this story over and that you should go read the new first chapter. Thank you.
There were sirens. A pounding headache. But then it was gone. Quiet. Empty. My eyes felt like they had been glued shut and I haven't moved in years. I tried to move my arms, but they felt like there were weights holding them down. I forced my eyes open, but the blinding light that greeted them made me regret that decision. Opening and closing my eyes several times it took me while to get adjusted to the light. When I did I was surrounded by a white hospital room. The only thing in the room besides the bed I was lying on being a barred window and a chair against the opposite wall. I looked down at myself. The 'weights' on my arms were actually restraints holding me to the bed and I was now dressed in an off blue hospital gown. I wiggled my arms trying to loosen the restraints, but they wouldn't budge.
"HEY!" I called out in the empty room wriggling my arms some more. Hoping that maybe someone was outside the door. "HEY! WHAT'S GOING ON!" The door opened with a nurse peaking her head inside. "Excuse me, what's going on? Where am I?" I asked her.
The nurse took a small step inside. "You're at Gotham General Hospital." She replied.
"The hospital? Why? What happened? Am I sick?" I asked confused. I tried to think back as to why I would be in a hospital, but nothing came to mind. The last thing I remember was going to eat lunch with Yuri.
"You're not exactly sick...there was...an attack...at a diner two days ago. You were there eating lunch with your friend." The nurse said hesitantly.
That's when I remembered the men coming into the restaurant and the guns they had with them. "The men...they shot me...am..am I ok? Was I seriously hurt?" I asked.
"You weren't hurt at all." The nurse replied.
I looked at her confused. "But if I wasn't hurt...why am I at a hospital? Why have I been out of it for two days? And why am I tied to a bed?" I asked.
"When the police arrived at the scene everyone was dead...except you." The nurse explained taking a step back.
"What...? What are you talking about? Everyone...YURI!" I cried sitting up as far as I could the nurse jumped back scared. "Where's Yuri?!" I yelled.
The nurse backed up against the door. She was visibly afraid, but I didn't know or understand why. "You were the only one who survived." She whispered.
"But...what happened!? I can't remember it!" I cried out.
"I'm sorry...I really shouldn't be the one telling you this." The nurse said fearfully.
"Why am I here! Why am I strapped to the bed! TELL ME" I yelled out. Nothing was making sense. If I was fine what was I doing in a hospital? How could I have been the only one who survived?
The nurse pressed herself against the door holding the clipboard tightly to her chest before quickly opening the door and running out, slamming it behind her.
"HEY!" I called after her wriggling in my restraints trying to get up. "WHATS GOING ON! SOMEONE TELL ME! HEEEEEY!"
The door opened again, but this time it was the District Attorney accompanied by two police officers. "If you could please calm down Miss." The DA said.
"What's going on! Why am I here if I'm ok? What happened at the diner?" I asked him as he took a seat in the chair while the two officers took a place on either side of the door.
"That's what I was hoping you could tell me." The DA said calmly.
"What do you mean." I asked. "And why am I tied to the bed?"
"Just a precaution." He replied. "Now what can you tell me about what happened. at the diner."
"I don't know what happened at the diner." I told him. "and what do you mean it's a precaution.
"just start from the beginning." He replied ignoring my question and crossing his leg over the other like he expected to be here awhile.
"My friend and I were going to eat lunch. We were talking about school when I noticed three guys walk in. One of them went to the cash register. The rest spread themselves out amongst the room. They pulled out guns and told everyone to be quiet or they would shoot someone. My friend whispered to me and one of the guys came over. He thought that I was the one that spoke and then he pointed his gun at me and fired. That's the last thing I remember." I said telling him everything I could remember about what had happened at the diner.
"That's all you can remember?" He asked me looking at me curiously like he didn't believe me.
"That's all." I said nodding my head. "Now...can you untie me?"
"I'm afraid I can't." The DA replied shaking his head and clasping his hands together.
"Why not?" I asked him.
"Well you claim that you can't remember what happened..."
"What do you mean 'I claim' to not remember?"
"...and since you were the only person to walk out of that diner alive..."
"I didn't walk out of that diner. Some nurse told me I've been unconscious for two days, I couldn't exactly walk out now could I?"
"...for unknown reasons. You were not physically harmed despite you claiming to be shot..."
"Maybe it was mental trauma that blocked everything out...and there you go again with that 'claiming to be'. I WAS I remember it very vividly."
"...we have to come to the conclusion that you most had some part in what happened."
"...ARE YOU TRYING TO ACCUSE ME OF KILLING A RESTAURANT FULL OF PEOPLE AND MY BEST FRIEND!" I cried out in outrage trying to sit up. I saw the two police men reach their hands toward their guns resting on their hips
Before anything could happen however a knock came at the door and a nurse entered timidly. "Sir, there's some one here to see you"
"I'm in the middle of something." the DA said annoyed.
"...he says its important sir." She insisted.
The DA sighed before standing up. "Fine, I'll be right back." He told me.
"Like I'm going anywhere..." I muttered.
The DA left, but the two police men remained. I glared at each of them in turn, but they didn't move. Both of them obviously were keeping a hand on their guns showing me that they didn't trust me. Not that I could do anything since I was tied to a bed. A few minutes passed when I suddenly heard yelling from out in the hall like someone was arguing. It passed quickly, but then the DA barged back in the room looking very angry with his face red and his hair out of place.
"You have a visitor." He said before moving out of the way.
Then the last person I ever expected to see walked in. Batman.
