Chapter Twenty – Battling Mogar

Dr Gavin Free / Vav

Written by Jerem6401

"CONTROL MYSELF?! I'm a MONSTER! Monsters don't control themselves! That's the whole IDEA!" ― Jeff Smith, Bone, Vol. 5: Rock Jaw, Master of the Eastern Border

"The scene gets worse every second," the reporter stated calmly, his face grim. X-Ray, Vav, Burns, and Heyman were watching a small screen within J-Roll's police cruiser. A massive monster rampage through the streets, destroying anything that was foolish enough to get in his way. "There's no telling how many have been injured in this beast's destructive wake. Police are desperately trying to evacuate the area and find a way to stop this thing the public have dubbed 'Mogar'."

"Look out!" Burns shouted from the passenger seat. He grabbed the wheel and tore it to the right, spinning the car out just as another vehicle slammed into the road before them and erupted into flames. The four got out of the car and looked into the street. A massive figure stood in the centre of a horrific scene. The entire area was drowned in fire, cutting through the dark night around them. The ground was covered in broken glass and destroyed pieces of Achievement City.

The creature slammed his fists into the ground, shouting, before taking hold of another parked car and throwing it like a rock into a building. It crashed through the brick, accompanied by shrieks and fleeing civilians.

"What's the plan?" Vav asked, the tremor in his voice betraying his sudden uncertainty in the face of this foe.

"Clear as day," X-Ray replied, cool and unruffled, starkly contrasting against his British friend. "We stop Mogar."

"Stop it?! What are you on about? Look at that thing!"

"You don't need to stop it," Burns added. "Just distract it long enough to evacuate this area. We can take him down, but not when there's this many civilians around." The duo looked towards Heyman.

"What are you implying?" X-Ray asked. J-Roll was silent.

"There's no reason this has to end with killing Mogar!" Vav yelled. "At least not until we've had a go at him." Heyman looked at the destruction around him, sighing as he did. Burns pushed forward, him out of the way.

"You have twenty minutes, you two," he reasoned. "Take him out… or we will." The two nodded and turned towards the destruction. Together, they jumped through the first wall of fire towards the beast. As soon as they landed, Mogar seemed aware of their presence. He sniffed the air around him and then whipped to the side, staring at X-Ray and Vav. He roared and balled his hands into fists.

"Get OUT of my way!" he growled. "I need to see… I need to go see… explain to…" Mogar was shaking his head around, trying to remember his mission.

"You need to see what you're doing!" X-Ray yelled. "You could hurt a lot of people, Mogar! If you don't stand down, Vav and I will be forced to…" X-Ray looked at Vav, who was staring blankly at Mogar. "Vav and I…" Vav was still staring. "Vav?" He wasn't paying a single bit of attention to X-Ray. Mogar's face. It was deformed, filled with sharp teeth, hair starting to form in all areas… but it was still familiar. Vav shook his head, still staring at the monster.

"Michael?" he asked. Mogar stepped even closer to the heroes.

"BACK OFF!" it roared. "I'll obliterate… everything… everything in my fucking WAY!" Mogar started to walk forward, slamming his fists into the ground as he went.

"Michael, stop!" Vav yelled. "You're going to hurt someone! You wouldn't do that!"

"Not Michael!" he yelled back. "MOGAR BITCHES!"

Mogar charged at the duo, his hands stretched out to tear them apart. X-Ray reached up to his glasses, pressing a small button and emitting a blinding flash from the lenses. Mogar covered his eyes and swung where he assumed the heroes were still standing. X-Ray and Vav managed to dodge the attack, just to have Mogar's massive fist swing down and smash the vehicle behind them. He gripped the metal carcass and ripped it to the side, flinging it like a stone towards the heroes. Vav ran towards the car, jumping up and using the falling object like a ramp. He sprinted up the projectile and leapt towards Mogar. Vav grabbed two balls of fur on Mogar's shoulders and stared into his eyes.

"Enough!" Vav yelled. "If you don't come with us, the police are going to…" Mogar grabbed Vav's foot and ripped him off. He slammed Vav into the pavement, cracking it in all directions. He clasped his hands together and hoisted them into it the air, preparing to crush Vav like a pancake.

"Get out of there!" X-Ray yelled, firing beams from his glasses. Mogar shielded his face from the attacks, grunted while he did. Vav rolled away from the distracted Mogar, trying to come up with a new strategy. Mogar threw his arms apart and roared loudly, knocking the duo to their knees and bending the fire around them with its shockwave. Mogar turned and ran from the scene, tearing his way down the street.

"We have to stop him!" Vav shouted. He leapt from the ground, grabbing X-Ray wrist as he went.

"Got any ideas?" X-Ray asked.

"Ideas have never been my strongpoint," Vav replied. He stopped in the road and looked at one of the streets signs. "Bollocks! He's heading towards town hall!"

"And we have ten minutes before Burns and the police go ballistic on him," X-Ray added.

"HELP!" a voice shouted. The two looked towards city hall to see Mogar with a minivan in his clutches. He was holding it in the air, with a terrified family within.

"Shut the fuck up!" he yelled at them as he shook their vehicle. "What, am I ugly?! You're not so good looking yourself, bitch!"

"Yeah… that's Michael," Vav noted.

"Move over boys!" Burns yelled as he walked up to the two. "We're taking this thing down. Down to China-Town. Which, I believe, is somewhere near China. Then they can deal with him." Several cop cars skidded to a stop behind him, filled with armed units, ready to attack.

"No!" X-Ray yelled. "We still have time! We can still…"

"RAAAHGAH!" The two turned back to Mogar who had put down the minivan. Again he was shielded himself, but this time from a hailstorm of lasers. X-Ray and Vav watched in amazement as ten small robots crawled over the surrounding houses and fired on the monster. They were spider-like in their design, but with only four legs, each ending with some weird wheel-plunger combination, allow them to scamper around and to adhere to surfaces.

Mogar swung at them, trying to take some more of them out, but they were quick in evading his attacks, dancing around him. Suddenly his fist collided with something and stopped. Mogar looked down to see Iron-Ryan holding the monster's hand in place.

"Nice to meet you too," he stated. Mogar growled and threw his other fist forward, which Ryan caught as well. The two pushed against one another, neither giving an inch. The pavement below them began to crack under the pressure. As the struggle continued, X-Ray and Vav could see Mogar getting angrier. Veins were jumping from his skin, while Ryan's robotic enhancements began to smoke, buckling from the tremendous pressure they were being put under..

"Iron-Ryan is strong," Vav noted, with a half-whistle to himself in obvious admiration.

"But not strong enough!" X-Ray added. Mogar pushed forward with all his strength and knocked the hero off his feet. He grabbed Ryan's foot and ripped him around, throwing him towards the police. Ryan skidded off the ground and came to a stop at Vavs feet.

"Woo… thought I was late," Iron-Ryan stated.

"Ryan!" Vav yelled. "You did it! Look at these golems!"

"Good, now they can aid our men in taking this thing down," Burns added.

"What?!" Vav turned back to the officer. "You're still going to attack?! That's bang out of order! We can handle this!"

"ENOUGH!" Mogar shouted. He turned to the picket fence next to him and grabbed one of the posts. He ripped it out of the ground and swung it over his head like a mighty wooden sword. Two of Ryan's drones soon learned what Mogar was made of, when the beast swung his sword and smashed them into bits. He grabbed another and pitched it across the street, making it smash through a window in the town hall.

"Last chance, gentleman," Burns added. "What's it going to be?" Vav thought for a moment and then turned to Ryan.

"Can you get the remaining drones to all fire at once?" he asked. Ryan's cyborg eye flashed as he took manual control of his bots. He nodded and Vav turned to X-Ray. "Got heat vision on those things?" X-Ray smiled and switched to it. Vav knelt down and picked one of the broken robots off of the ground. He held it in the air and let the oil drip down and coat his glove.

"What is blazes…" Burns began.

"Hey Mogar!" Vav yelled. Mogar turned to look at him. "You nothing but a little smegging little bitch-pop!" Mogar growled and squared off with the hero.

"WHAT!?"

"You're not tough! You keep running away from us!" Mogar clenched his sword and stepped forward. "They should call you Rungar!" Mogar roared and took off towards Vav.

"COME HERE YOU LITTLE-"

"Ryan now!" Vav yelled. The remaining drones let out a high-pitched whine before unleashing a collective blast into the chest of Mogar. The monster took the full brunt of the attack and fell to his knees, skidding towards the heroes. Vav ran forward and jumped into the air, loading up a punch. "X-Ray… do it!"

X-Ray fired a heatbeam into Vav's fist, setting it on fire. Vav unleashed his punch into the side of Mogar's face, knocking a tooth from his mouth and slamming the beast into the pavement. The force of the attack put out the flames on Vav's hand and the wooden sword went sailing from Mogar's grip, rolling down the street away from them. Mogar fell flat onto his back, unconscious. A crowd started to form in front of city hall, gazing at the behemoth in front of them.

"Well… I'll be damned," Burned stated. He held his hand in the air, telling the soldiers behind him to stand down. As they lowered their weapons, they all erupted into sweat as Mogar gripped the pavement and began pushing himself up.

"You think…" he started, "you think you can stop me?! You can't stop Mogar! Nothing can stop…" He stopped and turned to the crowd. His glowing red eyes seemed to fade a bit as he looked out over the people. He stepped towards, not menacingly… but almost in a longing way, confused and suddenly remorseful. He shook his head and looked at his hands.

"What is he doing?" Vav asked.

"No time to figure it out," Iron-Ryan stated as he lifted his arm.

"You," Mogar started, "you… no… I'm not… Mogar isn't…" Ryan fired a dart from his wrist, which embedded itself in Mogar's neck. He cringed and growled, pulling it out, but seeing it was now just an empty syringe. Mogar went to roar, but instead found himself unable to remain standing, his knees beginning to buckle beneath him. He tried to take another step towards the heroes, but couldn't place it anymore. He gave one last look into the crowd before collapsing onto the street with a definite thud. X-Ray and Vav sighed and moved towards the beast. Reality hit Vav like a ton of bricks when Mogar's mass started to shrink away, and left nothing more than Michael laying in a puddle… with the entire world watching.

"This…is going to be a problem, guys," he murmured, and as sirens began to wail in the distance, becoming louder and louder with each passing second.
