Chapter Fifteen
"…Home…"
Diane hadn't been admitted but if she were honest with herself, it might have been a good idea. So completely unlike her, she jumped at every loud noise. She understood that it would take a while, being viciously attacked would do that to someone but she didn't like feeling like this, she didn't like having her control taken away.
"Diane, you don't have to…"
"Yes, I do. Mac, I…I keep a strict control of my work life, because I don't like feeling out of control. Even my personal life is…"
"Shhh, all I was going to say was you don't have to have all the answers or facts right now. You need to know I will do everything in my power to make sure Ric doesn't see the light of day again."
"I appreciate that, more than I can say." Unable to stay so vulnerable, she changed the subject. "How much longer until we can get out of here, do you think? Do you think they'll give me some good drugs because I hurt everywhere?"
"It shouldn't be too much longer, as for the drugs, I don't know, maybe, if not, I can always pour you a nice hot bath and scrub your back and massage your tense muscles."
"Are you trying to get me naked and wet?"
'In what context?" Mac asked, not bothering to elaborate.
"I think we both know the context, don't we. I have to say, this is happening so fast, I've never…"
"Me either, but if something is right, why should we fight it?"
"Right huh? And how do you know this is right, we haven't even had a date yet?"
"Well, this could be classified as the obligatory bad first date that most couples have to wade through. Honestly though, I don't know why I believe this is right, I just…feel it."
"You keep talking like that and acting like this and I may just have to rush you to a JP!" Diane said, her eyes finding their sparkle again.
"You know, a couple years ago, hell, even a couple months ago, that statement would have scared the pants right off me…don't you look at me like that…but it would have, but…I've realized that when the universe is giving you something as precious as you, and waving a bright red flag and saying 'don't fuck up' or 'don't let go', a guy should listen. This could move as fast or as slow as you like, but I feel you deep in my bones, maybe even deeper, already."
"Wow!" Diane managed to mumble.
"I second that wow. Feel up to taking a crazy journey with me?"
Her eyebrows scrunched up at first but then realized he meant the journey of their dating, not an actual hit the road journey. "To be honest and I have to admit, this fact scares me more than anything heretofore, I want that, SO much!"
Their smiles were identical, hope, joy and a hint of the fire that would burn brightly between them.

Alan had been waiting for forty minutes already and still the detective he spoke to hadn't even made a move to bring Jason up. He thought briefly of calling Diane, but knew she was probably in the hospital still and didn't want to disturb her, she'd had enough of that already.
"Are you going to bring my son up or not? If I have to, I can call Miss Miller and discuss with her all the ways you have gone wrong here, so will you be getting Jason now or do I need to disturb Diane?"
A female officer stepped closer, "Don't bother Miss Miller, I'll bring your son up."
When he didn't bother answering her, only offering a slight tip of his head, the woman moved away. He supposed she was doing as she said she would.
"Hi Jason, how are you today?"
"Skip the pleasantries, how is Diane?"
Understanding Jason wasn't being an ass, just worried for his attorney…friend, Alan answered. "I am not her doctor but from what I could see when she was brought in, a few bruises, maybe a fractured cheek bone. She was…she is fortunate that Mac came when he did, because it could have been worse."
"Thank…thanks for checking up on her for me."
"You are welcome, but that isn't the only reason I came. I talked to Elizabeth."
"You did? What did she have to say, how is she, is she coming home, how's Cameron, is the baby doing well, do you think she is coming home soon, and what did you tell her, does…"
"Holy Hell Jason, slow down. I haven't seen you this excited since you were a small boy and wanting to go sledding the day after a big snow storm."
"Sorry…I just…she's just…everything." Jason said.
"Trust me son, I can understand that. I'll try to answer your bevy of questions. Yes, I did talk to her. She didn't say much, she sounded good, happy, maybe a little melancholy. She said she'd be coming home soon. I didn't get to ask about Cameron, but I heard him in the background and he sounded happy too. We talked a little about the baby but, we didn't go into how the baby is doing. I think she'll be home in the next few days. I told her about you being booked and Jason, we talked about a few things but the biggest thing we talked about was you both letting other people into your relationship, whether it was friendship or more. I offered to tell her what you said about everything we talked about but she refused, saying she would hear it from you or not at all."
"Yes…we've had issues with other people sticking their rather large noses in our business. I hope that this more verbose Elizabeth sticks around, she seems to say what's on her mind, when it enters."
"And…does that mean the new and improved Jason will be sticking around as well?"
"I sure as hell hope so; I can't imagine my life going back to the way it was. I can't believe what a pompous ass Sonny is, although, I probably shouldn't be that shocked. Did you hear Sonny has at least five children on the way?"
"Are you kidding me? With who?"
"From what I heard him screeching, when they were taking me to my cell, it would seem Carly, Sam, Kate, Olivia and Alexis. But, I think Lulu might need to be added to that list, I keep seeing her arguing with Sonny about something. Also Claire showed up at the coffee shop last month, screaming to the high heavens. I didn't hear much, but, defective condoms were brought up." Jason said with a laugh.
"Is that how…I can't believe I'm asking this…but…"
"Relax, and yes."
"Oh, well, I guess it is a good thing it happened then, don't tell your grandfather though, he'll try to use your blessing as a reason they shouldn't be sued. So, Sonny has potentially 7 kids on the way?"
"Well…"
"You have got to be kidding me, really?"
"I wouldn't rule out Claudia, Brenda, Cindy, Angel, Hannah, Amelia."
"Why wouldn't you rule all of them out, especially Brenda?"
"Trust me when I say, you don't want to know."
"Do any of these women not use birth control?!"
"That is something you'd have to take up with them, but can you just imagine. If they are, and he is the daddy, I almost want him to get out of jail. He has Michael, Morgan, Kristina and Dante already, plus so many that didn't make it…I swear the man is going for a world record or something. Anyway, it doesn't really matter, because it doesn't affect me or Elizabeth."
"How do you plan on keeping her and the children safe, with your profession?"
"Don't worry about it; I am taking care of it. I don't suppose you have your phone on you, do you?"
"I do, but…"
"Yeah, yeah, I know, but I need to hear her voice."
Alan brought up the previous dialed numbers list and connected Jason to Elizabeth's hotel room.
They both held their breaths as they waited for her to answer. "Jason, she could have…" Before he said anything else, Jason's face spilt into the sunniest, happiest smile, Alan had ever seen, as he heard Elizabeth's voice. 'Must have hit the speaker.' He thought to himself.
"Oh God, Baby, it is so good to hear your voice. I don't know how, but I remember everything you said, at the church and at the hospital. You can lay siege to me anytime you like, just know it will be a full frontal assault on my behalf. Fuck! I love you!"
Alan heard her laughter and it warmed something deep inside. The new and improved Jason and Elizabeth will be a handful but what a handful they will be. He couldn't wait to see these two in action.
"You don't know how hard it's been or how badly I needed to hear your voice. You are lucky you caught me, I almost have everything packed, and we're leaving within the hour. I…fuck…I love you too!"
"You, Cam and the baby are alright, right? Should you be flying in your condition?"
"Relax and breathe sweetie, it is safe and we are fine. I miss you more than you can imagine and Cam, I've been telling him about you, he wants to meet you."
"I hate to ask, but if I'm not released by tomorrow, will…baby, please come see me. I need to feel you in my arms; I need my family in my arms."
"We…Oh, God, Jason, we need that, so much."
"What the hell is going on in here?" Barked Officer Andrews.
"Baby, I love you and I will see you tomorrow. Alan says hi. Give my boy a kiss and a hug. Love you." Jason rushed out before the phone was snatched out of his hands.
"I don't know how you got this past my officers Dr. Quartermaine, but I could have you thrown in a cell, right beside your son."
"Listen, no one checked me, I forgot I even had it until Jason asked to use it. He never did get his one phone call, which you all should have seen to, but it is water under the bridge, he's had his call. No harm, no foul."
"You people think the law can't touch you, but this department is going to nail your ass…"
"You conduct is not becoming. Do you really think this precinct can handle another law suit, especially with their very own D.A. being thrown in Jail? Walk away now." Alan said, before he ushered the cop out of the room and shut the door, after pilfering his phone back.
"Well this has been an interesting visit and more than enlightening, thank you by the way for not turning that call into something…more. I'm going to get going and check on Diane if she is still in the hospital and then head home. I have to be up early tomorrow so I can visit your mom."
"Can…I know I haven't been a very good son, but can you tell her I'm happy about her test results and that I…love her."
Touched, Alan was finding it hard not to cry.
"I love you too dad, even if I have been a monumental ass."
"We love you too Jason. Let's get this latest problem behind us so we can all move on."
"I like the sounds of that."
