Thornclaw growled beside Jayfeather as Leafpool walked over to them, Lionblaze by her side. "Move," Lionblaze growled, glaring daggers at the tom. Thornclaw snarled and faced him nose to nose.

"Make me, or better yet, tell you papa. I'm sure he would run from Windclan and protect you at a moment's notice."

Lionblaze's eyes swelled up in anger, but he had to keep his cool. He had to do this for Leafpool. 'But why is she going to Jayfeather? Why doesn't she just give up on him?' No, he shouldn't be thinking that. Leafpool need to get close to him before... 'No,' he internally whimpered. Leafpool was lying, she had to. But the grief and pain in her voice two days ago shook him.

"I'm going to die Lionblaze, and I need your help to get to Jayfeather."

'Why Starclan?' He wailed.

"Jayfeather," Leafpool mewed lowly. The tom ignored her. "Jayfeather, please answer me," she asked again. Again, he didn't answer.

"Jayfeather answer her!" Lionblaze snapped from around Thornclaw.

Jayfeather sneer and looked at her. "What?!"

"I need to talk to you, in private."

"There is no privacy between us Leafpool. Go and visit your mange mate."

"Jayfeather!" Lionblaze snarled, shouldering his way past Thornclaw. Thing was, Thornclaw didn't like being shoved, and so he growled and pounced on Lionblaze. The two were sent to the ground, Lionblaze using his hind legs push the tom off of him. The cats around startled at the commotion and watched as the two rose and faced each other. Bramblestar came out with high authority and anger, and Leafpool used the distraction to push Jayfeather unto his den.

Thankfully it was empty.

"What are you doing", he hissed, blind eyes now raging storms. Leafpool whimpered softly and closed her eyes.

"Why do you do this? Why are you scheming against me? What have I done to you?"

"You know what you did! And I don't buy your innocent act like Lionblaze does, I know your motives!"

"Jayfeather I swear to you that I am not going back to Crowfeather!"

Jayfeather scoffed. "Yea and there are no seasons. Leafpool why can't you just drop the facade? Just tell everyone the truth!"

"I am telling the truth!"

"Liar!"

"Jayfeather..."

"Shut up! Don't you dare try to poison me with your words! I'm sick of your lies! Just leave already!"

Leafpool sat there quietly, pain and sorrow clouding her senses. "Is that what you want? You want me to leave? Leave the clans and never return?"

"Yes! That's exactly what I want!"

"To be exiled?"

"Yes!"

"Forgotten?"

"Yes!"

"To die?"

"Ye-" Jayfeather froze. Did he want her to die?

"I understand," Leafpool mewed quietly, and Jayfeather couldn't believe his ears. "You want me to admit to my crimes yes, then I will. I was planning to run away with Crowfeather. I was planning on betraying my clan. You were right." He stared at her with wide eyes. He was right! She was lying!

"You fox hearted crow," he snarled eagerly.

Leafpool lowered her gaze. "I will leave the clans and never return, but on one condition." Jayfeather frowned as he thought it over. Well, it was only one condition. 'I'm nice enough to grant her one wish after all.'

"What is it?" He growled, backing away when Leafpool moved closer to him. He could feel the eyes burning on him.

"Pretend to be my son for a half moon."

'What?!' He screeched in his mind and in real. Absurd! He would never do such a thing!

"Please Jayfeather! It's my only wish!"

"Why?!" "Because I, I want to enjoy what I messed up on before I leave."

"Had you not did what you did this wouldn't have happened." He sneered. Leafpool whined, and that shocked him. Leafpool never whined before.

"Please Jayfeather, just for a half moon! After that I will leave you forever and you will never see me again!"

And begging, Leafpool never begged, not really. 'So her punishment has hit her hard. I guess it her way of repenting.' Jayfeather huffed and turned away, eyes closed as he thought deeply. Should he do this? Well the obvious answer was no, but something very very small was telling him to do so. "What would I have to do as your "son"?" He felt the air lighten only slightly.

"Like a son would do to his mother, hunting, talking and eating together, we don't have to bond because this is, this is fake," she ended quietly, and he could feel the sorrow emitting from her, and it made him feel guilty, though he pushed that guilt away. She deserved this.

"No," he mewed quietly, and the air instantly became heavy and pitiful. It dropped on him like a tree, and he tried his best not to wince.

"Ok," came another whisper, and great Starclan did she sound crushed! It itched Jayfeather in the wrong way.

"Wait!" He mumbled as she turned around. "I-I'll do it." And it shocked him how fast Leafpool's mood did a one-eighty. "But, only a half moon! That it! Then you will get your sorry tail out of here and never return!" He heard her nodded, and was attacked by her furry body.

"Thank you!" She purred, licking his face. He snapped at her and pushed her away.

"But this isn't starting until tomorrow! It's too early!" Leafpool was still purring as she answered him, then turned and trotted out of the den. Jayfeather sighed and pawed his face. "I'm going to regret this," he muttered.

~ooo~

The next day Jayfeather was sulking. 'It's only pretend,' he reminded himself, and resisted the urge to wail like a child.

"Hey Jayfeather!"

Cinderheart, great.

"Hey," he mewed dejectedly. The grey she cat frowned.

"What's wrong?" She asked. "Going to gather herbs? Need any help?"

"Yea..."

"Can I come?"

"No." Cinderheart groaned. "Why not? Did Berrynose already ask you?"

"No."

"Icecloud?"

"No again."

"Brackenfur?"

"No."

"Then who?!" She hissed in annoyance, stomping her paw. She was tired of his one worded answers.

"Jayfeather!"

Oh no.

Leafpool trotted over to them, a bounce in her step. Cinderheart sneered at her. "What do you want Windclan lover?"

Leafpool ignored her.

"Are you ready?"

"Yea," Jayfeather grumbled, and Cinderheart gasped.

"Her?!" She mewed incredulously.

Jayfeather gave her a look. "Bramblestar's doing," he lied smoothly.

Cinderheart frowned. "I thought you persuaded him."

"He didn't buy it. Plus, because of Lionblaze and Thornclaw he burdened me with her for half a moon."

"How dare he!"

"I got to go. Come one Leafpool." Leafpool beamed and followed him, shooting Cinderheart a glare from behind.

The two cats trekked through the forest in silence. Leafpool's insides were hyper with joy. She did it! She got Jayfeather to pretend with her!

"Listen Leafpool you will die, and most likely in a half moon. Know that we cannot change death once it happens, so use your remaining time wisely."

Leafpool knew that she had to spend her time with Jayfeather, or else she would never get another chance. This was her last chance. "Ok, I need more poppy seeds and coltsfoot. While I get those, why don't you find some moss, chervil and borage?"

"Ok," Leafpool mewed, and both of them departed. Leafpool found the herbs quickly, placing them securely by a tree before running off to find moss. Once done, she set off to find Jayfeather. The tom was pulling up coltsfoot when she found him. "Jayfeather, need any help?" Light blue eyes narrowed before he gave a snort.

"Grab two more stalks of that and let go. With a nod she did as she was told and followed him, along the way picking up her pile she had left. They entered the clan camp and headed to the medicine cats den. Leafpool set the herbs and moss down beside him and backed away slowly, letting him sort through them. Jayfeather tried to take his time so that Leafpool would get bored and run off, but realized with agitation that she was waiting on him. 'I'm already regretting this deal!'

"Leafpool?"

"Yes?"

"What are you waiting on?"

"You of course."

A sigh.

"Why?"

"Well..."

"You know that I can't do half the things that Lionblaze does with you, because I am a medicine cat and I am blind, right?" Quiet. 'Heh, stupid she cat forgot. How motherly of her.' "Well then, are you hungry?" He sat there and thought for a moment. "Yes..." He heard her pad out of the den and snickered. "She'll be more like a serving cat then a mother," he muttered to himself and continued sorting.

~ooo~

"Leafpool, what are you doing?"

"Getting Jayfeather's food."

"Why?"

"Because he's busy."

"Leafpool..."

"Yes mother?"

Sandstorm stared at her daughter. Her daughter likewise stared back. "If you are going to try and strengthen your bond with Jayfeather you are going about it the wrong way."

"What? How?"

"You are fetching his food."

"But he's busy!"

"I know that, and I know what you are thinking and what you will be doing in the future if this keeps going on."

Leafpool picked up a vole and look at her mother. "I know what I'm doing. I'm not going to be following him around paw and tail." She muffled. Sandstorm smiled lightly.

"Good because that wouldn't be very motherly. But I think you shouldn't plan on spending the whole day with him, not today at least, because that is too soon." Leafpool's ears drooped slightly. She was planning to do exactly that.

"Then what should I do?"

"Stay with him bit by bit, each day a little longer than the next. You don't want to smother him. And he has had a mother figure when he was younger, Squirrelflight remember? Don't treat him like a motherless kit."

'He was technically motherless...' Leafpool though wryly. "Ok Sandstorm." She nudged her cheek lightly. "I'll keep those advised in mind."

Sandstorm purred and watched Leafpool walk away, then then grabbed a prey and limped to the elders den. "I could've got that for you Sandstorm!" Cherrytail piped.

Sandstorm sighed. "Just because I'm in the elders den doesn't mean I'm old Cherrytail!"

~ooo~

Leafpool carefully thought over what Sandstorm said as she padded into the medicine den, placing the vole by Jayfeather's side. He absent muttered a thanks, and Leafpool smiled a bit. "Well then Jayfeather, I'll be leaving now. If you need anything yowl for me."

Jayfeather blinked and looked her way. "What?" He though she was going to stay by his side and do what he told her to. He double blinked as he felt her tongue catch his forehead.

"I'll see you tomorrow." She mewed lightly.

She turned and left and it took Jayfeather a while to process what just happened. "She licked me," he said quietly. Then he growled. 'How dare she?!' He bit into his vole angrily, seething. Motherly thing or not, she wants supposed to lick him. "I hate this deal," he growled dryly.
