Lee lay awake in bed, though he couldn't sleep and he wasn't sure why. He watched Lucy, and slipped into a daydream of how life was going to be like once they were back at home. He was so focused on his thoughts that he hadn't noticed the faint sound of music that had begun to play. Eventually, it was Lucy stirring in his arms that brought him back to earth.

"Lee what's that?" she said in a panic as she turned in his arms to face him.

Lee hadn't really taken in the fact that the creepy music they'd heard the night before was playing again. "Nothing," he whispered as held her closer and moved in to kiss her neck.

"No Lee," she said as she pushed him away, "it's that music again."

Lee looked at her for a moment while he registered the familiar spooky music. He sighed, "Lucy, I told you, it's nothing to be scared about. It'll just be some old music box or something. Go back to sleep." He tried to run his hand through her hair, but she protested.

"So how come we never hear it during the day?"

Lee sighed again, "I don't know Lucy, but nothing bad has happened so can we please just forget about it?"

"Nothing bad has happened yet Lee! I can't stay here, I don't feel safe." Lucy got out of bed.

"What are you doing?"

"I have to leave, I can't stay in this house with these creepy noises."

Lee got out of bed too, "you can't just leave in the middle of the night. It's safer just to stay here. Not that it isn't safe downstairs, in which case you might as well just forget about this."

"No Lee, I'm leaving now."

Lee reached for her arm to pull her back. "What can I do to make you stay till the morning?" He asked, as he played with her hands in his.

Lucy looked at him for a while before replying slowly, "I don't know."

Lee sighed, "Lucy you can be so ridiculous sometimes. Just come back to bed, otherwise you'll be out in the dark by yourself and you won't like that." Lucy looked away. "Can't you see you're being sill?" Lee whispered, sure he'd won her over.

"Fine," Lucy said, "but we're leaving first thing in the morning."

"Of course," Lee replied with a smile. Then he bent down and picked her up.

"Lee!" Lucy giggled, as he carried her back to bed.

He lay her down on her back and climbed into bed himself, holding her protectively. Lucy closed her eyes and Lee kissed her cheek, "love you," he whispered before settling down himself.

"Love you too," Lucy smiled, her eyes still closed.

Before either of them had the chance to fall back to sleep the music started playing again, only this time it sounded much closer, as though it was now coming from upstairs.

Lucy gasped, "Lee it's getting closer! What are we going to do?"

Lee felt scared now too, "I…I don't know," he whispered, panicking. The music was getting closer and closer.

"I told you we should have left! There's a ghost in this house and it's coming to get us!" Lucy cried, trying to be as quiet as possible. She was frozen with fear and she could feel Lee tightening his grip around her. Lee didn't say anything, he didn't know what to say. In the back of his head he knew there must be a logical explanation, but everything seemed so real at this moment. Whatever was outside was coming towards their bedroom door and it was creeping the hell out of both of them.

They both remained still as they held onto each other which staring at the door. The music got nearer and nearer, until eventually they hear the door handle slowly turning. Lucy pulled the duvet over herself and buried her head in Lee's chest, while Lee remained frozen, watching the door and wishing this was over. He saw the door open to reveal a shadowed figure. The music had stopped and whatever it was stayed still. Lee's heart was beating like mad, and after a while he decided to reach to switch on the bedside light. When Lucy felt him moving she removed the duvet from over her head. As they both looked back towards the figure they got the shock of their lives, and he couldn't quite believe what he was seeing. "Dad!" He said in disbelief, "what the hell are you doing here?"

"Hello son, Merry Christmas" his Dad replied. They all stayed still for a moment, looking at each other.

Lee sat up, and so did Lucy. "Dad, what are you doing here? Was it you who has been playing that creepy music all this time? How did you even get in?"

"Slow down with all the questions son. I want to know what's going on here…you and Lucy…sharing a bed," he said smirking.

"Does that really matter now Dad? Just tell us what on earth 's going on!" Lee was unbelievable confused and irritated by his father's behaviour, while Lucy was also very confused.

After a moment Frank sighed, "fine, I'll explain," he began. "I always come up here for a quick visit, just at Christmas. To remind myself of old times, you know? But when I came you lot were all here weren't you, and I suppose I just felt a bit left out. So when I heard you talking about all the ghost rubbish I thought I'd try to…scare you all off. I'm sorry son, I guess I was feeling lonely. But hey, you're definitely in there now son," he added, nodding his head towards Lucy and winking.

"Shut up Dad! What do you think you're playing at, creeping around trying to scare us all. We all thought we were going mad! Have you been staying in this house all Christmas?" Lee inquired, he couldn't understand his Dad at all sometimes.

"No son, I've been staying at a B and B not far from here. I got a good deal with the landlady if you know what I mean," he said with a wink. Lee rolled his eyes as Frank carried on. "I only snuck up here at night because I knew I'd be able to get in without anyone seeing, and the creepy music seemed to scare you more in the night anyway."

"I can't believe you sometimes Dad!" Lee said thoroughly annoyed, as he flopped back to rest against the headboard of the bed.

After not having said anything Lucy piped up, "I understand how you would feel left out Frank, and we're really sorry for that." Lee gave her a look as if you say 'are we?' "But this way of dealing with it is ridiculous, you've really scarred us."

"I'm sorry Lucy, but Lee needed to be taught a lesson. You know, he's never once done anything special for me at Christmas. This is supposed to be a time for families and caring," Frank said.

"Yeah well that sort of stuff works both ways Dad," Lee said bitterly, folding his arms.

"That is does son," Frank said as he walked forwards to sit on the end of the bed. "And I've been thinking, maybe it's time you and me started being more like a family. You know, having a proper father and son relationship."

"Oh yeah, and when did you decide that, before or after you thought you'd pretend to be a ghost?" Lee was getting angry now. Lucy moved her hand to hold his under the duvet in a way to try to calm him down.

"I can see why you're angry, and maybe I was stupid, but like I said I was just feeling left out," Frank said.

Lee sighed, "you can be so childish it feels like I'm your dad."

"I was wondering," Frank began, "that now I'm here…you might let me stay till the morning? Go on, I'll make it up to you."

"Yeah? And where have I heard that before?" Lee said gloomily, "but alright, stay till tomorrow, we're all leaving then anyway."

"Thanks son," Frank smiled, before continuing, "so, are you going to tell me what's going on here? You two sharing a bed?"

Lee sighed again, "you might as well know Dad, me and Lucy are together now, it hasn't been for long though."

Frank grinned, "well I'm chuffed for you both! He's fancied you Lucy since the day he met you."

"Alright! Thanks Dad!" Lee interrupted, feeling embarrassed, as Lucy looked down and smiled to herself.

"So, how'd you parents take it Lucy?" Frank asked.

Lucy looked at Lee awkwardly, "erm…we haven't actually…told anyone else yet. We wanted to wait till after the holiday."

"Yeah, so keep it zipped alright Dad?" Lee said, still rather irritated.

"Fine with me, but I am short on cash now, these B and B's can cost you and-"

"I'm not giving you any more money Dad!" Lee interrupted sternly.

"I wasn't going to ask that son," Frank said. "But could you give me a lift back tomorrow, I can't afford the bus?"

Lee didn't even look at him, he just pointed at Lucy and said, "she's the driver."

Frank turned to Lucy. "Of course I will Frank."

"Thanks Lucy," he said happily as he got up to leave. "She a good one you've got there Lee, night, see you in the morning." And with that he shut the door and went to make himself comfy on the sofa.

Once he was gone Lee sighed loudly and ran his hands through his hair with frustration, "uurrrgh!"

Lucy giggled slightly as she leaned into Lee, giving him a kiss on the cheek. "I know he's an idiot but it's kind of funny. And at least it wasn't a ghost. I suppose we were silly to think that."

Lee turned to face her and placed his hands on Lucy's waist. "I'm too tired to think about him, let just go to sleep," he said, as he kissed Lucy's forehead and they both lay back down in each other's arms, before falling back to sleep.
